Shoe! Glorious Shoes! Well, I am most excited about shoes this season, which is why I am posting my shoe capsule wardrobe before my clothing and handbags this holiday season. Can you blame me? Shoes are glorious!

This holiday season, life is more casual and quiet and than in holiday seasons past. This means I am looking more for utility rather than sparkle in my holidays 2020 shoe capsule wardrobe. These block heel booties are perfect to pair with jeans. They are comfortable for walking plus they have a little bit of lift to make me a couple inches taller. They really add polish to an everyday look. Love!

Lug soles are hotter than hot this season, and while I thought I might avoid the trend since I already own a couple pairs of lug soles boots, I couldn’t help myself. After all, I didn’t have a flat pair; only heels. So of course, I felt the need to add a flat pair to my closet! This pair of lug sole boots is super comfortable for walking and standing, plus, they are waterproof! They will be perfect once our rainy season starts. I tried to clean them up as much as possible for these photos, but my apologies, they have been getting quite a bit of wear and are showing it. They are my go-to boots right now!

cozy slippers holiday gift ideas

My grey stamped croc loafers have been in my capsule wardrobe since fall, and they are great for warmer days. If you haven’t jumped on the classic loafer trend yet, I highly recommend snapping up a pair. They come in tons of colors, and never go out of style! Love that!

‘Tis the season for cozy and soft slippers. I cannot get enough of these fabulous slippers. They are super cozy and soft. They would also make a great gift for the holidays! Love that they are priced under $75.

These square toe heels are on trend and a must-have for any capsule shoe wardrobe. Fingers crossed I have somewhere to wear them this season! They are very comfortable, but with all of our lockdowns, heels haven’t been something I have needed to wear. When we get our vaccines, I will find a lot of excuses to wear high heels! Just wait! haha

Lastly, we all need one pair of fabulous sneakers for walking and everyday wear. As you may have noticed, these have been in my seasonal capsule wardrobes for the last couple of years. They are high quality and super comfortable. If you are looking for a great investment, these are it!

Pre-Fall 2020 IT bags to watch

fall 2020 it bags

Pre-Fall 2020 IT bags from top left: soft black clutch / Gucci bag / soft blue clutch / soft sea green hobo bag / small cross body pouch / brown soft satchel / grey structured hobo bag / black puffy woven chain bag /

Pre-Fall 2020 is starting to hit store shelves, and online store websites. As new, and repeat, handbag styles start to emerge for early fall, we are seeing a clearer picture as to which bags will be hot for the fall 2020 season. These bags reflect the handbag trends we have been talking about since spring, and they are fabulous.

The Pouch

The pouch is the impractical bag that keeps on giving! This large, soft, pouch clutch fits everything you need throughout the day, without a convenient strap. The Bottega Veneta version is the trend starter, and it comes in over ten colors! This is the bag we saw on the arms of street style stars at fashion week; and it is showing signs of speeding up in popularity; not slowing down!

Since this bag is such a hot trend, other IT handbag brands are answering the trend with their own versions. There is really only one other version of this style worth your time; Mansur Gavriel’s Cloud clutch. This fabulous clutch offers an unique silhouette, and a price point well under $1000. This means it is the more affordable way to rock the trend. It is also the way I rock the trend! I own it in black with flamma interior, and I love it. It is actually comfortable to carry around, and fits everything I need to bring with me during the day; with space to spare! The Cloud clutch comes in several colors too. You’ll love it!

If a clutch is just to cumbersome for you, Mansur Gavriel has a fabulous small version with a cross body strap. It too comes in a variety of colors. I’m trying to decide if I want this pretty beige color, or the blue. Decisions decisions!

To up the pouch game, Bottega Veneta has also introduced a pouch version with a chunky chain. I dream about this bag. I believe you may too.

The Hobo

Yes, the hobo is back. You can rock your hobo bag small or large. You can choose soft and slouchy, or stiff and structured. There is no wrong way to rock the hobo. This fits perfectly in with the emerging ’70’s influence in apparel we will see hit store shelves this fall 2020 season. It is also a great casual bag; since this year is very casual in style. You should have one in your closet, if not, go for the IT version of the hobo bag by Chloe or Bottega Veneta. They are two hot ways to rock a hobo. I’m crushing on Chloe’s version. It’s fabulous.

Puffy Bags

Playing off the pouch, puffy bags are hotter than hot for fall. Look for puffy, pillow-like bags which double as a pillow for a daytime nap, as well as puffy quilts from YSL, and puffy weaves from Bottega Veneta. The number one IT bags in the world of puffy bags is from Bottega Veneta; and it has a chunky chain. Love!

Vintage vibe satchels

Satchels are loosening their collar for fall 2020. Look for soft leather from Chloe and Givenchy. Also look for 1970’s era logo looks from Gucci. These are the ultimate carry-alls for the fall 2020 season.

Pastel Hues and Neutrals

The color palette in handbags for pre-fall 2020 is offering pastels as well as neutrals hues. Look for shades of brown, white, black and grey for neutrals. Also look for pastel hues in blues, green, pink, and yellow.

I love all the choices we have for fall 2020 when it comes to IT bags. Which IT bag catches your eye from the pre-fall 2020 collections?

Playing tourist in the city

staycation san francisco

3 picture perfect spots in San Francisco

There are very few things in San Francisco us locals can never do on a summer Saturday: casually walk around the Golden Gate Bridge, explore underneath the bridge, park in front of the Palace of Fine Arts, walk around without crowds, and park in front of the Painted Ladies and snap photos.

These are popular tourist activities, and locals normally visit them during the off season-or really early in the morning before the tourists wake up. While I am not celebrating the current lock-down, it does cut down on traffic, and allow for some stress-free activities we normally would not think of doing on a summer Saturday when there isn’t any fog.

We arrived at the Golden Gate Bridge parking lot-the one right in front with only twenty-five spaces-at 9:30am on Saturday morning. The fog had already burned off, and it was a perfect day for sight-seeing. I had to pinch myself when I got a parking spot inside the main lot-which is always full on summer days.

Excited about our parking spot score, we paid the fee and started our walk across the bridge. But don’t get too excited: just because we scored a fabulous parking spot, didn’t mean everything was going to be smooth sailing. One minute of walking on the bridge, and the police stopped us. There was “police activity” on the bridge, and the walkway was blocked off. They wouldn’t tell us what happened, but when we saw five squad cars, and a fire truck, we knew something bad was up; so we changed course, and took a walk underneath the bridge instead. This was a really good hike since it is very steep going under there!

We walked to Fort Point underneath the bridge, and snapped photos; just like tourists would do, next to the water. It was really fun! The last time I was there, was for a field trip when I was in grade school, so it was nice to bring the kids to a place which is normally crowded and eagerly avoided by locals.

The Palace of Fine Arts is leftover from the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. When I was growing up, it was the Exploratorium. They moved the Exploratorium to the piers, and now I think of the Palace of Fine Arts as a tourist attraction. I haven’t been there since the it was the Exploratorium! It was weird walking around and looking at it, instead of walking past it to grab a good place in line to get into the Exploratorium. I don’t think I really ever took the time to enjoy how beautiful the structure is!

Another summer miracle, was grabbing a parking spot right in front, on a late Saturday morning, during the summer, on a non-foggy day. I really needed to pinch myself! It was fun showing the kids around the Palace of Fine Arts, and my oldest daughter really loved all the ducks!

After wandering around the Palace of Fine Arts, my husband suggested we go take pictures in front of the Painted Ladies. I protested. “No way!” I said to him. “It will be full of tourists, we won’t be able to park, and we will get stuck in summer tourist traffic.” He laughed when I said that, and assured me the city was free of tourists right now. Resigned, I got in the car and drove our family to the Painted Ladies.

I ate my words when we found a parking spot right in front. No joke, I parked in front of the apartment building next to the Painted Ladies, without waiting or circling for a spot, on a sunny Saturday in July. Now I realized I must be in the Twilight Zone.

My husband was really excited, and directed us across the street to the park so we could take the perfect, touristy family photos. An iPhone photo-shoot happened. It was very surreal. I have never been able to park and actually look at the Painted Ladies. I would normally avoid the entire area, and if I got stuck near them, and I do say stuck, very colorful words would flow out of my mouth as it would normally take me ten minutes to navigate out of the tourist-traffic-heavy area. Since my husband also grew up in the Bay Area, he understood the novelty of the situation; hence his excitement.

My “playing tourist,” and very comfortable, outfit details:

So there you have it! We were actually able to play tourist in San Francisco without hitting any traffic, crowds, or parking issues. I am still pinching myself to make sure it was all real.

If you are local, definitely plan a staycation day in the city! It’s the perfect time! If you are not local, these are three beautiful spots to check out when you visit our beautiful city. If you visit during peak tourist season, just take an Uber everywhere. It will eliminate any stress from trying to park. Take lots of photos, and enjoy!
