Color of the Year 2022 Very Peri

The color of the year is here! How pretty is “Very Peri” from Pantone?! This is the first year in a long time that the color of the year isn’t one of the top colors from New York Fashion Week’s spring color palette. While shades of purple have been gaining popularity for some time, this particular shade was a surprise! A good surprise, in my humble opinion.

Periwinkle is a fabulous shade of purple because it has the most blue of any purple hue. It can easily be described as half blue and half purple. Personally, I put periwinkle in the purple family because my eyes see more of the purple than the blue; even though they are evenly mixed. Although, Pantone describes it more as a blue, and they place it in the blue family. They are the world color authority, so they know!

If you go back and look at the spring 2022 color palette, you will see several blue hues, and one purple. Very Peri is a great color to tie them all together. As we move into 2022, you may not always see this exact shade of Very Peri. Use it as a guide and gravitate towards shades of blue and purple. Designers are showing various blue and purple hues which range from pastel, to vivid and bright. There is a shade of blue and/or purple for you!

The return of the soft hobo

Well, the return of the soft hobo bag is here! The last couple of years we have watched as the structured hobo bag remerged from IT bag hibernation. As it became one of the most important styles in the handbag world over the past year, the soft hobo decided to join it, and return to the world of must-have handbags; and I’m here for it!

The soft hobo is the ultimate street style IT bag. This handbag style has a naturally casual vibe to it, and soft hobo bags also happen to be extremely popular as an everyday, go-to handbag. This makes the soft hobo bag very common on the streets, and well loved by people everywhere. This is the people’s handbag.

Soft hobo bags were extremely popular in the 1990s, and they trickled into the early 2000s. Sadly, they were replaced by the rise of the structured satchel which enjoyed popularity for well over a decade. As the structured satchel moves back into office-gear, the hobo bag remerges as the bag to own.

Hobo bags are fabulous because they are lightweight, can be worn on the shoulder, and can easily be placed on your lap, or behind you on a chair while at a restaurant. They are easy, everyday handbags which generally fit everything we all need to carry around on a daily basis. Love that!

Structured hobos reemerged first, and they were a great transition from the satchel since they offer a structured silhouette which can be worn casual or dressy, as well as with office attire. As we move into 2022, we are looking to expand our hobo bag wardrobes, and the soft hobo bag fits the bill. This unfussy handbag style gives us a go-to, casual look which has an effortless, chic vibe. Plus, who doesn’t love the soft fabrication of the hobo bag?! Love!

Although I have a large, soft black hobo in my archives, I wanted something smaller, with a pop of color. My clothing choices have been neutral and dark lately, so adding some color to my capsule through a handbag seemed like a fun way to jump into the soft hobo bag trend. Isn’t this a pretty red?

This top and jeans are my go-to look right now. I have been changing it up with different shoes and handbags. Fall 2021 trends from the NYFW runways

The fall/winter 2021/22 collections from New York Fashion Week have all been presented. While the shows were presented digitally this season, we were still able to feel the overall vibe of the season, and recognize a few stand-out trends to look forward to for the cold weather season later this year.

Fall 2021 has been heavily influenced by the 1970s, 1980s, and mildly by the 1990s. We also saw some 1960s inspiration in the collections. Designers wanted to keep their collections comfortable, yet structured and chic enough for city streets. As consumers emerge from their homes this year, after being quarantined and kept at home for such a long time, people will want to start dressing up. That being said, they will want the comfort their loungewear spoiled them with over the last year. Therefore, designers worked hard to make street-worthy collections which are made more sustainably, and offer comfort.
