5 summer must-haves

Summer is here! This means we are all planning day tips, weekend getaways, and exciting vacations. In order to make summer beach days fun, air travel organized, and the season stress-free, I wanted to share with you my five favorite items to use while traveling this summer season. They are not revolutionary, just practical; and I happen to love them, so I hope you do too!

Sturdy and identifiable suitcases

The summer season usually includes at least one vacation getaway. This means we all need sturdy suitcases which are easy to spot when they come off the baggage claim carousal. It is a good rule of thumb to not have expensive luggage since someone might want to steal it; that being said, you also don’t want something so cheap that is falls apart when it gets tossed on, and off, the plane.

I love my purple luggage set. I have had it for about two years now and it holds up really well. I check my bags when I fly, and aside from some scratches, they look great! They are also easy to identify during baggage claim. You can find my set on sale right now here. That handbag is a favorite of mine, and can be found online here.

Comfortable yet fashionable shoes

Comfortable doesn’t have to mean frumpy! If you don’t already own a pair of Adidas Superstar’s, now is the time to grab a pair! Everyone from grade school students to Fashionista Grandmas own a pair of these sneakers. They are comfortable, and offer some serious street style cred. You will need a pair this summer for walking around theme parks such as Disneyland or Great America. You will also need a pair if you are traveling; they are great to wear while site seeing! You can find them in stock online here.

Essential travel accessories

So remember that thing about sturdy luggage for flying? You will want a luggage tag for your checked bag. Now that TSA is planning to make us take more out of our carry-ons, it is getting to the point where we might as well check everything! We will all need another luggage tag for that.

Also, we are heading towards the era of the “Real ID,” this means we all should have a passport and/or passport card. If you plan to travel a lot, a passport cover is essential for keeping your precious ID protected while you are on the go. Mine can be engraved with your initials and can be found online here.

Beach beauty travel-size products

garnier travel products

Summer vacation usually includes a lot of time in the sun and sand. These travel beauty products are TSA friendly and also help combat humidity and tired skin. I swear by the Frizz Guard for hot, humid summer days! I don’t do well with frizz, I would die without this product. You can find it online here.

Thin, packable beach blanket which doubles as an airplane blanket

If you read my recent Tahoe trip recap, you may have noticed this beach blanket. It is actually really thin, and folds nicely into a small little shape which fits inside a handbag. Love that! It is great for sitting on while at the beach, using as a lightweight blanket in the car on road trips, or as a giant blanket on an airplane. It could also be used as a large beach wrap. Love it! You can find it for under $40 online here.

These are five things I find essential for the summer season, for both stay-cation days, and vacation days! What are your favorite items to help make summer fun and stress free?

Channeling vacation in Tulum at a work conference

Channeling vacation in Tulum, Mexico! Last week I attended a conference in Dallas, Texas. The conference was hosted by rewardStyle which is a media and affiliate marketing company geared towards fashion, beauty and lifestyle bloggers. The conference is known throughout social media as #rsTheCon if you would like to search the hashtag for pictures.

I was so excited to receive an invitation to the conference. There are only about two hundred spots available and they are tough spots to come by! So, I definitely felt honored to be included. As with any business conference, there were classes and networking opportunities with both brands and bloggers. It was really fun to meet some bloggers I know through social media, but have never had the chance to meet in person. While education at a conference is must-have for your business, making new friends who can become your support group is a goldmine. Love it!

So you might be asking yourself, why is she channeling Tulum at a work conference in Dallas? Well, on day one of the conference all we did was check-in, meet-and-greet with other attendees, and celebrate being there at a pool party! The theme of the pool party was “Escape to Tulum” and it was sponsored by Sole Society, so it was super fun! Hence my outfit, channeling a vacation in Tulum 😉

Surprisingly, this is not what I planned to wear to this event. The original dress I planned to wear didn’t work out for the party, so I decided to wear this outfit instead which I had originally planned to wear on day three of the conference. It worked out perfectly since it was fairly warm and humid at the pool party, and this skirt breathes! Love!

Circling back to the original dress; when I tried it on at home I thought the bra I packed would be OK, but it totally showed through! Eeeek! I can’t go around like that!! So, the dress will have to come home with me and get worn another time. But, that wasn’t my only packing snafu. I forgot to pack my eye-shadow brush, and my black wedges. Ugh! I am usually really good about following my packing list, but somehow I screwed up this time. Has this ever happened to you?

Thank you so much for stopping by, and stay tuned for more coverage of my escapades at conference!

I am in New York for fashion week! That’s right! Despite the fact that we are still enjoying summer 2016, designers are sending their spring/summer 2017 designs down the runways in New York starting today.

This week I am attending New York Fashion Week spring 2017 in order to share with you what emerging designers, boutique designers, avante-garde designers, mainstream brands, and iconic designers are showing for the next warm weather season. I will be attending approximately twenty-five shows this week in order to spot the trends you need to know about for spring 2017, right now before fall even starts! Don’t ‘cha love that!

Fall 2016 was all about 1970s inspiration, and splashes of vintage inspiration from the 1960s and 1990s. What will spring 2017 bring? It seems as though the boho-chic, 1970s styles have been on the runways now for several seasons. Will spring continue this trend, or has it run it’s course, moving designers into a more structured world?

The past few seasons have been all about embellishments, patterns, and bold mixes. Will designers continue this train of thought, or will they move more into a minimalist realm?

These questions and more will be answered this week as designers show us what we will be coveting for the spring 2017 season! Be sure to follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and/or Facebook in order to see what is on the spring 2017 runways in New York at fashion week!

XOXO

Cathy
