holidays 2018 IT list from top left: brown teddy coat-faux fur / clear tote bag / holiday nail polish / fleece pull-over / faux fur trimmed bootie / turtleneck sweater /

If you have been following along for awhile, then you know I am all about IT items! If you are new here, welcome! Periodically I recap the current IT items of the moment. The whole reason I go to fashion week twice a year is to forecast the trends we will wear in real life. Then from there, the trends get narrowed down by what buyers stock on shelves, and what actually sells. If an item of the moment takes off, it is more than just a trend, it is an IT item.

What defines an IT item? This could be debated. In my opinion, an IT item is something that not only reflects a current trend, it starts a trend and sells out quickly. The items in this post are either IT items which are selling quickly, or they are affordable choices from hot IT trends. I hope you love these trends as much as I do!

  • The Teddy Coat in brown: OK, so teddy coats, or faux fur coats, have been in style for several winter seasons, but this season the ultimate IT teddy coat is in teddy bear brown. You can wear other colors, but the ultimate must-have hue of the moment is brown. The one pictured above is selling out quickly-so snap it up! I bought it in grey and wish I bought the brown one too while it was in stock. Silly me!
  • Clear Tote Bags: The hottest trend in handbags right now, that people actually wear, is the clear tote bag. (cough cough-no-one actually wears fanny packs in real life as cross body bags. Like “fetch,” it’s not going to happen.) The trend in handbags people are actually buying and wearing is the clear tote. The ultimate IT bag of the clear tote world is this cute little one by Staud. You can check out my review of the smaller version here. The larger size, pictured above, is the most popular size they make.
  • Chanel Insolence nail polish: This color is almost sold out, so if you want it, snap it up now! Chanel is usually the one with the IT nail polish hues of the season, so this is not a shocker. This is the only IT nail polish color right now, so if you want IT nails, this is your color!
  • Fleece Pull-Over: The fleece pull-over is a classic, everyday casual piece. This season, it is more popular than usual. Everyone is wearing one! Leave your ski jacket for the slopes, the ultimate cozy cover-up on casual days is the fleece pull-over. The one pictured above is a soft and affordable version which fits nicely into this trend.
  • Faux Fur Trim Booties: Faux fur trimmed booties are a classic cold weather staples. The flat version is hotter than hot this year. The one pictured above is an affordable way to rock this IT shoe trend. If you like the pair I wore on the blog last month, it’s on sale and can be found online here.
  • Turtleneck Sweaters: Turtleneck sweaters are another classic that has put itself front and center this season. The IT sweater of the moment is the turtleneck. You can find body conscious versions such as this one, or the relaxed one above.

Logo bags for 2018

from top left: Burberry tote / Gucci handbag / Burberry satchel / Balmain bag / Balenciaga backpack / Tom Form tote /

Well, it appears that logo bags are here to stay; at least for now. I thought the logo bag trend was fleeting, but designers seem to be loving it and showcasing various logo designs in future collections. So, at least for 2018, the logo bag is here to stay.

There are several ways to wear the logo bag trend. You can go with a traditional “CC” on a Chanel bag or “GG” on a Gucci bag, or you can go the very trendy route and opt for the entire designer’s name written on the bag. As you can see in the examples above, designers are making sure their names are the focal point of their bags.

The trendy logo bags we are seeing for 2018 tend to be more casual then the traditional small logos displayed on a bag’s clasp. This makes the current crop of logo bags easy to wear everyday and on the weekends. If you are looking for something fun to wear everyday, and don’t mind a one to two season bag, then a logo bag might be your thing!

Street style handbags New York Fashion Week February 2018

It is one thing to spot trends on the runways at New York Fashion Week, it is another thing to spot what people are wearing on the runway designers want their handbags to be seen on; the street.

Since fashion week in February has a combination of winter weather, and guests wanting to rock the latest spring trends, the only thing people can really wear without worrying about ice on the sidewalk, or snow falling from the sky, is a handbag. The spring 2018 handbags were out in full force at New York Fashion Week fall 2018! Yes!

I took careful notes of what people were carrying when attending the shows at New York Fashion Week. The street style handbags from New York Fashion Week will dictate which handbag trends will dominate the spring season, and which designer bag will gain the coveted “IT” status of the season. I have to admit, I was a little surprised to see the handbag patterns on the street!

Didn’t we say something about the death of the mini bag? Weren’t they going away? Well, they are going away, unless they are shaped like a circle or a box, then, they are not going away. That’s right! The streets of New York Fashion Week have spoken. Small or mini circle bags, and box bags, are all the rage for spring 2018; just don’t wear them cross body, that’s so last year.

Of course, there is more to street style handbags then small circles and boxes; the fashion set was also spotted wearing the Gucci Dionysus, Gucci Marmont, Chloe Nile, Chanel Boy Bag (it’s making a resurgence!), and any style of Louis Vuitton. Is Louis going to have a moment? It is so very 1990s. . .speaking of the 1990s. . .

Oh GenerationX, I hope you kept your mini backpack! Unfortunately, mine is long gone. <sign> Mini backpacks were everywhere on the streets of New York Fashion Week. Look for mini backpacks this season in bright colors, metallic hues, and funky fabrications. Free up those hands girl and dance! Speaking of free hands. . .

American tourists in white tennis shoes will rejoice at the third biggest trend in street style handbags from New York Fashion Week. The fanny pack is back from the 1980s, and it is not your typical touristy, nylon fanny pack. Sometimes called “belt bags,” the fanny pack was everywhere at fashion week, and it was Gucci. Don’t even bother getting a different designer or brand; it’s Gucci, or look like a cheesy American tourist, your choice.

Can we circle back to Louis Vuitton? For guests who need more space in their handbags during fashion week, the two bags I spotted the most often were the Louis Vuitton Neverfull, and the good ol’ fashion week standby; the Givenchy Antigona. In general, workhorse fashion week bags offered two top handles, a medium size, a neutral hue, or a metallic color. The bright colors were reserved for the smaller bags such as the circles, boxes, and <gasp> fanny packs.

The most spotted bags in these categories were the Gucci fanny pack, the MCM box bag, Louis Vuitton Neverful, Givenchy Antigona, Gucci Dionysus, anything from the Gucci Marmont family, Brahmin Lane Melbourne, Chloe Pixie, Chloe Nile, and the Chanel Boy bag. Which IT bag is your favorite?
