Swimming for fitness gear

If you have been following my swimming for fitness series, you might be thinking about getting some new gear for the pool! While most pools provide kickboards, pull boys, and paddles, you will need to bring your own swimsuit, goggles, and cap.

I am extremely picky when it comes to my swimming for fitness gear. I trust two brands to supply quality construction, comfort, and performance enhanced gear. These two brands are Speedo, and Nike. Over the years, I have found these are the two brands I can trust to manufacture the ideal gear for swimming.

When it comes to swimsuits, Nike and Speedo make the most comfortable suits. If you are looking for swimsuits for fitness, both brands are perfect. If you want to move into competitive swimming, I would recommend standing by Speedo. All of their gear is engineered for performance, and I have to admit, every record I set as a child was done in a Speedo swimsuit, with Speedo “Sprint” goggles on my head.

Since swimming for fitness is not necessarily a performance situation, you can have a little bit more fun with your gear. Both Nike and Speedo make really cute, and comfortable, two piece suits in both tankini, and bikini form. These are great for working out in the pool since you can keep your belly out, and it can get a little sun.

When you swim a lot, especially in the summer months, the one-piece suit can give you what I like to refer to as a “Speedo tan.” This is a very modest, one-piece tan which makes your white torso look bright in a bikini. The two-piece suits by Nike and Speedo are great for eliminating this stark white belly problem by allowing the sun to tan your belly while you workout. Love that!

Unfortunately Speedo does allow clipping from their website, so I cannot provide a scroll bar for you with my picks. You can find fabulous swimsuits, goggles, and caps online at Speedo.com. I am sure you will find something you love!

My picks from Nike, and other websites, are in the scroll bar below. I hope you find the swimming for fitness gear you love! Happy swimming, and stay fabulous 😉

Gym to street outfit hiking in Tahoe

Pictured: Sunglasses: Chanel / Earrings: Kendra Scott / Lipstick: Chanel Mighty / Sports Bra: Nike / Black workout top: Zella / White over top: Hard Tail / Pants: Stella Sport (sold out, also love this pair) / Handbag: Mansur Gavriel / Nail Polish: Dior Cosmic / Shoes: c/o Nike (this black pair currently on sale would look better)

How many times have you wanted to run errands after working out at the gym, but have felt self-conscious in your workout attire? This happens to me  all the time! I always feel embarrassed running to the supermarket in tight workout pants, and a tank top. I feel like it is OK to walk around like that at the gym, but no-one needs to see my fat rolls at the supermarket! haha

So this season, I decided to put together a gym to street outfit which is comfortable, and appropriate for working out, as well as running errands! I chose these pants since they are a hybrid between sweatpants, and workout pants. They are great for low impact gym workouts, weight training sessions, and Pilates. I prefer a tighter pant for high impact cardio, yoga, and spin classes.

This white top is perfect for throwing over my tight workout tank top. It covers up everything it needs to cover up, while still giving off an urban, hip vibe. Love that! It has cured my self-conscious feelings after working out when I need to run to the supermarket, bank, etc.

Now, you may be looking at these pictures and saying to yourself, “those shoes don’t go!” Ha! You’re right! These are my only athletic shoes right now, so I wear them with everything. Plus, I am in love with these running shoes, so I always reach for them when I workout indoors, or outdoors. I did order a new pair from Nike, so I will have a second pair very soon; until then, blue and pink floral print it is!

If I were to buy shoes for every workout outfit I own, I would buy plain black Nike’s for this gym to street outfit. I think they would look perfect. I am eyeing this pair, currently on sale. Black athletic shoes are basic, so I feel like I could really use a pair.

We took these pictures while hiking in Truckee on our recent spring break trip to Lake Tahoe. This outfit was perfect! I started off by wearing the white top (the handbag stayed home during the hike), as I warmed up, I took off the top, and it was perfect! The temperatures were in the high fifties, and the hike offered beautiful scenery. If you visit Tahoe in the spring season, I highly recommend going on a hike. The snow is melting, so you see run off; beautiful running water and streams, plus snow piles mixed into the terrain. It is truly breathtaking.

I am excited to continue to wear this gym to street outfit at both the gym, and for outside workouts. I love how this white top transforms the outfit; making it easy to wear around in public.

Stay tuned! I have more articles coming up from our recent spring break trip to Lake Tahoe!

Fitness gear for the new year

fitness gear for the new year

From left: white hoodie / purple leggings / purple tank / sports bra / duffle bag / running shoes / lavender tee / jacket / loose yoga pants

I have always been a fitness buff, but for 2016, I am completely revamping my workout routine in order to lose fifteen pounds! In my quest for fitness success, I want to spice up my almost-all-black fitness wardrobe, and get some new fitness gear for the new year!

If you are heading to the gym for your new years resolution, you might be looking for new fitness gear in the new year too! I have a few basics I like to stick to, but for 2016, I would like to add some brighter colors, and less conservative styles to my fitness wardrobe.

The basics are simple. I cannot live with out a Nike sport bra. No other sports bra offers the support, and the comfort, Nike’s classic staple offers. If you have not found the perfect sports bra yet, I highly recommend this one!

I love capri leggings for spin classes, step classes, and cardio kick-boxing (BodyCombat) classes. They offer smooth range of motion, and are not too warm since they hit below the knee, and do not extend to the ankle. I attend a step class every Saturday morning. This year, I want to commit to getting myself down to the gym every Friday for BodyCombat and every Tuesday for Spin. They are all such great workouts for both the legs, and the core.

When it comes to yoga, I just don’t go. Not this year! As I age, I have found I need more recovery after working hard at the gym, and I also need to stretch more in order to stay injury free! So, as part of my new years resolution, I plan to add yoga into my schedule. I already do fifteen minutes of Pilates three times per week after working out, so I feel like I get enough Pilates on my own. My favorite type of Pilates is simple mat Pilates. It is a great way to strengthen the core, and stretch muscles you didn’t know you had!

I don’t like wearing tight clothing for yoga or Pilates, so the loose pants pictured above are perfect since they are not constricting, and they can easily be worn to run errands before or after a yoga class. Love that!

When it comes to shoes, I am a Nike girl! I have been wearing Nike since High School and swear by the brand. These shoes are my favorite running shoe style. I wear running shoes for running, or walking on the treadmill. For fitness classes, I prefer a cross trainer such as this pair, and for tennis I wear good old fashioned tennis shoes such as this pair.

I like a no-nonsense duffle bag for the gym. I don’t like using a designer tote, or an overly fussy bag. I feel like a gym bag should look athletic; not like it is pretending to be something else. This duffle bag is perfect; and very sporty looking! Love that!

What are your current fitness goals? Do you prefer classes, or do you workout on your own?
