Fall 2019 trends to watch

Chiari Boni le petite robe fall 2019 runway NYFW

The fall 2019 season is starting to appear in stores, and we are catching a glimpse of what made it from the runways to the streets. The fall 2019 runways included menswear, vintage vibes, texture, and darker colors than previous fall seasons. We saw influences from the 1940’s through to the 1990’s. The looks included athleisure, power suits, slim silhouettes, and a return to ladylike, feminine dressing. Stores shelves are almost in the same place for fall.

Store buyers went big on atheisure, power suits, blazers, anything plaid, animal prints and vintage inspiration from the 1980’s and 90’s; with a few 60’s hemlines thrown in, just to mix things up. Here is what to expect on the streets for fall.

Menswear inspiration:

Look for power suits, blazers instead of jackets, plaid on anything and everything, trouser pants on casual days, and clunky, chunky shoes. Think 1980’s Wall Street power suit. That’s your new look for the office, and anytime you want to exert your power.

Get ready to roar!

Any type of animal print is hot for fall. Look for animal prints on all of your clothing, and grab yourself a pair of snakeskin boots. They are the IT boot style for fall! Meow! Roar! And any other noises animals make. Haha Grrrrr!

Where’s the big hair?

Everything 80’s is hot for fall, except the big mall hair. Leave your Aquanet under the sink this season, you can rock those exaggerated shoulders and sleeves without it. Look for giant puff sleeves, big shoulders, inverted triangle silhouettes, and neon hues mixed among the racks of dark, autumn hues. Think neon yellow, two different earrings, scrunchies, big bows, secretary blouses, and pencil skirts.

Smells like the 90’s

Who said the 90’s were dead? Obviously they live under a rock. Doc’s are back, so whip out your Mod look from the early 90’s and rocks those combat boots with your head held high. Also, be sure to pair them with a tight, black bodysuit underneath paprbag waist pants. Your rave is ready for you; and so is The Cure.

The great hemline debate

I have missed the hemline debate. It seems as if hemlines haven’t mattered in more than a decade. I remember when your hemline showed the world what you knew about fashion. No-one would dare wear last year’s hemline! The horror! Well guess what peeps! Hemline significance is back. For fall 2019 look for 60’s a-line mini-skirts, 90’s rocker postage stamp mini skirts, knee length pencil skirts, and pleated t-length skirts. Maxi’s are always accepted. Those are the hemline rules! Will you follow them?

Colors speak for themselves right? I don’t need to try and be witty? 😉

Athleisure / street style

Athleisure is the trend that keeps on giving. Look for adidas logos everywhere, and make sure you have a pair of Superstar’s in your wardrobe. Funky sweatpants, exaggerated sole sneakers, and workout clothing you wouldn’t wear to the gym because it’s too nice. That’s what falls athleisure trend is all about. Get comfy-just make sure you don’t actually sweat in that look, um-kay?

Sparkle and shine, it’s Studio 54 time! Again.

Yes, sparkles are back, and they were not gone long. Chances are you have sparkling fabrics and sequins hanging in your closet. Grab those sparkles and pair them with jeans, wide-leg trousers and pencil skirts. Shine like the star you are!

Shrink to fit handbags

Ditch the oversize bag, this season is all about medium and small, not mini or nano, top handle satchels. One top handle please. Look for snakeskin, metallic, and smooth, structured leathers. Logos are over; so store or consign your Louis. A logo on the clasp of a bag doesn’t count. Those are always there, they are not a trend. Your handbag should whisper; if it flashes, it’s so two years ago.

Also, dressy bags should sparkle-not whisper, (confused yet?), and quilted bags are gaining momentum and could explode in 2020.

More trends to watch:

wide leg pants on the Noon by Noor fall 2019 NYFW runway

Pants this season are slim and cropped, paperbag waisted, or wide legged. Nothing else. That’s all.

Ruffles have rrrrrrrrridges! It’s “Little House on the Prairie” time people! Make sure you have too many ruffles on your blouse or dress, that way no-one can count them. Ruffle up!

Mock turtlenecks. No-one said you had to rock every trend. Um. . .yeah. . .

Denim trends follow pant trends. Look for wide legs, slim and cropped, dramatic side slits, and also, bootcut is back.

Your shoes should be metallic, snakeskin, a pair of Doc’s, or funky street sneakers. Also look for combat boots, lug soles, almost-platform soles, and any kind of tread. No-one has any excuse to slip on ice this year!

Did you lose an earring? It’s OK, wearing two matching earrings is so last year. Rock those mis-matched earrings like it’s 1986. Also, pearls are hot. That’s all.

Well, that’s the summary of the fall 2019 fashion trends which made it from the runways to the streets. As the fall season progresses, I will dig deep into trends which really work well on the street, and that I approve of. You won’t catch me in a mock turtleneck. Ew.

Escaping the heat in Ventura

casual fall outfits ideas ventura boat harborlate summer casual outfits ventura harbor

wearing: pearl earrings (similar here) / sunglasses / summer lipstick / fall long sleeve tee / nail polish / Chloe bag / fall jeans / espadrille mules (on major sale!)

Is it crazy hot where you live? It’s in the high 90’s, low 100’s here in the San Francisco Bay Area right now! It’s so warm, we are all melting! In order to escape the heat, and also take one last quick trip before school starts, we decided to take a mini road trip down to Ventura.

If you are not familiar with the California coast, Ventura is a small beach town south of Santa Barbara. It’s not super crowded, and it has a large harbor, good restaurants, and plenty of cool fog! Love fog right now!

Our first day in Ventura felt so good. It was roughly thirty degrees cooler than at home, and we actually felt a little bit cold. This was such a good thing! We left home in the morning and drove for five hours down the coast. We arrived in Ventura around 2:30pm and checked into our hotel. We stayed at the Four Points Sheraton near the Village, which is a small shopping area next to the boat harbor. It has shops, restaurants, and a carousel which was closed-boo for us! It was a nice place to stay since we could walk to the restaurants, and enjoy harbor views.

We ate dinner at Water’s Edge, which is not in the Village, but a short walk on the other side of the harbor. The food was out of this world! I enjoyed the “Trophy Pasta” which was crazy good-and my family really enjoyed their meals too. If you are ever in the Ventura area, this is a restaurant you will want to visit! The views of the harbor are beautiful, you can watch the sunset, and the food is really yummy. Love that!

We packed more into this weekend getaway! Stay tuned for more from Ventura!

Juggling back to school with multiple children

back to school tips multiple children schoolcool clothing middle school

On my kids: middle school boys outfit: green top / black shorts / high school girls outfit: athelisure dress / sneakers / middle school girls outfit: blue tee / black running shorts / sneakers /

I have three kids, who attend three different schools. This means multiple start times, multiple end times, and driving all over town! I am definitely a “Mom Taxi!” Ha ha! In order to ensure I can get all the kids to school on time, I need to plan ahead.

The first thing we did to prepare for back to school was to get the kids’ wardrobes in order. I don’t like to buy too much before the first day of school, because when the kids go back, they always realize they need specific items for their closets. I try to stick to buying the basics they need, and then purchase the ultimate IT items that are popular among the kids after they ask for these items. Here in our school district, adidas is the ultimate destination for IT items my kids need in their back to school wardrobes.

All of the girls in middle school and high school wear adidas superstar sneakers. They are the ultimate IT shoes for teen girls! The favorite color combo is black stripes, on a white shoe. You really cannot go back to school without those sneakers!

Another IT item for teenage girls is the adidas trefoil hoodie sweatshirt. Every teen girl needs this sweatshirt in her closet!  Knowing these two items are must-have’s for teen girls, I ensured both of my teenage daughters have them clean and ready for the first day of school. Even if it’s 80 degrees outside on the first day of school, those sweatshirts will be worn-at least around the waist! Ha ha!  A girl has to show she has the ultimate IT item on day one!

When it comes to boys, adidas is also a go-to brand! Boys are not as specific when it comes to clothing. They are more brand driven. My son is starting middle school this fall, so I made sure he was fully stocked with adidas shorts and tee’s. They are the ultimate sporty pieces a boy needs for middle school. My son is all set!

Once they have their wardrobes settled, I purchase the boring stuff such as binders, binder paper, pens, pencils, folders, etc. Then, I need to make sure I plan ahead for dropping my kids off all over town!

How to organize multiple drop-offs

The first thing I do to prepare my kids for school the next day is make their lunch. Then, I always make sure my kids have their backpacks packed before bedtime. This way they aren’t scrambling in the morning before school. In addition to packing their backpacks the night before, I make my kids pick out their outfit the night before too. This way the morning is spent washing up, getting dressed, and eating breakfast. I have a schedule to keep!

It’s important to pay attention to when the drop-off line at school gets busy in the morning. I always get to my children’s schools before the drop-off line gets long. This way I can quickly get through the line, and get over to the next school for drop-off without any delays. Once the drop-off line gets busy, anything could happen, and my schedule is bound to get thrown off!

I would say the rule of thumb is to drop off your child twenty minutes before the first bell. Most parents arrive roughly ten minutes before the first bell. That’s when the drop-off circle becomes a madhouse.

I drop off my kids in order of when the first bell rings. This means my high schooler is dropped off first, then my youngest, and lastly my middle child.

When it comes to pick-up after school, I use the opposite reasoning to pick-up my children. Parents start filling up the pick-up circle twenty-minutes before the bell. No way am I sitting in a long line, in a hot car, with my engine idling. I live five minutes from the high school, which is the first bell to ring. I leave the house five minutes after it rings, enabling me to arrive at the school with the line moving quickly. My car doesn’t idle, and I am able swiftly pick up my daughter. Love that!

This leaves ample time to swing over to my middle child’s school to pick her up, then drive quickly through the circle to pick up my son. Once you know the traffic patterns, you can figure out a system for picking up multiple kids, at multiple schools, without being late or leaving your engine idling in the hot sun.

It can be overwhelming to have multiple kids, in multiple schools. Don’t let it overwhelm you! Once you know the traffic patterns, you can easily beat the system, and make the pick-up/drop-off routine smooth and simple.

What are some of your tips for juggling multiple kids in multiple schools? Feel free to share in the comments below!
