Lace for Fall 2010

Fashionistas are in for a treat this Fall! Designers have taken a feminine approach to fashion with the vintage trend and have added lace as a sweet accent to everything from sweaters to boots to jackets to skirts. Lace is popping up as trim along hemlines as well as the focal point of a garment. Lace is a fresh and flirty addition to vintage styles and minimalism outfits as it adds instant sass and modernism to otherwise dated looks.

Designers are showing dresses for Fall with lace as the overlay fabric creating a peek-a-boo effect. Dolce and Gabbana are showing 1960’s style mini-dresses with lace over red and lace over grey. Nina Ricci created a draped lace dress that is designed as a minimalism dress with the unexpected twist of lace fabric. Other designers such as Valentino and Moschino used lace as an accent creating a dressier, more evening look. Jean Paul Gaultier created the most beautiful dress with dramatic lace over a black dress.

Lace accessories are popping up on store shelves all over the Bay Area. Designers such as Valentino created black lace handbags in the form of a lace version of the LV Speedy and a lace hobo bag. There are casual shoes, boots and pumps with lace overlays or sheer lace. Designers are also showing wraps, coats, jackets and gloves.

Lace is a pretty and sexy accent to spice up a minimalism outfit or add some extra sass to a feminine vintage look. A lace handbag paired with an all black outfit and red coat will create a unique and eye-catching look for Fall. The full skirt and sweater look with a lady bag can be paired with lace pumps to add some extra oomph.

In these recessionary times, lace can be found by shopping your closet for accents from previous seasons. You can always update a little black dress from a previous season by purchasing lace from a fabric store and sewing it over the dress or making a shawl. Whether you wear the lace trend as a focal point in your outfit or as an accessory it is sure to add a little something extra to your Fall ensembles. Happy shopping and stay fabulous.

Fall 2010 Fashion Trends: Pearls

Pearls pearls pearls! One of the hot new trends for Fall 2010 in jewelry is pearls. Although jewelry was barely seen on the runways for Fall, pearls had their place among designer looks that were shown either without jewelry or with a minimal amount of pearls. The only other piece of jewelry seen on the runways for Fall was the large pendant.

Minimalism has taken over all of the vintage trends this Fall by excluding jewelry from a complete outfit. With the recession still in full gear, Bay Area Fashionistas are putting the bling away and wearing quiet jewels, if any at all. Designers in New York, Milan and Paris have followed suit and refrained from featuring large bling for Fall by sending models down the runway with naked ears, necks and wrists. The few looks that featured any jewelry for Fall were accessorised with pearls or the large pendant.

Pearls evoke a feeling of fear for many Fashionistas in the Bay Area who picture pearls with pumps and Grandmother’s tea. The new pearl look for Fall 2010 offers both classic and artistic jewelery styles that will suit even the most discerning Fashionista.

Classic pearl styles blend perfectly this Fall with the 1950’s and 1960’s trends from the runway. A single strand of pearls, about 18″ long will enhance a cardigan sweater or short sleeve pull-over sweater that is paired with a full skirt. A long, 36″ single strand pearl necklace will also work well with the vintage trend and can be worn long or wrapped around the neck once to create a shorter, double strand look. The 36″ strand is versatile since it can also be wrapped around the wrist several times to create a multi-strand bracelet. For Fashionistas interested in investing in real pearls, the long, single strand might be a wise investment since it can be worn in so many different ways. Single strand pearls also come in faux versions if the real thing is too costly. Banana Republic is offering a limited edition, genuine pearl bracelet that is to die for!

Department stores and small boutiques offer faux pearl versions that are funky and anything but ordinary. The faux pearl styles that are chunky, funky and unique can spice up a minimalism outfit or modernize a vintage outfit. Fashionistas who enjoy adding their own personality and twists to the Fall trends might prefer faux pearls since they are less costly than the real thing. Vera Wang is offering fashion forward, clusters of pearls that can add oomph to any outfit. Vera Wang offers choices between white pearls and black pearls as well as fabulous cuffs. Auden jewelry is showing an amazing pearl bib necklace for Fall that is sure to spice up an all-black outfit.

Whether pearls are your thing or not, there are different variations of pearl jewelry for this Fall that almost every Fashionista can enjoy. Not into pearls at all? That’s OK since jewelery is not front and center for this Fall season. Jewelery is barely being shown by designers, so pearls are a nice trend for those who cannot leave the house unadorned. And for Fashionistas who don’t do pearls; less is more.  Happy shopping and stay fabulous.

Fall 2010 Fashion: Boots

Boots for Fall 2010 are returning to more classic lines, yet still offered a bit of sass to Bay Area Fashionistas who enjoy a great pair of boots for Fall. With the vast array of trends for Fall 2010, boots are staying classic and can be worn with many looks from the 1960’s trend to the 1970’s silhouette to Minimalism to the military trend.

Christian Dior is showing fabulous variations of boots for Fall. Dior modified the over-the-knee boot from the 1960’s go-go era and gave it a motorcycle foot and heel with the neutral, go-with-anything color of soft grey. This boot can kick up a mini-dress giving it an edgy, modern look that tones down the Austin Powers costume effect. Valentino is also offering an over-the-knee boot in a soft taupe with a sweet bow on the side that will blend perfectly with the mini-dress trend of the 1960’s. Christian Louboutin and Giuseppe Zanotti are offering fabulous black over-the-knee boots that will add sass to a Minimalism outfit off all black with a red coat.

The Biker Boot is taking on new life this Fall season in tall boot styles and ankle bootie lengths. Prada is offering a tall, black, hardcore biker boot that slightly slouches when being worn. This boot might be the ultimate casual black boot for Fall. It can be paired with Minimalism looks and casual 1970’s outfits. The Prada biker boots can also be worn for any occasion from lunch with the girls to running to the super market. Of course, leave it to Valentino to create the ultimate, feminine version of the biker boot for Fall. Valentino’s creation gives Bay Area Fashionistas an answer to the Fall lace trend in a casual and wearable boot! Of course there is Dior who gives Fashionistas the luxurious crocodile biker boot in a rich brown. Modified versions of the biker boot include heavily buckled boots such as Brian Atwood’s military suede creation.

The Military Trend is giving Fashionistas plenty of boots to choose from this Fall. Aside from buckled versions such as Christian Louboutin’s black suede buckled boot, there are boots that encompass the military trend and the green trend all in one. Dior is offering an amazing military, ankle boot in army green and brown.

The Leopard Trend also moved into the boot world and designers made sure animal print addicts had plenty of choices this Fall. Gucci is offering a sexy, ankle bootie in leopard print that will spice up an all-black outfit. Fendi created an animalistic and sparkling boot that can be worn with a 1970’s trousers, short black skirt or a Minimalism outfit. Animal print lovers may just fall in love with Dolce & Gabbana’s leopard print bootie since it offers the animal trend as well as the new shoe sole that is very down to Earth.

Whichever boot trend tickles your toes this Fall, there is a wide array to choose from. The most classic choices have the least amount of embellishments and a heel you feel the most comfortable wearing. Leather always lasts longer than suede and quality counts. The buckle boot trend has come in and out the past few years, if this trend catches your eye you may want to shop your closet! You never know what might be in the back  Happy shopping and stay fabulous.
