It’s time to talk shoes!! Don’t we love shoes 🙂 The fall 2020 season is a season of comfort, practicality, and function. That being said, there is no reason we can’t rock the current shoe trends!

When it comes to shoes, fall 2020 is all about the rise of the square toe, stamped croc, the return of the lug sole (which I am skipping until winter), simple platform sneakers, and fabulous slippers. There is also a classic vibe in shoes; which brings back classic loafers, loafer pumps, and loafer slides.

While we all look at the current trends, and would love to rock them, sometimes we need to pick and choose in order to make our wardrobes work. This season, I am keeping things classic. I plan to rock the square toe, but on a simple pump. I am also re-wearing some shoes from previous seasons since they are either classic, or still on trend; such as platform sneakers, snakeskin boots, and slides.

The trends I am putting off for now include combat boots, lug sole loafers, log sole boots, and square toe sandals. I don’t really wear open toe in the fall, and I am not really in a lug sole mood; despite their emergence this season as an important trend. I want to keep my footwear simple and comfortable. My sneakers are super comfy, and of course these slippers will get a lot of use!

Boots are always comfortable, and these two pairs from last year are still on trend, and perfect to wear this autumn season. I invested in a new pair of loafers, since stamped croc is hotter than hot this season. These loafers will last several seasons since they are a classic style. Love that!

I’m excited to be able to re-wear so many shoes this season, and also have some variety to pair with my fall 2020 capsule wardrobe. When shopping your shoe closet for fall, look for classic styles such as loafers and neutral booties. If you have platform sneakers, rock them this season! Also, if you have any square toe pumps from last time they were hot, bring them back to the front of your closet.

What to invest in for fall 2020. If you don’t have shoes which fit into the current trends, I highly recommend investing in a pair of loafers, loafer slides, square toe pumps, platform sneakers, and fuzzy slippers. These are classic, or long lasting trends to look forward to for several seasons; if not years!

Fall 2019 shoe wardrobe

fall 2019 shoes

Fall 2019 shoes from top left: black high heels booties / snakeskin booties (color sold out, also love these) / brown cowgirl boots / Gucci sneakers /

Temperatures may be a bit warm outside, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get my fall 2019 shoe game on point! This fall 2019 season, I am all about booties and sneakers. I am still in love with athleisure, so I have two pairs of sneakers I love to wear on the streets of Silicon Valley; as opposed to the gym. Of course I still wear my adidas Superstar sneakers, but when I am feeling a bit more “fashion-y,” these Gucci platform sneakers are my go-to.

One of the big trends in shoes this fall 2019 season is the hybrid sneaker. We are looking at sneakers that double as hiking boots, or sneakers which could also be creepers; and more! Sneakers for fall 2019 will often feature platforms, lug soles, high tops with faux fur lining, and other odd features we do not normally see in sneaks. This Gucci pair offers just enough hybrid sneaker trend, without being too avant-garde. I like to jump into trends with an understated vibe.

These black, high heel booties are great for dressier looks, or just amping up a pair of jeans for a night out on the town. They are classic and chic, love!

Animal prints are always huge for fall, but for fall 2019, snakeskin is where it’s at in footwear. Look for snakeskin footwear everywhere! I love snakeskin on booties, so this pair is a current favorite of mine. The snakeskin is sold out, but the same brand has a similar pair, with the same snakeskin print leather, online here.

Lastly, the western trend is still going strong, so a pair of low cowgirl boots called my name this season. These brown cowgirl boots will be great with skinny jeans, skirts, and dresses. I am in love with the contrasting wooden heel; plus they are really comfortable. I might live in them this fall!

These shoes will be going to New York Fashion Week with me next week, so stay tuned to see how I style them! You can see the snakeskin booties here, and the black ones here.

Icy sidewalk-proof boots for easy walking

fabulous cold weather boots

pictured: cozy faux fur boots with lug sole (on major sale and in three colors) /

It’s that time of year when the sky could be blue, yet the sidewalks are filled with ice; sometimes invisible ice! This means if we wear a pair of shoes or boots with a smooth sole, we could spontaneously slip and fall. Ouch!

The best defense against icy sidewalks, is a lug sole. Unfortunately, many retailers don’t separate their lug sole shoes and boots in their category filter sections online, making sorting out the smooth soles from the ice-proof soles, difficult and time consuming. I have even tried typing “lug sole” into the search box of many retailers’ websites only to yield two or three pairs of shoes in the search results. There are way more then two or three pairs of lug sole shoes and boots on the market-or in stock! C’mon, retailers, get it together!

So, in order to make finding a fabulous pair of boots for winter with a lug sole (which is icy sidewalk-proof) easy for you,  I assembled a few of my favorite pairs from around the web that offer both flat and heeled styles. Now, you can look fabulous without falling while you walk down the street! Love that!

Have you ever slipped on an icy sidewalk? I slipped once in a cross-walk and some guy laughed at me, it was so embarrassing! I never attempted to wear a smooth sole in icy conditions ever again. Slipping on ice hurts!! I’m so thankful for the invention of the lug sole; and the fact that so many brands and designers offer a lug sole on fabulous boots and shoes with a heel! This 5’4″ girl needs some height! Bring me all the heels! haha

What are your favorite styles of icy sidewalk-proof boots or shoes for the winter season?
