Athleisure classics we all need in our closets

san francisco bay area street style athleisure

Classic athleisure pieces: black adidas sweatshirt / black sweatpants / relaxed handbag / adidas superstar sneakers / see original post here /

The athleisure trend is still up and running; with no signs of slowing down. How could it? Everyone loves being able to wear street to gym clothing, as well as comfortable looks which are un-fussy, machine washable, and feature the ultimate IT items. Another thing to love about athleisure? Classic sportswear that doubles as IT items! Love that!

If you have been following along, you may have already noticed how much I love adidas clothing, accessories, and footwear. I have been wearing adidas my whole life, and their quality is unmatched. Another reason I love adidas is that their clothing and accessories have an IT factor; and you know I love IT items!

Adidas Superstar sneakers are a classic street sneaker. They have been around for years, and everyone loves them. They are extremely high quality; I wear mine all the time and they just don’t wear out! In addition, they are the IT street sneaker to own. All the teens and adults around here love them. The teens favor black stripes on white, while adults will grab any color combo they love. These are definitely the shoes to own! I love that the ultimate IT shoe is a comfortable sneaker, and not a pair of 5″ stilettos! Ha!

I also need to give these sweatpants a shout-out. They are classic addias, three-stripe sweatpants. This pair of sweats is very comfortable, washes well, and is another closet staple, everyone owns! If you don’t have a pair yet-you seriously need one! The first time my son’s baseball coach saw me wear these sweatpants he said, “Hey! You’re livin’ that three-stripe life!” Why yes, yes I am!

The black sweatshirt I am wearing in the photo at the top of this post is my favorite go-to sweatshirt. My daughter stole the blue one I own from me, and she wears it all the time. Thankfully I still have this black one! This is another classic IT item worn by both teens and adults. It is cozy, comfortable, and washes well. Love it!

Can we have a moment to chat about this backpack? I know it’s a sports backpack with all the features needed for sports practices, hiking, and camping; but I have another use for it. This is my ultimate carry-on when I fly! The back of the backpack has some padding on it, which protects my laptop. Since there are two sections, I use the back one with the padding for my laptop, iPad, and cords. The front compartment holds my toiletries, a book, scarf, and other items I might carry on the plane. The smaller compartments hold smaller items such as my wallet, keys, ID, and more! It also fits perfectly underneath the seat in front of me whether I am flying coach, biz class, or first class. It’s the perfect size! Plus, it’s nice to have a backpack while navigating the airport!

In addition to using as a carry-on when I fly, I use my adidas backpack for camping (I am a girl scout troop leader), hiking, road trips, and anytime I need a backpack. It’s my workhorse bag-and you know I am a handbag/bag girl 😉 I prefer this backpack over a tote bag any day. Love it!

Emma Wood State Beach and hiking trail Ventura

Anytime we travel, we always try to work in at least one hike. Since we love hiking as a family, we always enjoy checking out the trails in a new place, and being able to see the local vegetation and terrain.

Ventura is nice little beach town, so we thought it would be fun to hike on a trail which paralleled the beach. Emma Wood State Park is a huge beach area off highway 101 which includes camping, and hiking trails. We decided to go on a really easy trail with the kids which we picked up at the group camp-grounds. The trail was paved, and it attracted many families on bikes, as well as serious bike riders. Walking on this trail wasn’t as peaceful as we thought it would be since we had to be very aware of the bike riders. If you are looking for a more serious hike, there are plenty of trails away from the beach. If you just want scenery, this is a great trail for beach views.

The total hike was about one mile. It parallels the beach, and the railroad tracks, which is fun if you have a child who loves trains! Although my kids are on the older side, they still enjoy seeing a train go by. We saw two trains pass while we were there, and the kids stopped to wave at it as it went by.

This beach has a lot of stick structures which beach-goers have made over time. It’s fun to sit inside one of the tee-pees or climb on the rocks which line the back of the beach. If you are along the coast in Ventura, this is a fun beach day! You can do an easy hike, enjoy the scenery, watch trains go by, and enjoy the beach! We even saw people fishing, so I assume you can do that too!

Stay tuned for more coverage from our road trip to Ventura!

Juggling back to school with multiple children

back to school tips multiple children schoolcool clothing middle school

On my kids: middle school boys outfit: green top / black shorts / high school girls outfit: athelisure dress / sneakers / middle school girls outfit: blue tee / black running shorts / sneakers /

I have three kids, who attend three different schools. This means multiple start times, multiple end times, and driving all over town! I am definitely a “Mom Taxi!” Ha ha! In order to ensure I can get all the kids to school on time, I need to plan ahead.

The first thing we did to prepare for back to school was to get the kids’ wardrobes in order. I don’t like to buy too much before the first day of school, because when the kids go back, they always realize they need specific items for their closets. I try to stick to buying the basics they need, and then purchase the ultimate IT items that are popular among the kids after they ask for these items. Here in our school district, adidas is the ultimate destination for IT items my kids need in their back to school wardrobes.

All of the girls in middle school and high school wear adidas superstar sneakers. They are the ultimate IT shoes for teen girls! The favorite color combo is black stripes, on a white shoe. You really cannot go back to school without those sneakers!

Another IT item for teenage girls is the adidas trefoil hoodie sweatshirt. Every teen girl needs this sweatshirt in her closet!  Knowing these two items are must-have’s for teen girls, I ensured both of my teenage daughters have them clean and ready for the first day of school. Even if it’s 80 degrees outside on the first day of school, those sweatshirts will be worn-at least around the waist! Ha ha!  A girl has to show she has the ultimate IT item on day one!

When it comes to boys, adidas is also a go-to brand! Boys are not as specific when it comes to clothing. They are more brand driven. My son is starting middle school this fall, so I made sure he was fully stocked with adidas shorts and tee’s. They are the ultimate sporty pieces a boy needs for middle school. My son is all set!

Once they have their wardrobes settled, I purchase the boring stuff such as binders, binder paper, pens, pencils, folders, etc. Then, I need to make sure I plan ahead for dropping my kids off all over town!

How to organize multiple drop-offs

The first thing I do to prepare my kids for school the next day is make their lunch. Then, I always make sure my kids have their backpacks packed before bedtime. This way they aren’t scrambling in the morning before school. In addition to packing their backpacks the night before, I make my kids pick out their outfit the night before too. This way the morning is spent washing up, getting dressed, and eating breakfast. I have a schedule to keep!

It’s important to pay attention to when the drop-off line at school gets busy in the morning. I always get to my children’s schools before the drop-off line gets long. This way I can quickly get through the line, and get over to the next school for drop-off without any delays. Once the drop-off line gets busy, anything could happen, and my schedule is bound to get thrown off!

I would say the rule of thumb is to drop off your child twenty minutes before the first bell. Most parents arrive roughly ten minutes before the first bell. That’s when the drop-off circle becomes a madhouse.

I drop off my kids in order of when the first bell rings. This means my high schooler is dropped off first, then my youngest, and lastly my middle child.

When it comes to pick-up after school, I use the opposite reasoning to pick-up my children. Parents start filling up the pick-up circle twenty-minutes before the bell. No way am I sitting in a long line, in a hot car, with my engine idling. I live five minutes from the high school, which is the first bell to ring. I leave the house five minutes after it rings, enabling me to arrive at the school with the line moving quickly. My car doesn’t idle, and I am able swiftly pick up my daughter. Love that!

This leaves ample time to swing over to my middle child’s school to pick her up, then drive quickly through the circle to pick up my son. Once you know the traffic patterns, you can figure out a system for picking up multiple kids, at multiple schools, without being late or leaving your engine idling in the hot sun.

It can be overwhelming to have multiple kids, in multiple schools. Don’t let it overwhelm you! Once you know the traffic patterns, you can easily beat the system, and make the pick-up/drop-off routine smooth and simple.

What are some of your tips for juggling multiple kids in multiple schools? Feel free to share in the comments below!
