Spring 2013 color forecasts from Pantone: Blue is the new Black

Pantone has given us a sneak peek into the color palette for spring 2013, and it is nothing short of fabulous! The colors forecasted for next year’s warm weather season are lively and vivacious; as described by Pantone.

Put on your sunglasses because designers are favoring florescent hues, pastel shades and many colors have become the “new neutrals.”

Here is a breakdown of what to expect in the color palette for spring and summer 2013:

  • Blue is the new black. Shades of blue will not be watered down, and they will be the base for many ensembles in the spring 2013 season.
  • Neutrals are being transformed and offering shades of color as opposed to being basic beige or sand.
  • Bright colors are still hot and will evolve with new color combinations put together in unexpected ways by designers.
  • Metallics are still important but will be found intertwined in fabrics and materials as opposed to 2012’s overt metallic trend.
  • Black is still relevant, although sidelined by blue for spring 2013. Black will be played with, and like fall 2012, the classic hue will be found in varied textures, materials and offered as depth rather than a flat shade.
  • Brown will be an alternative base color and will be used to compliment the colors of the season.

Wondering how to get a head start on the spring/summer 2013 color palette? While shopping the summer sales this month, look for florescent hues, shades of blue which are not watered down and textured fabrics in black. They will be great items for next year and will help you be ahead of the runway fashion curve.

Dressy wedges for outdoor summer events held on the lawn

Have you ever been to a formal event, held during the summer, outside, on a lawn? How many times have you worn your most fabulous Prada pumps and have found your heels sinking right into the lawn!? Well, it happens to the best of us-all the time! Thankfully, the summer 2012 season has brought out a huge trend in wedges, which in turn, has produced a large amount of formal and dressy wedges which are perfect for wearing to events held on the lawn!

Wedges are ingenious. Their design is perfect for keeping even the most shoe-addicted Fashionista flat on her feet while standing on the lawn-even if the grass is wet! Nothing ruins the party more than spending the entire time standing and walking on tip toe in order to avoid sinking into the lawn. Thankfully the metallic trend and the glittering shoe trend have transformed the traditional “picnic in the park” wedge into something any cocktail dress would be proud to be paired with!

Summer 2012 has brought us gold, silver and rose gold wedges in fabrications and materials such as glitter, sequins, crystals and metal mesh. Wedges have also popped up in more traditional evening fabrics such as satin which give the shoes a classic “with a twist” appeal.

Since there will be at least one summer event every year until the end of time held on the lawn, this is the perfect season to invest in at least one fabulous pair of formal or dressy wedges for that special wedding, fundraiser, fashion show or party held on mushy, wet grass!

When investing in a wedge you plan to keep in your closet for such an occasion, look for a neutral color such as black, white, brown, nude, gold, silver or rose gold. Also look for styles which transcend trends; and try to stay away from platform wedges which are difficult to walk in on hard surfaces.

Black leather leggings for fall 2012

With the rock n’ roll trend still prominent for the fall 2012 season, and studded shoes taking shoe department shelves by storm, it is no wonder that another hard rockin’ look is hot for the fall 2012 season; the black leather legging.

Black leather leggings are a staple for the fall 2012 wardrobe. The classic yet eye-catching pant is neutral and can easily be worn understated with a white shirt or spiced up with a bright colored top. Black leather leggings can be worn in full rock n’ roll style with studded motorcycle boots and a faded tee or dressed up into a classic, sophisticated look with high heels, a silk top and a clutch.

Black leather leggings also have their practical benefits when it comes to style. In addition to being hot and on-trend for the fall season, black leather leggings are easy to pack in a suitcase for travel and can be worn during the day or dressed up at night. Black leather leggings are also comfortable and warm, eliminating the need for a base layer in cold climates.

For fall 2012, black leather leggings are being shown in full, 100% leather, patched together with other black fabrics or shown in animal-friendly faux leather. Whichever fabrication you choose, make sure you try on several styles. Black leather leggings should be body conscious; they should not be difficult to sit in or look like they hurt-if you catch my drift
