Although fabulous pumps, platforms and strappy high heels look amazing and make us feel fabulous, they really are not appropriate all of the time. There are times when <gasp> even the most fabulous Fashionista needs to sport a pair of dazzling flats. After all, sometimes we do un-fabulous things such as going to the supermarket, pumping gas into our cars and possibly chasing our small children through a parking lot! (hopefully that last part doesn’t happen to you!)

Thankfully there are many fabulous and dazzling flats on store shelves for the fall 2012 season. The rocker-chic trend has brought us studded flats for fall while the sparkle trend has brought us crystal encrusted flats! The kitsch trend has brought us flats with critter faces from designers such as Marc Jacobs and Charlotte Olympia. There are also brightly colored flats, color blocked flats and <meow!> leopard print flats. Love this!

There are so many fabulous flats on the market this fall 2012 season; one has to wonder which pair to pick! And this could cut into our high heel budget; just a warning

Jewel tone shoes for fall 2012

Jewel tones are a huge color trend this fall 2012 season and one of the fun and fabulous ways to wear these rich hues is on shoes! Another reason wearing jewel tone shoes for fall 2012 is fabulous is that many of these hues have already appeared on the spring 2013 runways! Love that!

Fall 2012 jewel tones include red, burgundy, green/emerald, blue and purple. These cool tones look amazing on any style of shoe, but for fall 2012, the hottest way to wear jewel tone shoes is either in the forms of flats or classic, flirty pumps.

There are many styles of flats for fall 2012. In jewel tones, look for smoking slippers and ballet style flats. When it comes to pumps, you cannot go wrong with a pointy toe, platform or flat sole. Look for colors that you feel blend into your current wardrobe and will give you most the mileage over the course of the fall and winter seasons. Colors such as red, purple and teal will also carry into early spring 2013, so these could be good investment colors.

New York Fashion Week spring 2013 trends from the runways

New York Fashion Week ended last week and left Fashionistas everywhere with something to covet for the spring/summer 2013 season. The overall looks from designers offered colorful combinations on soft fabrics. There was a 1960’s vibe and hemlines dropped below the knee. Shoes were lower to the ground and toes got a little pointy. Handbags were either classic and structured or soft in the form of a hobo. Some designers opted for neutral hues while others continued with bright colors into the New Year. There were prints, florals and playful patterns. A little bit of kitsch remained on the runway for 2013 and styles were a little more casual than what was shown in 2012.
