Drumroll please . . . the color of 2019 has arrived! The new color we all will covet in the new year is “Living Coral!” On Thursday, December 6, 2018 Pantone announced the new color of the year for 2019. The newest color in fashion and interior design is Living Coral.

Living Coral was one of the top 12 colors for the spring/summer 2019 on the New York Fashion Week runways last September. So, it is no surprise that one of the top 12 colors from the spring 2019 runways has become the ultimate color of the year for all four seasons in 2019.

Unlike the color of 2018 which was a purple that transcended seasons, Living Coral is a very spring/summer hue. It is much more playful and spirited than the colors of the year we have seen lately. This color is engaging, and draws you in.

According to Pantone, we will see Living Coral used for eyes, cheeks, hair and nails in the coming year. (photo courtesy of Pantone)

Living Coral is a color found in nature. It symbolizes the need to preserve the earth. If you think about coral, it is a color seen in sunsets, oceans, and nature in general. In the ocean, it is a color that protects other colors; coral reefs are home to many vividly colored sea creatures. This is a warm, soft orange with golden undertones, which according to Pantone, “. . . energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”

When it comes to fashion, Living Coral can be seen as a vintage hue being revived. Although versions of coral began popping up on the 2016, 2017, and 2018 runways, it really took center in fashion during the 1960’s and 1980’s. For 2019, we are seeing it in both women and men’s fashions as it returns to center stage. This color is being used as the focal point of a design, as well as accent hue in accessories. It’s everywhere!

I believe we will see it more in the spring, summer, and resort collections, then fall and winter; although it has been spotted on cold weather runways already. I find it very unexpected for cold weather fashion, so it will be fun to see how the color progresses throughout the year in fashion. Although, Living Coral would pair nicely in the fall and winter with chocolate brown or dark beige. It should be fun to see if designers use it on the fall/winter 2019/20 runways coming up in February 2019!

What do you think of Living Coral for 2019? Is this a color you see yourself wearing or decorating your home with? You can learn more at Pantone.com.

Rose turtleneck sweater on a cool winter day

rose turtleneck sweatersan jose street style winter 2018 brahmin bagturtleneck sweater outfit ideas

wearing: silver disc earrings / sunglasses / lipstick / rose turtleneck sweater / necklace (sold out, also love this one) / green and silver ring / holiday nail polish / jeans (sold out, also love this pair) / handbag / boots /

I finally found the perfect turtleneck sweater for winter! Three cheers! There are so many cute turtleneck sweaters on the market this season. It makes it difficult to pick just one! I was thrilled when I found this rose turtleneck sweater for winter. It is super soft, the color is really pretty, and it was priced well under $100. Love that!

While many things in my closet can last a few decades, sweaters don’t last too long in my world. My handbags get caught in the yarn, my kids accidentally get caught in the yarn, things randomly get stuck in the yarn. . . do you see a pattern? I’m always finding holes, or getting stuck on things when I wear a sweater! So, when I was looking around for a turtleneck sweater this season, I wanted something that didn’t have super loose knitting, and was also reasonable in price. I am so happy I found this one!

The knit is not loose, yet it is really soft and cozy. The turtleneck is chunky, and keeps my neck covered and warm. The hi-lo hemline gives it a little bit of an unexpected silhouette, and the color is pretty. Who could ask for anything more?

I paired my new sweater with my favorite jeans from the Nordstrom sale last August. They are really comfortable and flattering. I wish they still sold them; and in more colors! I would grab a pair in every color if they made more colors!

Vintage brooch and plaid coat

wearing: sunglasses / lipstick / ivory, cz, and silver earrings / red turtleneck sweater (last seen here) / plaid coat (under $100!) (last seen here) / belt (vintage Prada, also love this one) / dark wash skinny jeans / vintage brooch c. 1960s (also love this green one) / Gucci bag / holiday nail polish / black ring / black rain boots /

Disclaimer: I broke my own cardinal fashion rule; never wear red and green together because you will look like a Christmas tree! Ugh! So, what did I do on the morning I planned to meet my friend Dawn for breakfast at Santana Row? I pinned my green vintage brooch to my coat and threw it over a red turtleneck. What was I thinking???

When I looked at these photos a few days later, I took a deep breath. I look like a Christmas tree, but somehow, it’s OK since it is the Christmas/Holiday season! Any other time of year, and I would go for a clear stone brooch with this outfit. Now that my looong explanation of my red and green together is done, let’s chat about this brooch!

This brooch was my Mothers’. Around the turn of the century, I was in a huge brooch mood. My Mom, who loves jewelry, had a fabulous collection of brooches from the 1960s that she bought when they were all the rage. I raided her stash, and she gave me two of her brooches! I couldn’t believe it. I was so grateful! She never got back into the brooch look, so she is happy the two I took are getting some use.

I love vintage jewelry and accessories. I also have a few vintage clothing pieces which I am too afraid to wear. If something were to happen to them, how would I replace them? It would be impossible! At least with accessories and jewelry they are easy to clean and keep nice.

This brooch is my favorite vintage brooch from my Mom’s collection. Its’ stones are crystal clear, and they sparkle so much! The green is a beautiful hue, and I love the design. My daughters love it too; someday they will be able to split the vintage brooch collection, and I am thrilled that they appreciate vintage and understand how special it is in the world of fashion.
