The 2000s bag trends that are hot now

2000s bag trends hot summer 2022

Remember those bags you coveted back in the early 2000s? They’re back! So crawl into the back of your closet and pull out your archives, because they are hotter than hot this year!

There are a few late 1990s, and early 2000s IT bags which are back with a vengeance this year, in addition to overall handbag trends. Remember the Balenciaga City Tote aka “moto bag?” It’s back, and if you cannot get your hands on a vintage one, Balenciaga has a new version with slightly inverted sides you can purchase now, and rock as if it were the original.

Remember the Dior Saddle bag? It has been popular again for the past few seasons, and it is holding steady as an IT bag to own now. If you don’t have one from back in the day, Dior has a few sizes, colors, and fabrications to choose from today. The common complaint I hear from Saddle bag owners is that everything in the bag falls to one side, if you don’t mind that, this could be your bag.

In addition to specific IT bags from close to twenty years ago, the early 2000s gave us several handbag trends which are hot again this year. Remember oversize handbags you could carry a small child inside? They are back, and the hottest one on the streets this year is from YSL. See above graphic.

The other trends to watch for include nylon bags from Prada, Bowler bags (I love Dior’s version), all types and sizes of hobos bags, baguettes (doesn’t have to be Fendi), classic Chanel bags (think flap and 2.55), and the Chloe Marcie in any style; saddle or satchel. Love!

What was your favorite handbag trend from the very late 1990s and early 2000s? My favorites include the baguette, Chloe Marcie, hobo bags, and nylon bags.

Quick shout-out to nylon bags; they can be worn in the rain! Love a bag I don’t have to worry about during inclement weather.

Thanks for stopping by!

As you know, spring 2022 is all about smaller handbags, and lots of colors! In addition to small and colorful, we are looking at handbag styles for spring 2022 which can be found in many of our closets. The hottest handbag trends for spring 2022 include the bucket, the small tote, top handle bags, the continuation of the pouch and the hobo handbag.

Since I was a huge bucket bag fan seven to eight years ago when the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag reached its insane IT bag status, I knew I had this trend in my closet to shop. While spring 2022 is bringing us new versions of the bucket bag, I prefer to stick with the classic that I already own. I decided for spring 2022, I would pull my pink bucket bag out of the back of my closet. I have found myself reaching for it often already! It’s so easy to wear and has fabulous interior capacity. Plus, the light pink hue freshens up a foggy day and adds a touch of spring to my overall look; even in my workout cloths. haha Mansur Gavriel has a lot of really pretty colors in stock for spring, just in case you didn’t invest in one the first time around. You can see them all here.

The small tote bag is a great returning trend too. I had this blue tote bag in the back of my closet, and it’s still in stores! I love how small tote bags give the illusion of being a small handbag but are actually quite roomy inside. The cross body strap on most small totes comes in handy too. Love that!

This fabulous yellow tote was from Coach’s spring 2022 runway. They released a small batch right during New York Fashion Week, but plan to release more very soon. I will keep you updated for their in-stock return! In the meantime, they do have larger versions of this classic tote online. I love the neutral hues and the green.

The hobo bag and the pouch are continuing to be hot in 2022. So, if you already invested in these two styles, keep wearing them! If you don’t have a hobo yet, you can still invest in one, they will stick around awhile. Love!

Well, since there are two types of handbags I am loving right now; I had to split them into two photos by type! The top photo is my hobo bag capsule wardrobe, and the bottom is my pouch bag capsule. These are the two handbag styles I am loving to wear this winter season.

The handbag trends we will see this winter 2022 season will include hobo bags, pouch bags, small totes, bucket bags, and micro-mini bags; and as we move into warmer weather in the spring season, we will see more straw bags-just like last year! So, for right now, in the winter season, I am rocking the hobo bag trend, and the pouch bag trend. Love them!

Structured and slouchy hobos are everything right now. So, I have a mix of both styles, as well as differing colors. I hope to add an ivory hobo to my collection soon. I also have a mix of pouch bags for both casual and dressier occasions. I love having different colors and sizes, it helps mix it up. I love the pouch bag trend, it’s fun!
