happy new year

Goodbye 2017 and hello to 2018

floral sneakers / statement earrings (I have these in blue and love them!)

The end of 2017 is near! This means we can wave goodbye to the fashion trends we loathed, as well as might be a little sad to see go. At the same time, we can welcome in new trends from the runways, and the streets, for 2018! We may love some, and then, we may be skeptical of others; um is anyone else frightened of the fanny pack? Can it go the way of fetch? But I digress. . .

Goodbye 2017 trends

Greenery: Ah, green, where did you go? Like leaves fall off the trees in the autumn months, you disappeared with the start of the winter frost.

Bangles: Well, I loved this bangle trend, but it sure was fleeting! It didn’t even last through summer. Ah well, onto the next!

Ear crawlers, and multiple earring piercings: Like the 90’s, this trend is like, so over. Single pair moving forward ladies!

Loud Logos: We get it, It’s Gucci. We get it, it’s Louis Vuitton. And yes, we can see it’s Chanel. Now stop telling all the muggers what you’re wearing. 2017 is so over, and so are logos; return them to the swap meet.

Guitar Straps: Well, that was fast. This never really made it from the runway to the streets. Keep the strap your bag came with, it’s classic, chic, and not so fleeting.

Hello 2018 trends

Fanny packs: Kill me now.

Ultra-Violet: This is the most beautiful shade of purple! In 2018, you aren’t limited to just this shade of purple, light and dark purple will be your friends too. Love this hue!

Trench Coats: This classic, chic topper is back! Pull out that Burberry trench from storage, it’s hotter then hot in the new year.

Clutches: The daytime clutch is back! Please thank it for saving us from the fanny pack.

Small floral prints: Florals are so ground-breaking, AmIRight? For 2018 they are! Tight and small floral prints are all the rage in 2018. You can store your large floral prints, they are so last year.

Pencil skirts: Oh yes, this skirt from your old office suit in the 1990s is returning with a vengeance in 2018. Practice the walk ladies, and wiggle it, just a little bit. 😉 (please don’t laugh if I fall, my wiggle is out of practice! haha)

Dresses: This feminine staple is back. Simplicity is key in 2018. This is the continuing menswear trends’s yang, to it’s ying. Stock up on dresses-stat!

There you have it! The trends we are leaving behind, and a sample of  the new trends we are looking forward to in 2018, well, excluding the fanny pack. For a laugh, check out this post from last year.

Which fashion trends are you excited to leave behind? Which ones are you looking forward to in the new year?

Happy New Year!

XOXO

Cathy

Happy New Year 2017!

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy New Year!

2016 was quite a year wasn’t it! There were really great things that happened, and really sad, unfortunate events which occurred.

So many well-loved celebrities that made artistic contributions to our cultural society, resulting in significant impacts over the years, were lost in 2016.

Some people loved the results of our Presidential election, others thought the world would end.

Our fight for a cleaner, more sustainable environment suffered some losses, but also gained some important wins.

That was 2016 in a nutshell.

2017 will be a very different year. As with any year, some will love it, others will count down the seconds to 2018, Whatever your beliefs, or expectations for the year, let’s just say “Cheers!”

Now, this is a fashion, style, and beauty blog. So let’s chat about the fun stuff!!

In 2016 I had a few resolutions. I only shared one on the blog; which was to lose fifteen pounds and workout more. I can proudly say I lost ten of those pounds, but I didn’t work out more; I worked out less. I lost the weight over the summer when I had the time to get myself to the gym five days per week. Sigh.

My other resolution, which I never shared on the blog, was to not leave all my tax day prep for the week before my taxes are due! Yes, I am one of those last minute people who is frantically sending off her taxes, and that check, less then five days before it is due. It has only caused a few small heart-attacks. I am proud to say I did it! I am prepared to file my taxes right now, today! All I need to do, is to wait for my 1099’s and W2. Then voila! I can file them early! Do a little dance!!

Now, let’s talk about 2017.  Here are my 2017 New Year resolutions!

  1. Lose ten pounds through diet and exercise
  2. Schedule four gym sessions per week, and stick to it!
  3. Switch from a sticker based rewards system for my kids, to a cash allowance based system integrated with the chore chart.
  4. Eat less sugar, eat more vegetables

Well, that is all I can think of right now. Which resolution’s worked for you in 2016? What are your new resolutions for 2017?

Have a Happy New Year!

Goodbye 2016 and hello to the trends of 2017

turquoise statement necklace / zebra stripe loafers / Gucci slides in black / mixed metal bangles

The time has come to bid farewell to 2016. It was a quite a year indeed! Some fashion trends were fabulous, while others . . .hmmmm . . . not so much. Here is a guide to help know what you need to store in the back of your closet, and what you to buy for your closet.

Goodbye 2016!

Rose Quartz/Serenity: Gone are the days when the color of the year has share the title. Mixing baby blue and pink is so year. Buh-bye!

Statement necklaces: While some classic versions will be having their place in the new year, the statement necklace is over.

Earring jackets: This 1980s trend came and went faster than you can “What?” Did you notice it? It was pretty quiet. Store them in your jewelry box for the next time your friends host a 1980s-themed soiree.

Shoes with backs: Covered heels are so 2016. Buff and moisturize your heels, they will be shown off in the new year.

Standard handbag straps: Is that strap your handbag came with still on your bag? That’s so last year. Switch out that strap with a funky guitar strap.

Knee length, a-line skirts: Gone are the days of your hemline hitting at your knees. That’s so 2016. In 2017, it’s all about mini’s, maxi’s or asymmetrical hems which have a length you cannot define.

Hello 2017!

Greenery: 2017 is all about going green! Think calm, natural, and mixed in prints. That’s right! Although the color of the years gets to enjoy the title alone, it is not a solid color. Greenery is part of something bigger, it is part of a print.

Layered and delicate necklace: 2017 is all about the uptick in the delicate, layered necklace trend. While not a new trend, it will enjoy its moment in the spotlight in 2017. Layer up guys!

Bangles: Jungle jangle it’s all about the bangle! Lightly layer up your arms with gold bangles. 2017 isn’t about 1980s, Madonna bangles up the arm, it is about 1-3, high quality bangles which are classic yet eye-catching.

Statement earrings: Since your neck won’t have a statement, your ears will! Look for big and bold earrings in the new year.

Layered earrings: While one trend is to wear gigantic, statement earrings, another is to wear delicate earrings in multiple holes on your ear. Yes, this is a late 1980s, early 1990s trend. Go retro!

Stripes: This is the hottest trend since sliced bread. 2017 is all about stripes, stripes, and more stripes! The hottest types of stripes are horizontal and mis-matched.

Slides: Your shoes should not have backs. I repeat, your shoes should not have backs.

Mixed media handbags: Handbags in 2017 are leather mixed with suede, geometric patterns, floral prints, stuck with “stickers,” and the list goes on. If it isn’t plain, it’s hot!

Street sneakers: If you don’t own a pair of Addidas yet, your entire closet is so last year. Get a pair here, or get left behind.

Denim everything: Everything on your body should be denim. Your skirt, your shirt, your dress, your shoes, your handbag; and if you can find denim underwear-wear that too! Denim people. Denim.

There you have it! If you are looking for a laugh, check out my 2015 into 2016 out with the old, in with the new post.

What trends did you love or hate in 2016? What are looking forward to in 2017?

Happy New Year!
