There are so many fashion and style trends hitting the streets this fall 2023 season. In order to sort through the fleeting trends, and the ones that will stick, I have curated them and identified the top style and fashion trends for the fall 2023 season into this post.

This fall season continues to showcase understated and chic style. Timeless pieces working in a fashion forward way will be the hottest trend of the season. You may find many of these trends in your closet, making it easy to just add a couple of new pieces for the fall season to update your overall look. This season is the super bowl for investment dressing and understated style. This is your season!

After you read, identify the trends you love which will work with your lifestyle, and then shop! That’s the fun part right?

So, without further ado, here are the hottest fashion and style trends for the fall 2023 season!

Fall color trends

Vibrant colors are hot for fall! You will see several shades of green, blue, red, neutrals, and pink. Pink was picked up after the announcement of the Barbie movie, so while not dominant on the runways, this sweet hue is hot on the streets. Look for pinks to continue into early fall; just don’t overbuy this color as it will fade as we move deeper into the fall season.

Traditional autumn hues are hot too! Look for darker green, deep shades of red, and rich browns. Black is hot too, but I just stated the obvious, right?

Fall shoe trends

Fall shoes are a little bit more fun this year! Look for classic loafers, loafer mules, loafer pumps, and anything that tries to be a loafer. The Mary Jane is also back. We saw a little bit of a resurgence last year, but this year, Mary Janes are everywhere. If you have a pair in your archives, pull them forward!

Sweet little ballet flats are popular again this fall season. This is a classic shoe style you might already own! If so, pull them forward. If not, snap up a pair, unless you need a lot of arch support, then skip this trend. Ballet flats tend to not have a lot of foot support.

When it comes to boots, your closet might already be in good shape! Lug soles, utility style boots and western style boots are still hot. Keep those styles and wear them again this fall.

Fall jewelry trends

This fall, look for hoop earrings, classic jewelry pieces, and colorful stones. Fun colors are hot for fall, so if you have semi-precious jewelry sitting around, bring it forward! This is the season to spice up your classic ensemble with some colorful gems, classic silver bracelets, and chic hoops.

Fall clothing trends

Classic and understated style is tops for fall! Look for the continuation of the power suit, blazers over jeans, and matching sets. In addition to workwear, and structured style, look for wide leg pants, slim denim pencil skirts, the return of the classic wrap dress, and denim on denim.

Investment dressing is key as the so-called “quiet luxury” trend continues. If you are an investment dresser, this trend is silly, but to those who follow trends, this means toning down looks, shelving logos, and going for a clean aesthetic.

The denim jacket is hot for fall as well. In addition, denim is trending cleaner, so steer clear of tears, rips and distressed denim pieces.

When it comes to hemlines, look for ankle length and mini hemlines, with the exception of the denim pencil skirt which will hit mid-calf.

It is that that time of year again when fall starts hitting store shelves! This means you may have the urge to start stocking up on all the shiny new fall merchandise popping up everywhere. Before you dive right in, make sure you aren’t duplicating what you already own! The first thing you need to shop for fall is your closet!

If you are wondering how to shop your closet for fall 2023, you have come to the right place. Shopping your closet can be just as much fun as shopping in a store. You never know what you might find! So, block your calendar, make sure your air conditioner or fan is hitting your closet and get to work.

The first thing you want to do in your closet is empty out anything you don’t wear. If this seems overwhelming, do it in steps. I also sort my shoes first, then my clothing. This seems to make it easier. If you have any shoes which hurt your feet or you are wondering why in the world you own them, decide if they have resale value or if they should go in the donation pile. Then, start pulling the shoes forward in your closet which are hot right now and in style for the fall season.

What to look for in your closet when it comes to shoes. Western style footwear is still hot, so bring them back out from the back of your closet. Also pull out your Mary Janes, Ballet Flats, Classic Loafers, Lug Sole Boots, Classic Pumps, Street Sneakers, and utility style boots. Everything else can be stored in the back of your closet for a future season.

Now let’s sort clothing! Again, pull out anything that doesn’t fit correctly, or you don’t like anymore. Sort them into a donation pile and resale pile. Then, let’s rotate your closet!

If it seems daunting, go in this order. Start with your denim collection. Rips, tears, and heavy distress are over. Pull forward your wide leg jeans, flare jeans, straight leg jeans, and trouser leg jeans. You can keep your favorite skinny’s but put them at the bottom of the denim pile or store them in the back of your closet. Looser denim styles are still trending for fall 2023. Autumn colors are trending too. If you have shades of brown, black, or burgundy, pull those jeans out too.

Talking about pants, let’s keep going! For your non-denim pants, look for classic cute, straight leg, and wide leg. Again, skinny styles should get stored. Trousers paired with a blouse or sweater are hot for fall both in the workplace and on casual days paired with street sneakers. Pull those styles forward!

Speaking of sweaters and shirts, they are both hot for fall and well into winter. You can wear cropped sweaters, oversized sweaters, cardigans, turtlenecks, all of the above! If you have sweaters which look worn or were discovered by moths, recycle them, otherwise, pull forward your favorite sweaters and rock them this fall. Button down shirts worn loosely and oversized are also hot for fall. Pull those shirts forward too!

Powersuits are still hot. Keep your power suits and keep rocking them this fall!

Also, tweed blazers over jeans are still hot this fall season, so keep those in the front of your closet to wear instead of outerwear when the weather is mild or cool. Love them!

When it comes to outerwear, look for trench coats in your closet, peacoats, and the jackets you wear on the ski slope. Outerwear is being shown in both fun colors and neutrals, so enjoy!

Handbags are staying anonymous and when it comes to size, anything goes. Look for high quality investment bags, hobo bags, shoulder bags, totes, and Lady Bags in your closet. Pull them forward and store your logo bags.

One of the big trends coming up for fall is the pencil skirt. You might have some in the back of your closet, if so, bring them forward! Denim pencil skirts are hot too!

Look for the fall IT colors in your closet as well. In addition to neutrals and black, look for shades of red, green, and pink.

The fall 2023 handbag trends have arrived! While the runways offered many fun handbag styles for the fall and winter seasons, the streets are shying away from kitschy shapes, faux fur and fuzzy bags, as well as overly oversized totes and hobos. Instead, the streets remain slightly more understated and anonymous, as well as classic.

As interest rates rise, shoppers are tending to reach for timeless styles as opposed to one-season-wonders. This is helping to drive the trend towards eschewing trends. Instead, the fashionable set is favoring high quality handbags which are timeless and durable, i.e. high quality, sustainable and offer style longevity.

Therefore, we are eyeing five front runners for IT bag status from the current range of handbag trends. So, without further ado, here are the top five fall 2023 handbag trends to invest in and love well past the fall 2023 season. Love that!

The Anonymous Handbag: Groundbreaking right? You already knew this before you opened this article, so keep your head high and continue to rock your anonymous handbag for the rest of the year and beyond.

The Lady Bag: The top handle handbag is a tried and true classic, which could be why it is exploding this fall season. If you prefer two handles over one, you can rock that too! They are both relevant. Look for an investment style in a neutral or black hue. This is a handbag you will wear forever. Or, perhaps you already own one! If so, take it out of the archives and get it into rotation stat!

Slouchy bags/Hobo bags: The hobo bag is still going strong! You can continue to wear your structured or slouchy hobo bag. When looking at slouchy styles, look for thick and buttery leather which feels like it could melt in your hands. It’s all about high quality and longevity.

Shoulder bags: The classic shoulder bag continues to go strong! You can look at adjustable straps which can be worn cross body as well as embroidered straps, classic leather straps and chains. The chain strap is a classic and popular strap for the shoulder bag. Look for thinner chains, the chunky chain is over.

Slouchy tote bags: A structured tote is all well and good, but a slouchy and luscious tote is best. Look for high quality, butter-like leather in a large and slouchy tote. You can wear it to work, for travel, or anything! Totes are amazing and versatile. Go slouchy!
