Beauty secrets from Marchesa’s New York Fashion Week runway

Marchesa showed a stunning collection for the fall/winter 2012/2013 season during New York Fashion Week. Equally stunning were the models that walked the runway with natural faces and slightly metallic eyes.

The make-up at Marchesa’s New York Fashion Week show was done by Talia Shobrook for Laura Mercier and she has shared her backstage secrets with us! The following text was written and provided by Laura Mercier Cosmetics:

INSPIRATION

Marchesa’s Fall 2012 collection found inspiration in William Adolphe Bouguereaus’ famed 1878 portrait, “A Soul Brought to Heaven.” The classically angelic figures in the painting were brought to life in the collection through frothy tulles, embroidered brocades and pleated silks.

Talia Shobrook, the lead makeup artist for the show, drew from the otherworldly etherealness of the collection to create a makeup look that was “my vision of an angel, brought to life through a luminous palette.”

FACE

Shobrook stated “iridescent, porcelain skin was the foundation of the look and evoked the untouched perfection of angels.”

  • Talia first moisturized the skin with Laura Mercier Mega-Moisturizer Crème

LIPS

  • Talia then “applied a cherubic lip, with a stained effect to modernize the look.”
  • Talia mixed Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Merlot and Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Haute Red (NEW: Available Fall 2012) and applied to the center of the mouth
  • She then pressed in the color with her fingertips to allow the pigment to bleed outwards

Belts for the spring 2012 season

This spring season, silhouettes have become less constricting and many dresses have less structure than in past seasons. This has made the belt incredibly important as it is one of the few ways to create a waistline on a dress. Many dresses are offering a loose top and body conscious skirt with a thin, elastic waistline; this begs and pleads for a belt-and not just any belt, a fabulous belt!

Belts for the spring season are available in every thickness and fabrication imaginable. There are Kimono belts in solid colors and color blocking as well as traditional belts which boast a large buckle. Many belts are elastic with a hidden closure which works really well on dresses and offer timeless appeal.

When adding a belt to a dress, or long top, it is important to look for the right style. If the dress or top offers a loud print and multiple colors, it would be wise to look for a solid colored belt which matches the fabric or is in a neural which blends well with the color combination. If you are belting a solid colored garment, look for a color blocked kimono belt or buckle belt. Solid colored garments also look fabulous with complicated woven belts and texture.

We found a few different styles of belts through Polyvore and created the set below. Happy shopping and stay fabulous

Pastel jewelry for the spring 2012 season

Paris designers, and select designers from around the globe, gave the fashion world a pastel color palette for the spring 2012 season. This has made pastels the hottest alternative to bright colors for the spring 2012 season. One of the easiest ways to incorporate pastels into your daily wardrobe is through pastel colored gemstones and jewelry. With pastel purple and pink continuing from spring 2012 into the fall season, this is the perfect time to invest in pastel gems to wear now and into next year.

There are so many pastel gemstones on the market. Almost any pastel hue can be found in natural gemstones including pale green amethyst, baby blue chalcedony, lavender chalcedony, light green chalcedony, rose quartz, opals and more.

What makes pastel gemstones fabulous is that they are an investment and can be worn for generations; making pastel jewelry a smart way to invest in the current “Paris Pastel” trend for spring. Pastel gemstones can be found set in sterling silver, gold and many different types of metal; making the gemstones accessible at any price point.

Designers have been showing colorful and bold jewelry on the runways in New York for fall 2012, so this is not the time to be afraid of adding colorful jewelry to your collection. We found a few pastel gems around the web through Polyvore and assembled them into the set below. Hope you love it!
