Over the weekend, my husband and I took the kids to the de Young Museum in San Francisco. We have taken them to the Children’s Discovery Museum, The Tech Museum, and the Legion of Honor; but this was our first trip to the fabulous de Young! It was nice to take the kids to the de Young since both my husband and I remember our own parents taking us to de Young Museum when we were kids. We love being able to pass the experience on to our kids.

My kids favorite art pieces inside the museum included the early American silver service, the early American chairs, any painting with kids in it, the civil war era fireplace, the observation tower, and Keith Haring’s “untitled (three figures dancing)” which was located outside the building. Of course, they also loved the cookies in the cafe, and the books in the gift shop!

The pictures I took, shown above, were taken from both the ground, and the observation tower inside the de Young Museum. How amazing is the living roof atop the California Academy of Sciences!!

If you are local to the Bay Area, or visiting San Francisco, the de Young Museum is a must-see! Locals and tourists alike enjoy the important exhibits, and overall experience at the museum. To learn more about the de Young Museum, please visit their website online here.

New York Fashion Week outfit day five

On the fifth day of fashion week, the temperature rose from single digits, to a warm and cozy 20-something. (Insert sarcastic tone) It was freezing; let’s be frank. I kept myself bundled up in layers and felt perfectly comfortable in this outfit on the fifth day.

I absolutely adore this skirt by Diane Von Furstenberg. It is part of her spring 2015 collection, so I am looking forward to wearing it more often this spring, and into the summer season.

This bracelet by Kendra Scott is a new favorite of mine. Since blue is my favorite color, and shades of blue are popular for the upcoming spring and summer seasons, I know this bracelet will be worn almost everyday; it already is being worn almost everyday! Kendra Scott also has other pastels for spring in her collection including pink and mint green. Love that!

I was a little disappointed in the color palette for the fall 2015 season. There was hardly any blue! Of course there was classic autumn navy on the runways, but not very much blue. So, I am definitely going to try and get my blue fill this spring and summer! What is your favorite color to wear?

I wore this outfit at New York Fashion on day three. I knew I would be visiting Kendra Scott’s showroom that day, and I wanted to wear an outfit designed around my favorite new necklace by Kendra Scott; just purchased in January! I absolutely love the bright color, and bold design, of this classic necklace by Kendra Scott. I had to design an outfit which would be all about the necklace, and would really show off the beautiful, bright color. I loved this black and white dress by Kate Spade and found it would be the perfect backdrop for the necklace. Since I knew I would be wearing these black and white, lug sole high heels by BCBG in New York, I thought it would be fun to color block the whole look black and white; while still allowing the bright hue of the necklace to shine through.

The weather in New York was beyond cold. As a “born and raised” NorCal girl, I felt like I had fallen into the frozen tundra; never to return! So, on my first, and second day, in New York, I bundled up in black pants (different pair each day!) and my coat. I wore my flat, lug sole boots by Donald J Pliner which I scored on sale, and wrapped myself in a scarf. It was cozy and comfy; perfect to combat the single digit temperatures! By day three I had acclimated which resulted in pulling out my heels and dressing up!

It was interesting to see all the people standing outside Lincoln Center either waiting for friends, or hoping to get their picture taken by street style photographers. Many of them were not wearing warm clothing; some even had bare legs! I guess when someone is from a cold climate, the wind chill doesn’t bother them. Not this California girl! I was frozen like a popsicle! I found myself walking really fast from the hotel to the shows; as well as from cabs to off-site shows. Brrr!

Well, I survived, and even wore tights three days in a row! Three cheers for avoiding frostbite!!

How do you survive the cold temperatures when you are traveling? Do you acclimate easily?

Stay tuned! In a few days I will post Kendra Scott’s beautiful spring 2015 collection; as well as give you a sneak peek at her amazing summer collection which will debut in April.
