Marcel Ostertag showed his fall/winter 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week on February 11, 2016 at the Skylight Clarkson. The fall 2016 collection, took it’s inspiration from a common weather trait of the autumn season; rain.

The “rain” theme was apparent throughout the show. Marcel Ostertag used the rain theme on his sweaters which featured large raindrops. There were also rain slicker plastic inserts blocked into many of the skirts on the runway. This gave “rain” an entire new imagine; one that is cool, rather than wet. Love that!

Marcel Ostertag used texture and fabric blocking throughout his collection, using fabrics on skirts and dresses which unexpected, and fresh. The mix of texture on many of the skirts added a sophisticated yet playful vibe which was a fresh take on standards skirts; and rain gear.

The color palate, which was mainly light blue, grey, navy, and burgundy, evoked a fall feeling of grey skies, light blue rain water, evening sky navy, and burgundy leaves. The colors were cohesive with the theme, and helped complete the collection. Even the sequins were arranged like rain drops, which danced as the models moved down the runway.

I am in love with the trench coats, everything blue, and the fabulous long burgundy gown pictured above. Which pieces are your favorite from the collection?

Lace trench coat for spring

new york fashion week street style givenchy antigona nyfw street style lace trench nyfw street style how to dress for nyfw in february express lace trench coat transition from winter into spring

Pictured: Sunglasses: Chanel / Earrings: Kendra Scott / Scarf: Banana Republic (old, similar here on sale!) / Lace Trench Coat: Express (spring coat styled for cold winter weather-great transitional piece!) / Sweater: Banana Republic / Handbag: Givenchy / Rings: Kendra Scott / Nail Polish: c/o Dolce & Gabbana Bonbon / Leggings: Lysse / Booties: Sam Edelman

When I spotted this lace trench coat at Express, I knew I had to have it! It is perfect to wear now, and into the spring season. Since I love this lace trench coat so much, I decided to wear it on day one of New York Fashion Week.

Since the weather in New York for fashion week was in the 20’s, I needed to style this spring trench coat for cold, winter temperatures. Since it is a long sleeve, trench coat, it was easy to layer over a sweater, and thick, warm leggings. I love how this lace trench coat can transition from winter into spring! It will look so cute in the spring over a skirt, or a black dress. It would also look amazing over a bright, solid color dress!

I started the day off by meeting my friend Rita at Samba Sushi for lunch. It is a Peruvian/Japanese fusion restaurant. I never thought those two flavors could mix; but they do! The food was fabulous. If you are in the SoHo area of New York, definitely check it out! You will love it!

Day one of New York Fashion Week was cold, but very exciting! I started the day off by attending one of my favorite shows; Marissa Webb. Her show was fabulous. I loved the texture, the fabrics, the coats, and especially the booties! Oh the booties are number one on my fall 2016 wish list!

After Marissa Webb, I attended A Detacher. This was a cutting edge collection with cozy knits, warm hats, and butterfly sleeves! I loved the collection, Watch for my write-up on the blog soon!

I finished out the day with Marcel Ostertag. I had a second row seat, but ended up getting bumped up to the front row! It was an amazing view. I love his coats, and how he works with sequins. His pieces have so much movement and dimension. Watch for my write-up on his collection soon too!

If you are looking for a great piece to take you from winter into spring, definitely check out this lace trench coat. It is perfect to wear now; and into the spring season!

Travel outfit to New York Fashion Week

what to wear on an airplane in the winter air travel outfit idea

Pictured: Sunglasses: Chanel / Earrings: Kendra Scott (new for spring!) / Lipstick: Chanel Mighty / Sweater: Banana Repubic (on sale!!) / Coat: Topshop (under $200!!) / Jeans: Gap / Rings: Kendra Scott / Nail Polish: Dior Bleuette / Booties: Sam Edelman / Handbag: Fendi / Suitcases: Samsonite (on sale!)

I wore this travel outfit on the airplane from San Francisco to New York for fashion week. I have a formula for my travel outfits. I always wear jeans on an airplane because they are a thick fabric, and also comfortable. There is nothing worse than fussy clothing on an airplane! Jeans are anything but fussy.

When it comes to my outerwear, I prefer to wear a dark colored coat when I travel in the winter. When you are traveling, you touch, and sit, in public places, so wearing dark colors is always a safe bet. It is also easier to wear a thick coat when traveling on a airplane, then trying to stuff it into precious suitcase space! I try to travel light.

For footwear, I like to wear my bulkiest pair of shoes on the airplane; as long as they are comfortable. This frees up suitcase space for more clothing, and smaller shoes.

Layers are key when traveling on an airplane during the winter months. Since San Francisco has a much more mild climate than New York, my outfit is essentially San Francisco weather-ready, and with the coat, it turns into a New York weather-ready outfit. I also keep my gloves, and beanie, in my handbag so I can easily reach for them when I get off the plane, and head outside for my ground transportation.

I try to wear little jewelry when traveling on an airplane. There is no reason to wear fussy, and noisy, bangles. There is also no reason to wear a large ring which may hit into things, or people. One pair of comfortable earrings, and a small ring, if any, is plenty of jewelry for an airplane outfit.

This is my formula for traveling from the west coast, to the east coast, during the winter! What is your formula for an airplane outfit during the winter months?
