We are in Anaheim! My daughter’s high school cheer competition is happening at the Anaheim Convention Center, which is located next door to Disneyland; so you know we have to get a taste of Disney!

On day one, we drove down to Anaheim from the Bay Area, and got settled into our hotel. The cheer team flew, and arrived at the hotel about the same time as we did. We were very fortunate to get a hotel room in the same block as our daughter’s team. While she was busy with cheer, we could still get a few moments with her between events and practice; but we still missed her since she traveled separately and was really busy with practice and prep.

Since the cheer team was getting settled, and practicing on our first night in Ahaheim, we decided to go to Downtown Disney for dinner with our two youngest kids. We stayed at the Anaheim Hilton, which is next door to the convention center, so we were in a prime location to walk to Disneyland Park and Downtown Disney. Loved that!

Can you believe we had never been to Downtown Disney?? How crazy is that!! I was super excited to check it out. Plus, the restaurant I made reservations at looked delicious. This would be a fun night!

OK, if you stay near the convention center and walk to Downtown Disney, keep in mind your phone directions will not work. We followed my phone directions, and we ended up behind California Adventure Park in a security driveway. Thankfully the security guard was super nice and gave us directions to get into Downtown Disney. If you are walking, walk behind the Paradise Pier Hotel and follow the path. It will take you to Downtown Disney. Your phone’s walking directions will not. Heed my warning! My feet were very mad at me for the extra walking we did that night going off-course. haha

Sushi and dessert at Splitsville Restaurant located in Downtown Disney. -apologies for the iPhone photos and their grainy quality.

The first thing we did was eat! I’m so happy I made reservations at Splitsville Restaurant. It was a busy and popular location, so the reservations were key. I highly recommend making reservations if you want to dine at a specific restaurant in Downtown Disney. The opentable app will hook you up! My husband enjoyed a hamburger, my daughter ate sliders, and my son had pizza. I enjoyed happy hour sushi, and we all shared a sundae for dessert. The food was soooooo good!!

After dinner, we decided to walk around and explore Downtown Disney. My kids were in Disney retail heaven! My heaven began when I spotted these handbags. . .

Disney themed Kate Spade handbags –  I’m in love!

OMG Disney has designer handbags! They have both Kate Spade, and Dooney & Bourke bags which are Disney themed! The Kate Spade bags shown above were my favorite. I’m kicking myself for not buying that satchel. Isn’t it fabulous?

What to pack for Disneyland

What to pack for Disneyland and inside my cheer mom suitcase, from top left: Gucci sneakers / red 3/4 sleeve tee / phone case bag / black cardigan sweater c/o Chico’s / lightweight tan scarf / black kimono / black twist tee / colorful bracelet (hot spring trend!) / red and gold earrings / blue and silver earrings / classic cut cropped jeans / black belt / sea colors patterned scarf / seafoam 3/4 sleeve tee / ankle skinny jeans /

“When I say ‘GO!’ you say ‘FIGHT!’ ‘GO! FIGHT!’ ‘GO FIGHT!'”

Oh yes, you read that right, I am a cheer mom. As you read this, I am at Disneyland for USA Cheer Nationals. Since cheer nationals are are held at the Anaheim Convention Center, across the street from Disneyland, we are going to both nationals, and Disneyland. Whew!

My daughter is on her varsity cheer team at school, and they have had a fabulous competition season. Her team qualifying, and going to nationals, is why I skipped going to fashion week this season. I wanted to make sure I could go to Anaheim to support her and her team. So instead of runways this February, I am engrossed in cheers, dances, and amazing competition routines. I will cheer so loud for my daughter and her team, I plan on losing my voice!

The school colors are red, blue, and white. So the red tee is my top for attending USA Cheer Nationals. I will pair it with blue earrings, jeans, and white sneakers for the full “Cheer Mom” lewk. Yes, I know, it’s fabulous 😉 The black cardigan will be perfect in case the air conditioning inside the convention center is cold.

Now, we cannot drag our two younger kids to Anaheim, stay in a hotel across the street from Disneyland, and not go to Disneyland! So, the seafoam lewk will be my Disney outfit. The sneakers are super comfy and perfect for walking. The color palette is on trend for spring, and the phone case-another hot spring trend-will be ideal for staying hands-free throughout the day. I’m ready for the lines!

So stay tuned! I will keep you posted on how they do at Nationals. Wish them luck!! I will also keep you posted on Disneyland. It is always a favorite among my children; and maybe us adults too. 😉 haha

First off, how did we do with nighttime photography? I never take photos at night. I love bright, daytime shade; which is easy lighting for pictures. We played with the settings on the camera, and while these aren’t the best photos we have ever taken, I feel like they came out pretty good. Maybe a little less crisp than I’d like. . .but they work. . .I think?? haha What do you think?

During our family road trip to Napa with the kids, we stopped into Oxbow Public Market for dinner. I had never been to a public market setting before, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It was a bustling marketplace filled with specialty food shop, mall-style food counters, and ice cream! It was sensory overload as two of my kids settled for pizza since they could not decide what to eat. My husband, and middle child settled on sushi, which I chose too. Like a crowded day at the mall, one of us hovered in the seating area until a table opened up which could seat five, while the others went to purchase our food. It worked well! I snapped up a table, and my food was brought to me by my family. Love that!

The sushi was good, and my husband also picked up a beer at the brewery located inside Oxbow. After we all finished eating, we walked around the market to see what else was there. I found The Olive Presse which is an olive oil company located in Sonoma. I have had their olive oil before, and know it’s hard to find, so I purchased a ton of it! I highly recommend the mandarin orange olive oil; yum!

We also found ice cream, also made locally. I enjoyed an egg nog milkshake while my kids all delved into a sundae, or a scoop of their favorite flavor. The ice cream was really good, I highly recommend it! We had lost our seats while walking around, so we ended up sitting outside to eat our ice cream; despite the fact that it was about 40 degrees outside. Brrr! We had fun anyway!

As we were sitting outside, we noticed the wall art on the CIA at Copia which was situated across the parking lot from Oxbow Public Market. After we finished our ice cream, we decided to try our hand at nighttime photography and take pictures of each other in front of this wall, after all, we loved the colors!

We had to adjust the camera quite a bit, but it was fun, and we got fairly good shots! Unfortunately CIA Copia was closed, so we were not able to peek inside. We will save that tour for next time we are in Napa!
