How to get the Dolce & Gabbana beauty look from the fall 2013 runway at home

Dolce & Gabbana sent their fall/winter 2013/2014 collection down the Milan Fashion Week runway on February 24, 2013 and gave Fashionistas everywhere something to covet for the upcoming cool weather season. The designing duo took their inspiration from the mosaic of Monreale which was brought to life by Creative Advisor Pat McGrath.

To create the perfect beauty look which complimented the apparel and accessories on the runway, Pat McGrath combined nude tones with dark, provocative accents which resulted in a stunning beauty look for Dolce & Gabbana’s collection.

Here is how to get the look:

The Face

Flawless Base: Apply a mixture of Perfect Luminous and Perfect Matte Liquid Foundations using a softFoundation Brush. Use a small amount of both foundations and apply to the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Blend from the central point of the face outward until the foundations are blended seamlessly from the hairline to the jaw.

Conceal: To seal the flawless base, use the Perfect Matte Concealer which will add extra coverage and achieve an illuminated, natural look.

Perfect it!: To finish the face, apply Powder Foundation focusing on the forehead.

The Eyes:

Eye shadow: Start with applying Dolce & Gabbana eye shadow in Desert.

Line the eyes: Line the eyes with Black eyeliner for a deep, mysterious look. For the runway, more depth was added to the eyes with the application of Black Intense glam liner on top of the lash line.

Eyelashes: For the full eyelash look on the runway, use two layers of Intense Eyes mascara

Lips:

To recreate the lips from the Dolce & Gabbana runway, start with the lipliner in Ruby and them combine both the Ultra and Amethyst lipsticks for the perfect, sophisticated “straight-from-the-Milan-runway” look.

Nails:

Dolce & Gabbana showed neutral nails on the Milan Fashion Week runway for fall 2013 with the use of theirNude nail polish.

How to navigate the spring sales to benefit your fall wardrobe

May is the last month for spring shopping. As the hot weather rolls in and fall merchandise begins to grace store shelves, this is the month when spring merchandise begins to go on sale. Since this is the end of spring, May is not always a good month for buying seasonal items at full price; unless it is a must-have item and there is only one left in your size.

As spring merchandise begins to get marked down and fall starts taking over the mall, this is a good time to take advantage of lower prices. What is it that you need? Do you need warm weather clothing for a trip or the summer in general? If you have already filled up your spring/summer wardrobe, the spring sales are a good time to find transitional pieces which fit into the fall trends and color palette.

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, fall weather is just as warm, and sometimes warmer, than the spring months. This can be true in other parts of the country as well. Since the weather is warm, Fashionistas tend to reach for their spring/summer wardrobes well into November. So finding spring/summer pieces which reflect the fall trends and not the weight of fall clothing is key to saving money on one’s fall wardrobe and being comfortable in the fall months.

Here are few fabulous items from spring/summer which can be found on sale right now, and within the next month, that will fit perfectly into the fall trends:

1)      Black satchel: the black satchel is a classic handbag, and also happens to be hot for fall. Look for small or medium sized bags which also fit perfectly into the small handbag trend.

2)      Yellow gold: Yellow gold is the metal of choice for fall. Look for costume or fine jewelry in yellow metal. Gold, brass and copper are all perfect metals for fall as long as they have a yellow tone.

3)      The pointed toe: Pointed toe shoes are hot for fall. Look for pumps and sling-backs with closed toes on sale from spring. These silhouettes will be perfect for fall. Just make sure you stay away from neon hues and springtime pastels

4)      Studs: The rock and roll trend is still hot, and this fall there will be spikes, studs and metal embellishments on everything from shoes to handbags to jackets. Looks for understated metal embellishments. Overdoing the studs is tired and from a few seasons ago. Look for edges trimmed with studs or small studs which are all over the item.

5) Shades of dark blue: Dark blue and light navy are replacing spring’s yellow as the new “neutral” color for the season. Look for sale items which are navy or a deep shade of dark blue.

6)      Fall colors: Thankfully Pantone gave us a sneak peek into fall’s colors, this is a big help while navigating the spring sales. Look for shades from the chart below:

If you must buy something right now from a spring/summer collection at full price, make sure you hold on to your receipt and ask the store about their price adjustment policy. This will help you obtain the sale price if what you purchased happens to go on sale within the first week or two after you bought it.

Happy shopping and stay fabulous

How to get the beauty look from Dolce & Gabbana’s fall 2012 runway

Dolce & Gabbana’s fall 2012 collection shown during Milan Fashion Week was nothing short of amazing. The designing duo presented a collection which evoked the opulence of Sicilian Baroque. The line featured intricate brocade details against a classic black and gold color palette which inspired Fashionistas everywhere for the upcoming cool weather season.

In order to create the ultimate beauty look on the models, make-up artist Pat McGrath used Dolce & Gabbana beauty products to create the ultimate fall beauty look on the runway which not only complimented the accessory and apparel collection, the look inspired new beauty trends for the fall season. Pat McGrath translated Dolce & Gabbana’s vision into makeup by combing tonal nudes and rich gold accents.

This season we were inspired by the exquisite detail found in Baroque architecture and design,” says Domenico Dolce.  “We wanted to reflect the delicate perfection of embroidery and the details you see in tapestries; the iconic grandeur of cherubs, capodimonte flowers, intricate motifs and stitching,” adds Stefano Gabbana.

Dolce & Gabbana and Pat McGrath have shared the beauty secrets from backstage at Milan Fashion Week in order to help us achieve this flawless and fabulous face at home. The following text was written and provided by Pat McGrath and Dolce & Gabbana:

To achieve a flawless look Pat applied The Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation using The Foundation Brush

She carefully blended the foundation adding extra coverage on the nose and forehead. The Perfect Finish Concealer was then used to achieve a flawless, ethereal look illuminated with light.

Finally Pat used The Luminous Cheek Colour in Delight, sweeping colour lightly across models’ cheekbones for a romantic flush

On the eyes, The Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Gold and Desert were applied in layers to create a luxurious, gilt rich tone.

The Crayon Intense Eyeliner in Nude was then worked along the lash line above and below the eyes to brighten the look and add further definition.

Finally, several coats of The Secret Eyes Mascara in Coffee were applied, achieving long, volumized lashes for a flirtatious look.

Turning her attention to the lips, Pat applied The Classic Cream Lipstick in Petal and Mandorla, mixing the colors together for a soft, sensual lip with a subtle sheen. The color was applied with greater intensity at the cupid’s bow for a pearlescent finish.

Pat chose The Intense Nail lacquer in Nude for a final subtle accent. The luxuriant finish of the nail color perfectly completed the sensuous makeup look.

Pat McGrath explained: “It was wonderful to create this make up look for this collection; there is a real sense of divine drama to the clothes and so I wanted to bring that to life with the makeup look. The models look refined and flawless, and their gilt edged lids really refer to the Designers’ lavish inspiration.”
