KAL RIEMAN fashion-forward yet classic designs

Cally Rieman is a hot new fashion designer out of New York who debuted her first capsule collection, KAL RIEMAN collection in 2009. KAL RIEMAN’s first ready to wear collection was for fall 2010. The ready-to-wear collection is filled with lean silhouette’s that elongate the body and offer a fresh take on office attire as well as casual wear.

“I design clothing for women that embodies the grace and ease that makes men’s wear so powerful.” Designer KAL RIEMAN.

Cally Rieman grew up on Ohio and learned about hard work at an early age. Her Mother was a police Officer and her Father was a Machinist. She watched her parents work hard while maintaining a household of five children. She was an honors student and swimmer who managed a full schedule, much like her mother, and followed her ambitions. Being one of five children, Cally Rieman had her fair share of hand-me-downs which she transformed to match her self-described “tom-boy” style.

Cally Rieman earned a degree in East Asian Studies and Political Science from Denison University. While in college, she studied abroad and taught English to the owner of a textile and manufacturing and marketing company in Taiwan. The study program peaked her interest in the fashion industry.

After completing her degree, Cally Rieman worked in the finance industry for four years. After her finance career, she enrolled in The School of the Art Institute in Chicago where she pursued her degree in fashion design. In 2011 Cally Rieman worked in Paris for Jean Charles de Castelbajac designing men’s and women’s fashions. In 2002, Cally Rieman came back to the States and worked as a Design Assistant for Rubin Chapelle. Cally Rieman began planning her own collection after working for Hilfigier H; combining her knowledge of both men’s and women’s fashion to create a men’s style influenced collection for women.

KAL RIEMAN’s spring 2011 collection is both on trend and classic at the same time. RIEMAN’s feminine yet powerful designs can instantly work into any Fashionistas wardrobe and add unique style to any look. Her rust scarf top combined with skinny jeans is a casual elegant outfit to-die-for! Her suits are feminine and powerful; perfect for leading a board meeting.

Spring Shoe Trends: Studs

The Rocker Chic look was all over the runways for spring 2011 and studs made a move back onto handbags; reminding Fashionistas of the stud trend from roughly five to seven years ago. As we move towards spring and the resort trends are filling up store shelves alongside holiday wears, studs are appearing in full force on shoes.

The studs we are seeing for resort and spring are less hardcore than the ones that were in style several years back. Last time the studded shoe trend was big, the studs were in varying sizes and in some cases quite exaggerated. For spring 2011, and the current resort looks, the studs are smaller and more uniform. Although the stud patterns on handbags appear to be on the understated side, the studs appearing on shoes are more prominent. Instead of lining the seams or creating a small pattern as the studs are doing on handbags, the studs placed on shoes by designers are blanketing the leather and overpowering the fabrication beneath the hardware.

The open toe bootie, which is big for spring 2011, is being covered in small studs. Rock and Republic already has a style on store shelves for resort which is anything but understated.
As strappy sandals begin to fill store shelves for resort, there is a mix between platform soles and the flat sole.
Regardless of how high the heel or low the sole, studs are dressing the straps. Valentino, who is known for classic, feminine and understated designs, has adorned a few strappy high heels with gold-tone studs. Burberry is also offering high heeled, studded sandals that are edgy and anything but conservative; a stark move away from the classic trench coat look-yet very London.

Flats are being rocked up with studs for spring as well. Rock and Republic is showing heavily studded ballet flats while Balenciaga offers classic studded flats in seasonal colors and classic colors with either covered hardware or giant silver hardware.

The studded shoe for resort and spring is going to be big. This is a great time to invest in at least one pair of fabulous, rocker chic studs for your toes. You may even try shopping your closet for a few studded soles from the last time this trend was hot. Perhaps there is a pair of studded Jimmy Choos in the back of your closet! Love it! Happy shopping and stay fabulous

Spring 2011 Fashion Trends: Classic Nautical

The Nautical Trend is one which makes an appearance almost every spring season. Spring 2011 is no different as the nautical trend appeared on both the resort/cruise runways as well as the spring 2011 runways in New York, Paris and Milan. The nautical trend for spring 2011 encompasses the traditional horizontal stripes as well as sailor looks such as white caps and boating jackets.

Christian Dior showed boating jackets and sailor caps with tailored city shorts and slouchy tops along with colorful, strapy sandals. As bright colors appeared on the spring runways, the nautical look which is traditionally navy, shades of blue, white and some red, was intertwined with the all-white looks and brightly colored frocks.

Horizontal stripes also graced the runways of Miu Miu and Salvatore Ferragamo. Miu Miu and Brian Atwood also featured espadrille wedge sandals in sea-worthy shades of red, navy and white with think rope detail.

Although the nautical trend had more heft for spring 2010 than it does for spring 2011, it is still a relevant trend which features classic pieces such as the horizontal navy and white striped shirt. This is definitely a trend where you can shop your closet and find pieces from the nautical trend in seasons past. If you do not have a nautical item, invest in a thin striped, navy and white shirt. The shirt is classic and works well with jeans, white shorts and casual looks. It can even be paired with lightly colored trousers and a blazer; a great casual Friday look for work! Happy shopping and stay fabulous.
