How to shop your closet for spring 2026

Spring has sprung and it is time to get our wardrobes in order. It is always a good idea to shop our closets before spending too much on a new wardrobe and accidentally duplicating something we already own. So, let’s dive in!

There are new and continuing trends for the spring 2026 season, so let’s pull out what we already own and place these items front and center, then, make a shopping list!

Color: Neutrals and pops of color are hot this spring/summer season. Pull out shades of white, shades of brown, navy, shades of blue, and black. In addition, the hottest colors to add to your neutral looks will be blue, green, pink, and yellow.

Handbags: The anonymous handbag reigns supreme. So, steer clear of logos! Pull out your IT bags from the early 2000’s including the Fendi Baguette, Balenciaga City, Chloe Marcie, and Chloe Paddington. In addition, the belted tote, classic shoulder bag, drawstring pouch, and east/west silhouettes are still hot. Rock those bags!

Jeans: Wide legs are still hot as well as classic cuts, flares and bootcuts.

Footwear: Black boots on cool days are perfect. Continue to wear Mary Janes, ballet flats, loafer slides, quiet street sneakers, classic pumps, and slingback kitten heels. Woven slingbacks are hot this year, if you have a pair, pull them out!

Accessories: Dangle earrings, brooches, scarves, and pearl jewelry are hot this year. Pull them out or add them to your shopping list.

Tops: For spring 2026 we are seeing floral tops, puff sleeves, and horizontal stripes. Pull them out or add them to your shopping list too!

Well, that’s it! Get these styles out from the back of your closet and enjoy wearing them this spring season. Now, you can make your shopping list! Be sure to add woven slingbacks to that list if you already have a pair!

Spring is starting within days, and I have assembled my capsule wardrobe for the season. Of course, I may add one or two items as the season goes on; I am eyeing a trendy floral top with puff sleeves.

Speaking of puff sleeves . . .they are back! That didn’t take long. It seems like ’80’s puff sleeves were just a hot thing, and here we are again! So, I am trying to not go too crazy on this cheeky trend. I bought one, very affordable, striped puff sleeve knit top for the spring season. It will pair well with my denim maxi skirt and jeans. It will be too casual for the office except on casual Friday.

On the topic of denim. . . it’s hot! Then again, when is it not? But, I digress. . .

Denim is on everything right now. So, keep your eyes posted for any type of clothing in denim as well as denim shoes and handbags. If you already own something like this from last time everything on the planet was denim, pull it out of your closet and wear it now! If not, don’t be afraid to indulge in something denim that is not pants. It’s a fun trend which recycles itself every so often.

I don’t have any really formal events this spring season, so this shirt dress will turn into a workhorse. It can be worn to the office as well as casually and for springtime events. It is quite versatile since different shoes and bags dress it up or down. Love this classic piece! I highly recommend investing in one for your wardrobe. Mine comes in regular and petite. Love that!

It’s already March! This year is flying by! We are less than three weeks away from the official spring season, and the spring blossoms are already out, the sun is shining, and spring looks like it is already here. Love this!
