Mask ideas for protection

The CDC has recommended we should wear masks to protect ourselves and others when going out in public. They do not want us wearing surgical masks as our medical professionals need them at this time. This means we need to either make our own masks, or get creative. Since I am not handy with my sewing machine, I am going to get creative!

In the above photos, I took a square scarf, and folded it into an oblong rectangle. This gave the scarf several layers of fabric for protection. In addition, it fit around my head so I could clip it with a hair claw. Remember in the late ’90’s when hair claws were all the rage? I bet you have one somewhere where in your accessory drawer! You can fasten it on the scarf the same way we used to fasten our hair with it; twist it, fold it, and clasp it!

In the above photo, I started out by folding the scarf into thirds.

Then, I took each side and brought them into the middle to create layers of fabric, which is added protection from droplets in the air.

As you can see in the above the photos, you take the back of the scarf once it is wrapped around your head, covering your nose, mouth, and chin, then you twist it, fold it, and clasp it!

This is a really easy way to make a scarf into a mask. I know there have been videos circulating the internet which show a scarf and two hair bands, but that version of a scarf mask falls off your face right away. This version stays put, and is easier to tighten in public, if need be, while keeping your nose and mouth covered.

The scarf I used is polyester, I recommend using a more textured fabric such as cotton or wool. This will stay put longer on your head. If you try and use a silk scarf, the claw will ruin it, and it will also be too slippery to stay put. You want something that will not slip off, so try and stick to a cotton or wool scarf.

Here are a few scarves, and a hair claw, for creating your own scarf mask:

In addition to going the scarf route, you can actually find really cute and fashionable masks which are made by artisans, crafters, and designers online. Here are a few of my favorites:

Do you ski? You may already own a neck scarf. Sometimes referred to as a ski mask, or balaclava, the neck versions are great for pulling over your nose and mouth. You can put it on your neck when you leave the house, then, when you arrive at your destination, simply pull it over your nose and mouth. When you get home, remember to carefully pull it off your head and place it in the washing machine. Just like a mask, it could be contaminated and you don’t want anything getting on your face, or shaken off the fabric and becoming airborne.

Here are a few fabulous neck scarves you can use as masks:

The recommendation is to have your nose, mouth, and chin covered. Remember to safely remove your mask without shaking it, and always wash it, or disinfect it, after each use. Never throw your mask away on the ground of a parking lot. Always bring a bag in your car to place the mask into when you are taking it off. If you don’t have a way to clean the mask between uses, keep it in a paper bag for 72 hours between uses, without touching or shaking it. This will help the germs dissipate. Lastly, remember to always wash your hands!

Stay safe and fabulous!

Rebecca Minkoff Edie Baguette review

baguette trend spring 2020

pictured: Rebecca Minkoff Edie Baguette in red /

I love finding a handbag which fits into multiple categories. The new Rebecca Minkoff Edie Baguette is not only on trend, it’s a functional bag that serves multiple purposes. Love that!

One of the big trends for spring 2020, and 2020 in general, is the return of the baguette. We are seeing baguettes everywhere! This fabulous baguette by Rebecca Minkoff isn’t just your average baguette, it’s a convertible baguette. Oh yes, it’s three bags in one! Love!

The Rebecca Minkoff Edie Baguette is a cross body bag, it’s a retro under-the-arm shoulder bag, and it’s a clutch. Yup, that’s right! You can wear this bag on casual days as a cross body bag, amp up your look with a ’90’s shoulder bag vibe, or pair it with an evening ensemble. So while we are sheltering-in-place right now, it’s the perfect bag to wear cross body while going to the grocery store or pharmacy. You can also wear it cross body while taking a walk outside. Then, when the economy starts to open back up, you can wear it as a clutch to go out to dinner or a party. You can also wear it with the shorter strap over your forearm or shoulder. It’s a lot of looks in one, for a reasonable price under $250. Love that!

I love how this bag has two detachable straps. You can detach the one you don’t want to wear, or leave them both on and allow the one you aren’t using to drape down; giving the bag a street style vibe. So fun!

It also has a magnetic closure, so you don’t have to fiddle with the clasp as shown. That’s actually cosmetic. The hidden magnetic closure makes this bag easy in, and easy out. Perfect to wear everyday. Loving that!

The interior of the Rebecca Minkoff Edie Baguette offers just enough room for daily purse essentials such as wallet, lipstick, phone, keys, and sunglasses. It also features an interior slip pocket which is great for receipts, business cards, cash, or credit cards; in case you decide to not carry a wallet.

The Rebecca Minkoff Edie Baguette also has an exterior opera ticket pocket. This is great for receipts, and other slim objects you might want to reach for, or put away quickly, without opening up the bag. There are so many reasons why this bag is functional and practical, while still being on trend.

This is a fabulous bag to wear right now, and into the summer, fall, and winter seasons. It will definitely live longer than the season. This bag will also save us all money in the long-run since it is three bags in one! Plus, it fits into the bright bag trend, baguette trend, and multi-color trend for the spring and summer seasons.

I’m loving this bag so much this season! It’s part of my spring handbag capsule wardrobe too. What do you think?

Best hand cream for frequent hand washing

Best hand cream for frequent hand washing from left: L’Occitane hand cream / Colleen Rothschild hand cream / Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus+ hand therapy c/o Perricone MD/

Do you find yourself washing your hands all. the. time? I do! Under normal circumstances, I wash my hands frequently during the day, but never to the point where they get tight, dry, and sensitive. Well, now that we are sheltering in place, social distancing, and washing our hands multiple times per hour, my hands are all those things! They are definitely mad at me!!

In order to combat the beating my hands are taking from washing them multiple times per hour, everyday, I am going through my hand cream supply quickly; and have already had to open two new tubes. I always keep two in my backstock, now I will need to order more online in order to keep my supply available. It isn’t only me using hand cream in my house now, it is myself, my husband, and my three kids. We all need it! I assume you do too!

I have been a huge fan of L’Occitane hand cream since the late 1990s when it was deemed the only hand cream on the planet that wasn’t greasy. Everyone and thier mother flocked to the L’Occitane store at the mall to purchase a tube. Sometimes, they were sold out! It was defintly the “IT” hand cream of the late ’90’s and early 2000’s! I am still a fan, and always keep a tube downstairs so I can use it as needed without walking upstairs to fetch hand cream. It’s a must-have in my house.

Now that I mentioned I keep a hand cream downstairs, I must also mention I keep one upstairs on my nightstand. The one I keep upstairs is also a favorite of mine; and preferred by my husband. I keep my Colleen Rothschild hand cream upstairs on my nightstand and apply it as needed, and every night before I go to sleep. It’s an amazing hand cream!

You might be wondering how I can have two favorite hand creams; well, I do! It really is a toss up as to which one is better, I love them both. If you cannot decide which one to choose, the only difference I can point out is that L’Occitane has a thicker texture, and a shea butter scent, as opposed to the Colleen Rothschild which has a pleasant scent. They both smell good, and work equally well. It depends on the texture and scent for you to make a decision. I recommend trying both and then seeing which one you prefer. You might end up unable to choose, just like me!

I receive PR packages frequently; and I have been blogging for ten years now, so you can only imagine how many hand creams have been sent my way, and I have tested out. Nothing compares to L’Occitane and Colleen Rothschild. They are my two favorites. So when I say they are good, you know my sample size has been large! I have tried over twenty brands, and nothing has caught my eye like these two.

This takes us to Perricone MD. This hand therapy was sent to me in February in a PR package. I wasn’t sure what to do with intensive hand therapy, since my hands have always been in good shape due to my other two hand creams. Until this current healthcare crisis, I didn’t realize this was something I needed in my life!

As I mentioned before, I am always washing my hands. I am sure you are too! In addition to hand washing, I am cleaning my house multiple times per week, instead of my usual one day a week. This is exposing my hands to more chemicals, more hand washing, and more chances to get dry and tight skin. I have found that using Perricone MD’s Cold Plasma Plus+ hand therapy one time per day is exactly what my hands need to stay normal. I highly recommend keeping a tube on hand in order to combat the extra beating your hands are taking. It’s truly a blessing during this time.

There you have it! I have two normal hand creams to recommend, the L’Occitane, and the Colleen Rothschild. In addition, I recommend keeping the Perricone MD hand therapy on hand for intensive use as needed.

Do you have a favorite hand cream?

Thank you for stopping by!
