It is New York Fashion Week, and fashion month season! The spring/summer 2023 collections are starting to grace the runways, and a whole new color palette is coming our way. Love!

Last spring/summer, we enjoyed brighter colors, and playful hues which made it from the runways to the streets. The spring 2023 season is no different. Designers are opting for bright and playful colors in their collection, which will ultimately make it to the streets, and give us a happy, bright future. Love that!

Not into bright hues? That is not a problem! Designers are moving away from dark neutrals and looking for soft grey, soft brown, and few pastels to balance out the bright hues. When spring arrives, you can store your dark neutrals, your black (gasp!), and anything on the darker side in favor of bright colors, and select pastel hues. The spring and summer seasons will be bright, playful, and not-too-serious. Are you ready? I am!

Are you hesitating about the Barbiecore trend? There is a bright pink named “Beetroot Purple” in the spring color palette, so it appears that this cheeky hue will continue into 2023. So don’t be afraid to rock shades of bright pink now and into 2023. This color will stick around for awhile!

Fall 2022 trends from NYFW

New York Fashion Week is starting to come back! Although I still watched the shows online this season instead of attending in person, I was able to feel the excitement of seeing more in-person shows as well as more style on the street via videos and still’s. Many designers still showed online instead of opting to return in person, while others skipped the week entirely and released their collections quietly. It is an interesting trend which only time will tell if many designers return to live shows, or if this hybrid version of fashion week is the new way to showcase collections.

For the fall/winter 2022/2023 season, designers began to move away from the loungewear, urban streetwear, and casual looks we have been enjoying for the past few years. While urban streetwear was huge even before the pandemic, it seems to be grouped in with more comfortable trends that designers are tossing aside as we move back into a more regular version of life. Fashion is getting dressier.

This fall 2022 season, don’t try leaving the house in your loungewear, you will look “so last year.” The fall 2022 season is all about the power suit, structured shoulders, statement-making silhouettes, micro-mini skirts, and getting dressed up. Look for influences from the 1960s and 1980s; which were dressier decades in fashion than the 1970s and 1990s which have been popular influences over the past few decades.

As I posted last week, the color palette for fall is both autumn-like, and summer bright. This trend held true on the New York Fashion Week runways as designers showed bright colors, as well as fall colors. There is a color palette to suit your mood this fall season whether you’re feeling dark, or bright and cheery.

Can we chat about the power suit? This trend has been gaining momentum this year and it is exploding in the fall. There are power suits not just for daytime, but for formal affairs as well. If you don’t invest in a power suit, you will be missing out. This is a trend you can jump on right now. Power suits are more versatile than you might think. You can mix and match the pants and blazer with dresses, jeans, shorts, and skirts; creating a whole new wardrobe with just those two pieces. While it might look expensive at face value, you can find a power suit for under $300 and save money by mixing with other items in your closet. The power suit is actually a money saver. Now THAT’S power!

Wondering about handbags? Of course you are! Handbags for the fall season will continue to be on the small side, and we are still seeing hobo bags (soft and structured), as well as top handle bags, and bowler bags. Tory Burch had a fabulous version with squared off corners on her runway for fall. That bag is on my wish list! Also trending were clean and simple handbags which evoke luxury without screaming logos at you. Coach has a beautiful bag to covet for fall on their runway. I cannot wait for it to hit store shelves!

What do you think of the fall 2022 runways from New York? Are you excited about a return to dressing, and the power suit?

Spring 2022 trends from NYFW

The last model has walked off the runway in New York, and the last video has been released. This means we have a whole new set of fabulous trends to covet for the upcoming spring/summer 2022 season. Love!

There are several trends from last year which appear to be continuing into 2022. We are looking at the continuation of the Power Suit, vivid colors, all-white ensembles, exaggerated shoulders, shoulder pads, and wide leg pants.

As we head into 2022, look for more tailoring on clothing in general. Loungewear is taking a backseat, as is urban street-wear. We are looking at getting dressed again. Think skirts, dresses, and powerful pants. Handbags are medium to small, and will hold only the necessities.

The decades of influence include the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Think late1900s. There will be grown-up florals, groundbreaking right? haha, and solid, all-one-hue ensembles. Orange, baby blue and pink appear to be the favorite hues of New York designers for spring/summer 2022. The orange power suit will be huge, HUGE!!!

We are also looking forward to daytime sequins, one-shoulder looks, blazers over anything, and much more structure than we have seen in recent seasons; even with wider leg pants. Get ready to dress up!

So, if you are looking at what to keep, store, donate, or sell from your closet, keep and store anything structured, or in brighter hues. Keep blazers, one-shoulder looks, and sequins. Donate extra loungewear, you only need some, not a closet full! Same with sweatpants, only keep what you need for the gym or wearing around the house. Next spring, casual days will include jeans with blazers and casual dresses. Sweatpants and flip-flops can stay home. That being said, look for comfort sandals and street sneakers paired with dresses and dress pants in spring 2022. Your feet can stay happy.
