The New York Fashion Week runways have come to an end, and they have left us with beautiful collections to covet for the spring 2024 season. This is definitely one of the most beautiful seasons yet!

The overall vibe of the spring 2024 collections at New York Fashion Week was retro, feminine, cheerful, and nostalgic. It was a return to dressing up, taking pride in your ensembles, and moving into a cheerful and colorful world. Dressing in all black and looking like a shadow is over, spring/summer 2024 is all about swinging into a rainbow of hues, florals, and happier days. Love!

There are too many trends to mention in this post from the NYFW spring 2024 runways, so let’s concentrate on the best ones and highlight what to look for in your closet, and place on your wish list. So, without further ado, here are the top trends from the NYFW spring 2024 runways!

Inspiration Era-1960s and 1970s: The spring 2024 vibe brings us back to the glory days of air travel and when the world was a bit more playful. Think go-go dancing vibes, miniskirts, scarves, colorful powersuits, tweed, bold prints, and happy colors. Bring out your vintage, this season is swinging back to groovier times with everything Brady Bunch.

Feminine Vibes: While blazers and suiting are still hot for spring 2024, the silhouettes have moved away from menswear inspiration and into a more tailored and feminine form of suiting. Think Jackie O in both her 1960s and 1970s eras.

Floral Details: Groundbreaking, right? I know. Well, florals for spring 2024 are slightly different this year as we saw them on chocker necklaces at Kate Spade, and in three-dimensional forms on handbags, accessories and clothing. Remember when Valentino had handbags which looked like one giant flower? It’s that vibe, but at more affordable price points and from several designers; it’s a trend, not a one-designer-wonder this time around.

Studio 54-again: So, this trend comes and goes, and it is back! Gold fabrics, handbags, footwear and more are hot for spring 2024, as well as anything metallic or shiny. When you go out on the town in spring and summer next year, dress in sparkling, long looks which would help you jump the Studio 54 line.

Go-Go Dancer: These 1960s mini skirts and dresses with fringe, sequins and anything that shakes, are hot for spring. If you like to shake shake shake, go for the go-go dancer look and leave the Studio 54 look for those who like to sit and stand at the club.

Investment Handbags: The anonymous handbag is still going strong. Logos were nowhere to be found on the spring runways, so look for high quality, timeless handbags to rock during the spring/summer 2024 seasons. This is the investment era, and I am loving it! Side note: handbags are still mini, small and medium.

Slouchy totes and hobos: Soft, slouchy and touchable handbags are continuing to be a hot style as we move into the new year. Look for small, medium and large slouchy hobo bags and totes. Buttery leather and suede are hotter than hot, and they make fabulous investments. This look also offers an effortless vibe, which is always welcome.

Doctor Bag: Classic doctor bags are back! If you have the Givenchy Antigona, you are golden! If not, stay tuned for fabulous doctor bags from Coach and Kate Spade to hit store shelves in the spring season. Almost every designer will have a doctor bag for you to choose from, but the Coach version for spring is currently my favorite. Love!

Retro Prints: Fun and geometric, retro prints are hot for spring. Kevan Hall showed us some beautiful retro prints, and they are perfect for the spring season. In addition to geometric prints, expect to see a lot of black and white polka dots for spring, as well as nautical inspired stripes.

Chanel Classic Flap Inspired Bags: Designers and brands have been inspired by the Chanel chain strap for decades, but it seems to be exploding for the spring season. According to my mother, this was a huge trend in the 1960s, so it seems natural that it would cycle back into style as we head into spring 2024, which is influenced by the 1960s and 1970s. If you have a classic Chanel bag, fabulous! Pull it out of storage and start wearing it to more than special events. If not, there are already several choices on the market, or you can wait for spring colors such as yellow and lilac to hit store shelves in the spring season. There will be a beautiful color and version of this trend in every price point when spring hits. So, sit tight, this timeless, investment style is exploding!

There you have it! Spring 2024 is giving us the best looks from the 1960s and 1970s. It is also a return to dressing up and moving away from loungewear and ultra casual styles. Expect pretty colors, bold prints, shiny fabrics, investment accessories, scarves, and overall pride in one’s look before leaving the house.

Thanks for stopping by!

XOXO

Fall 2023 trends from NYFW

The last model has walked off the fall/winter 2023/2024 runway in New York, and we are left with continuing trends, as well as a few new ones. So get ready!

The fall 2023 season is looking a little bit brighter, and also giving consumers celebratory styles to covet in the next cool weather season. Designers opted for bright hues, sparkling fabrics, cold shoulder necklines, asymmetrical and dramatic hemlines, power suiting, menswear inspiration, and looks which really show off all the work we have been doing at the gym. Get those abs of steel people!

It doesn’t matter how cold the weather gets; you better be showing off those abs next season! Designers are showing all sorts of cut outs, low waistlines, and cropped styles. Make sure you don’t skip Pilates class, because your abs will be on full display next fall.

Classic black and white combos graced the majority of the runways for the fall/winter 2023/2024 as well as all-black ensembles. In contrast, bright hues from all over the rainbow also graced the NYFW runways. Look for solid, tonal looks in bright hues you would expect in the spring or summer, not the fall. Be bright! For the more popular hues, check out the top ten from Pantone.

Not in the mood to suffer through high heels and a dress? Yeah, I feel ya. The feminine tuxedo is back! This trend is fabulous. It evokes power, plus, you can make multiple outfits with one tuxedo. Invest in one; especially if you go out a lot. Love it!

Metallics are still hot! Next fall, you will find shiny fabrics, sparkling fabrications, and metallic handbags. You can add a shiny blazer over another outfit for an understated look, or go full head-to-toe metallic. How bright do you want to be?

In addition to the five trends featured in these photos, also look for more oversized bags; we shall see if consumers pick up this trend, so far, it’s a no-go. Also watch for more small satchels; in the fall you will see more kitschy shapes instead of classic lady bag silhouettes. Also, faux and real leather, as well as faux fur, puffy coats, and statement coats. Of course, let’s not forget shoes! The square toe is coming back, so watch for square toes; you will already see them on store shelves now. Start investing!

What do you think of the trends coming in for the fall/winter 2023/2024 season?

Thanks for stopping by!

Fall 2022 trends from NYFW

New York Fashion Week is starting to come back! Although I still watched the shows online this season instead of attending in person, I was able to feel the excitement of seeing more in-person shows as well as more style on the street via videos and still’s. Many designers still showed online instead of opting to return in person, while others skipped the week entirely and released their collections quietly. It is an interesting trend which only time will tell if many designers return to live shows, or if this hybrid version of fashion week is the new way to showcase collections.

For the fall/winter 2022/2023 season, designers began to move away from the loungewear, urban streetwear, and casual looks we have been enjoying for the past few years. While urban streetwear was huge even before the pandemic, it seems to be grouped in with more comfortable trends that designers are tossing aside as we move back into a more regular version of life. Fashion is getting dressier.

This fall 2022 season, don’t try leaving the house in your loungewear, you will look “so last year.” The fall 2022 season is all about the power suit, structured shoulders, statement-making silhouettes, micro-mini skirts, and getting dressed up. Look for influences from the 1960s and 1980s; which were dressier decades in fashion than the 1970s and 1990s which have been popular influences over the past few decades.

As I posted last week, the color palette for fall is both autumn-like, and summer bright. This trend held true on the New York Fashion Week runways as designers showed bright colors, as well as fall colors. There is a color palette to suit your mood this fall season whether you’re feeling dark, or bright and cheery.

Can we chat about the power suit? This trend has been gaining momentum this year and it is exploding in the fall. There are power suits not just for daytime, but for formal affairs as well. If you don’t invest in a power suit, you will be missing out. This is a trend you can jump on right now. Power suits are more versatile than you might think. You can mix and match the pants and blazer with dresses, jeans, shorts, and skirts; creating a whole new wardrobe with just those two pieces. While it might look expensive at face value, you can find a power suit for under $300 and save money by mixing with other items in your closet. The power suit is actually a money saver. Now THAT’S power!

Wondering about handbags? Of course you are! Handbags for the fall season will continue to be on the small side, and we are still seeing hobo bags (soft and structured), as well as top handle bags, and bowler bags. Tory Burch had a fabulous version with squared off corners on her runway for fall. That bag is on my wish list! Also trending were clean and simple handbags which evoke luxury without screaming logos at you. Coach has a beautiful bag to covet for fall on their runway. I cannot wait for it to hit store shelves!

What do you think of the fall 2022 runways from New York? Are you excited about a return to dressing, and the power suit?
