If only we could wear avant-garde attire to the office! Alas, this is only reality if you work in an extremely creative environment where dressing creatively enhances your career. In the rest of the corporate world, there is casual, business casual and business attire. Ho-hum.

When dressing for a corporate environment, I try to stay conservative and express myself through color, or by downplaying a runway trend. Black and white together is a huge trend in 2014. It also happens to be considered classic, therefore, it is a great trend to wear to the office, since it has conservative, timeless appeal. I decided to bring white into this outfit through this blouse by River Island. The back of the blouse offers a wide, tired design which drapes down the back and has a slightly relaxed fit. Although the blouse is wide, and can easily be worn with jeans, heels and a clutch for an evening out, it is also understated enough to fit into an office environment with a business dress code. Love that!

Although this blouse is a new favorite of mine for both work and play, the real gem in this ensemble is what I am wearing on my feet! Imagine my surprise when I arrived home last week and found a box on my doorstep from Neiman Marcus. What could it be? I was confused when I saw it sitting in front of my door, after all, the only thing I had purchased from Neiman Marcus in the past month had been a pair of fall 2014 Rockstuds by Valentino; and they were not being sent to me until October 2014!

Excited, I opened up the box, and much to my surprise, they were the Rockstuds! How could this be?! I was not expecting these beautiful shoes until October, and here they were, in my hands during the month of June! Of course, I cannot wait until the fall season to start wearing them, so naturally I paired my new fall shoes with my office-appropriate black and white outfit! How could I not?

Have you ever pre-ordered an item for an upcoming season and to your surprise, received the item early? If so, please share your story!

Summertime black, white and pink

In the summer months, I love wearing dresses as an alternative to pants or shorts. They can be just as comfortable and cool as shorts; yet appear so much more “put together.” I love this little striped dress by Monki for summer. It can be worn casually without a belt and paired with flat sandals, or dressed up as in the photos above. For less than $40, that is downright amazing!

This summer I have been gravitating towards black and white pairings with pops of pink or blue. This tote bag has been my go-to “pop of pink” since January when I first purchased it! I had originally planned to bring it to New York with me last February for fashion week, but it was too big to fit inside my suitcase, yet not big enough to use as a travel tote. Since I refuse to check my bags for fear of the airline losing one, I always try to pack things which fit easily in my carry-on. It would have been perfect during fashion week because it is roomy and would have fit my camera, a scarf, gloves, iPad and more!

This Rebecca Minkoff tote bag has been an amazing handbag this season. It can fit extra clothing, a book, my laptop and more. I can’t wait to see which colors it comes in this fall. I may need to to invest in a fall hued one. . .

Do you have a favorite piece you cannot live without this summer? Any great deals on clothing you are excited about for the summer season?

Kicking off summer vacation

I wore this outfit to my son’s graduation from Kindergarten. Not only was it adorable to see my son wear a graduation cap, it was amazing to see how proud he was to graduate! He is really excited about entering first grade next year and I am excited to have all three of my kids on the same schedule!

Don’t get me wrong, as “freeing” as it is to have the kids in school, the school year can be hectic and downright stressful! In addition to driving the kids to and from school, once I pick them up after school I become a taxi driver; taking them from activity to activity. I am fortunate to be able to work from home and be there to drive them around after school. Although, I have to admit, summer vacation is just as fun and relaxing for me as it is for my kids!

I am thankful to have this fabulous drawstring  bucket bag from Jill Milan’s fall 2014 collection. It is perfect to wear now and into fall; not just because of the neutral metallic hue, but because it is so practical! This bag fits everything I need for work and taking my kids from activity to activity. I can fit a few iPad’s inside, plus a novel, snacks, water bottle and everyday purse essentials. Practical + fabulously fashionable = love!

I am so thrilled about the bucket bag trend right now. Drawstring bucket bags are perfect for everyday life and they are not as heavy and bulky as totes. I am looking forward to wearing my Jill Milan bucket bag for a very long time 🙂
