The past few weeks have been so.very.cold! This is the first week of June, and the fog seems thicker than normal. In addition, the cloud cover seems cooler than normal; and the temperatures feel like what February should feel like! I understand this is due to the El Nino pattern way out there in the ocean, but I hope this cool summer weather from El Nino results in the fabulous torrents of rain El Nino has brought us in the past! Can we say “flood of ’82!” Now there is a story! The huge storm of 1982; it was storm which trapped my family inside our house without power for three days! The upside of the flood was the large amount of rainfall we encountered a few years after a horrible drought. But I digress. . .

Since the weather influences what we wear, I always follow weather patterns in order to set my mood for my own personal style. With cooler temperatures, and the thought of El Nino returning rainfall to California, my mood has turned earthy. This earthy mood of mine is what caused me to choose a boho-chic skirt to wear last week. I love this skirt. It has a “Little House on The Prairie” vibe, as well as a chic hippie vibe; all of which take me back to my childhood and that great El Nino storm of 1982. Perhaps wearing this skirt is my own sort of rain-dance? One can only hope 😉

How has the cool weather affected your personal style, and your mood, these past couple of weeks?

Memorial Day Weekend is always the kick-off to the summer season for my family. One of my family’s favorite past-times in the summer is playing at the beach! So, we ventured down to Capitola for brunch, and a fun day at the beach. Of course, since we have been having unusually cold and foggy weather the past couple of weeks, the beach was no different. The temperature for the day hovered in the mid 50’s; keeping us out of the water, and bundled up. It was still a fun day, and my daughter’s American Girl Doll also had a blast 😉 I just love her swimsuit, don’t you? She was the only one who did not feel cold at all! Haha

One of the new trends this summer is the cropped trouser pant trend. I recently picked up this pair of cropped, casual trousers from Gap and they turned out to be the perfect pants for our family beach day. The cuffs on the bottom of the legs, and the tie belt, gave the pants enough style to be worn to church before the beach, and also to brunch on our way to the beach! Perfection! Since they have an elastic waist and loose fit, these pants were extremely comfortable for sitting on the beach and playing around with my kids. I am looking forward to wearing these cropped pants all season long.

This top is also one of my new favorites. The fabric is ultra soft, making the blouse super comfy. Love that! I also love the faux tie-dye pattern, and roll-up sleeves. It was easy to wear all day. I am looking forward to wearing it with jeans, and shorts, later in the summer season.

Have you tried the cropped pants trend yet? What are your thoughts?

Dream skirt for spring

I am always on the hunt for a lightweight, casual skirt I can wear during the spring season. If the skirt can transition into summer, or even fall, it is a huge plus! I am in love with this fabulous skirt by HD in Paris. I bought it for myself on Mother’s Day and cannot stop wearing it! Even if the weather is not quite warm enough for wearing it. 😉

This skirt offers a hem-like hemline which is asymmetrical and flattering. The fabric is lightweight and can easily be worn during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Love that! Since it is a shimmering chambray, it is easy to wear with almost any color; and easy to pair with different accessories. Another plus!

The fabric does wrinkle easily; which you can see in the photos above. I do not mind the wrinkles since they seem to go with the carefree and casual vibe of the skirt. I had been wearing the skirt for two hours at church before taking these pictures. My seven year old was fidgeting during church and crawling on me. I think the skirt looks pretty good after all that!

I will definitely be reaching for this skirt several days per week this season, and next; and next! It is really comfortable, easy to wear, and flattering. It turned out to be the perfect Mother’s Day gift to myself!

My apologies for not knowing the designer who created the beautiful long necklace I am wearing in these photos. I purchased this necklace about two years ago at an art fair and it is unmarked. If I see the designer again, I will definitely write down his name!
