Laura Mercier spring 2013 lipstick review

Lipstick for spring 2013 is going in two different directions; pale or bright. Pale lipstick works perfectly with the season’s hot “Mod” trend and also blends easily with spring’s colorful eye shadow trend. Pale lipstick is a fabulous way to keep your lipstick from competing with your blue or green eye shadow!

The bright lipstick trend is on the other side of the spring 2013 beauty spectrum. Bright lips work perfectly with light and neutral eye shadow; a huge trend when wearing prints or a neutral color palette this season.

Laura Mercier sent us two lipsticks for spring 2013 to test out; “60’s Pink” and “Girly.” Both lipsticks are light pink and work perfectly with the Mod trend. Love them!

“60’s Pink” is a pale pink hue which blends easily with colorful eye shadow. The shade also works with spring 2013’s bright color palettes, neon hues and vivid pastels. Love it!

“Girly” is a slightly darker pink than “60’s Pink.” “Girly” also works well with colorful eye shadow, but since the pink is slightly darker than “60’s Pink,” “Girly” can easily be worn with neutral eye shadow as well as a natural face.

Laura Mercier lipsticks are nourishing and do not dry out the lips. I wore “60’s Pink” and “Girly” on two different days for a full day. The lipsticks did not dry out my lips and kept their color for several hours. I rate Laura Mercier’s lipsticks five out of five stars!

I highly recommend “60’s Pink for spring/summer 2013; especially if you plan to wear bright hues, color blocking and/or the Mod trend. “Girly” is a fabulous, classic light pink hue which is a great staple to have in your lipstick collection for any season.

Dolce & Gabbana Passion Duo lipstick review

Dolce & Gabbana is one of the most important designing duos in the fashion industry, so it is no wonder that their cosmetics line would include the season’s newest and hottest colors. The “Passion Duo” lipstick collection by Dolce & Gabbana is a large line of thin lipsticks which offer two parts; lipgloss on the inside, creamy lipstick on the outside.

“Passion Duo” lipstick is packaged in a shiny, golden container which is slightly longer and thinner than other brands’ containers. This enables Dolce & Gabbana’s “Passion Duo” lipstick to fit nicely inside a small clutch, box clutch or any small handbag for easy mobility. I also noticed the lipstick is easy to apply with this size container.

When I first opened the “Passion Duo” lipstick container there was a faint, sweet powder scent which was fresh and feminine. This was a nice fragrance which I found to be pleasant in comparison to other lipstick brands which smell a bit waxy.

Dolce & Gabbana’s “Passion Duo” lipstick glides on smoothly without clumping and applies evenly. I tried three colors; “Tropical,” “Exotic” and “Royal.” All of the colors I tested glided on easily with one to two coats and provided full coverage.

There are some lipstick’s out there which need a lip balm or moisturizer applied underneath. This was not the case with Dolce & Gabbana’s “Passion Duo” lipstick. I applied all three of the colors I tested without any lip balm or moisturizer underneath and they all stayed moist without drying my lips or making my lips look chapped. This is a very important point and my favorite part about “Passion Duo!”

I found Dolce & Gabbana’s “Passion Duo” lipstick to be more on the creamy side rather than lipgloss side. The color saturation is amazing and the hues are vibrant. What you see in the container is the color that you see on your lips; this lipstick does not change color on you! Love that!

After testing Dolce & Gabbana’s “Passion Duo” lipsticks for ten days, I give them five out of five stars for being fabulous! By fabulous I mean perfect color saturation, moisturizing, nice scent and convienent packaging.

Dolce & Gabbana’s “Passion Duo” can be found at Saks Fifth Avenue Stores, Saks.com and atDolceGabbanaMakeUp.com. They are priced at $34 each

Cherry lips and purple lips: fall 2012 lipstick trends

The hottest beauty trend for the fall 2012 season is the cherry lip or the purple lip. Shades of red and purple lipstick have been at the forefront of beauty over the past few seasons, but for fall 2012, the slightly pink version of red known as cherry, and also shades of purple, are the ultimate in lip-color.

While nails for fall are in shades of nude, brown, purple and red, lips are standing out in sweet cherry and shades of purple. The lips have become the focal point for the fall 2012 season as light shades of purple, neutral hues, charcoal and even black are dressing the eyes and shades of cherry and pink adorn the cheeks. But all this dazzle around the eyes pales in comparison to the cherry lip and the purple lip for fall 2012.

Of course, not everyone looks fabulous in a cherry lip or dark purple lip, and many of us are too shy to wear a lip color which is bold and sexy. Thankfully the secondary lip colors for the fall 2012 are medium purples as well as deep, mature pinks and not-too-bright shades of fuchsia.

Our favorite shades of cherry for fall are Laura Mercier’s “Angelic,” “Haute Red” and “Red Amour” and Dolce & Gabbaba’s Classic Cream Lipstick in “Scarlet” and “Chromed.”

Of course we cannot forget shades of purple! Our favorite lipstick hues in purple, fuchsia and deep pink include Chanel Rouge Coco Culte which is limited edition and Dolce & Gabbana’s Passion Duo “Exotic.”

If cherry, purple, fuchsia and deep pink are not your thing, a pale or nude lip is still relevant and can look very en vogue with deep chocolate brown nail polish and a darker eye. So never fear, beauty is still a personal thing!

We found a few fabulous lipstick hues and assembled them into the Polyvore set below. Are you a cherry lip, a purple lip, or both this fall? Happy shopping and stay fabulous
