Cherry lips and purple lips: fall 2012 lipstick trends

The hottest beauty trend for the fall 2012 season is the cherry lip or the purple lip. Shades of red and purple lipstick have been at the forefront of beauty over the past few seasons, but for fall 2012, the slightly pink version of red known as cherry, and also shades of purple, are the ultimate in lip-color.

While nails for fall are in shades of nude, brown, purple and red, lips are standing out in sweet cherry and shades of purple. The lips have become the focal point for the fall 2012 season as light shades of purple, neutral hues, charcoal and even black are dressing the eyes and shades of cherry and pink adorn the cheeks. But all this dazzle around the eyes pales in comparison to the cherry lip and the purple lip for fall 2012.

Of course, not everyone looks fabulous in a cherry lip or dark purple lip, and many of us are too shy to wear a lip color which is bold and sexy. Thankfully the secondary lip colors for the fall 2012 are medium purples as well as deep, mature pinks and not-too-bright shades of fuchsia.

Our favorite shades of cherry for fall are Laura Mercier’s “Angelic,” “Haute Red” and “Red Amour” and Dolce & Gabbaba’s Classic Cream Lipstick in “Scarlet” and “Chromed.”

Of course we cannot forget shades of purple! Our favorite lipstick hues in purple, fuchsia and deep pink include Chanel Rouge Coco Culte which is limited edition and Dolce & Gabbana’s Passion Duo “Exotic.”

If cherry, purple, fuchsia and deep pink are not your thing, a pale or nude lip is still relevant and can look very en vogue with deep chocolate brown nail polish and a darker eye. So never fear, beauty is still a personal thing!

We found a few fabulous lipstick hues and assembled them into the Polyvore set below. Are you a cherry lip, a purple lip, or both this fall? Happy shopping and stay fabulous

Spring 2012 beauty trends: Pastel powders versus the dark lip

Beauty is taking on a natural yet colorful look for the warm, spring 2012 season. Colorful, yet pastel shades of green, orange and more are taking over the faces of Fashionistas everywhere and adding a soft, understated pop of color to an otherwise natural, glowing face. There is also one other dominant beauty trend for the new, warm weather season; the dark lip.

Colorful yet natural: Eyes, cheeks and lips are being shown with natural and light applications of pastel hues; giving color a new life in the beauty world. Chanel is showing shades of creamy orange for spring 2012 in the form of soft eye shadow and sheer lipsticks which add the slightest sheen of color in the quietest of ways. Many designers are showing pale shades of orange, red, pink and even green.

Understated smoky eye: Another look from the runways has been to combine a soft smoky eye with either sheer, barely detectable lip stick or a dark, almost vamp lip which is suitable for evening occasions.

The dark lip: Dark lips graced runways in Milan, New York and London and were dramatic when shown with summery whites and pale neutrals. This look was often paired with light eye makeup, or soft smoky eyes.

Pastel and soft colors for spring work perfectly with all of spring’s trends; making it easy to invest in a small amount of make-up and wear it with everything. Pastel eyeshadows, blushes and sheer lipsticks are the perfect way to not overpower bright and bold colors this spring, while also staying soft when worn with pastels. A dark lip will instantly spice up the look for heading out into the night.

The biggest challenge is finding the perfect hue for your overall wardrobe and that matches your skin-tone. Look for shades of soft green, orange and pink. And remember, if the colors of the season look funny on your skin, don’t be a fashion victim. Seek out neutrals shades and wait for the new colors of summer.
