Things to do in Seattle with kids

things to do in seattle with kid

Planning a vacation to Seattle, and wondering about things to do in Seattle with kids? Well, look no further! My family and I recently traveled to Seattle and found a few fabulous things to do in Seattle with kids which are sure to be a hit with your family too!

Seattle is a really fun city filled with history, a chill vibe, and a family-friendly atmosphere. We found the activities, and the people, to be friendly and welcoming. This is a great trip to plan as a family! Without further ado, here are the activities my kids loved; and us adults enjoyed too!

Things to do in Seattle with Kids: Argosy Cruises

We took a 1 hour cruise with Argosy Cruise Line. They have several types of cruises available, at varying time lengths. We found the one hour cruise to be perfect with kids. Anything longer, and they may have grown restless. The kids enjoyed being on a boat and taking a tour; but they did get tired, so one hour was perfect. You can get advance tickets here.

Things to do in Seattle with Kids:

Chihuly Garden and Glass

My middle child is very artistic, and really wanted to check out the Chihuly Garden and Glass. I was a little bit concerned that my other two children would find it boring, but I was wrong! All three of my kids thought the glass sculptures were really cool, and they enjoyed seeing both the indoor and outdoor portions of the exhibit.

There is a cafe attached to Chihuly, but understand it is on the pricey side; although the food is good. If you are looking for more affordable food, there is a food court across from the cafe, and there are also a handful of food carts. You can find advance tickets for Chihuly Garden and Glass online here.

Things to do in Seattle with Kids:

Museum of Pop Culture

My kids don’t normally enjoy museums, so I was a little bit concerned when we purchased five tickets to the Museum of Pop Culture. I was pleasantly pleased to find they had a special exhibit for Marvel, which we eagerly purchased the extra tickets for. My kids loved the Marvel exhibit, as well as the other exhibits in the museum. Above you will see a smashed guitar from a Nirvana performance, and Jimmi Hendrix’s carry-on bag. There was something for the whole family at the Museum of Pop Culture-loved it! You can find advance tickets online here.

Things to do in Seattle with Kids:

Klondike Gold Rush Museum

The Klondike Gold Rush Museum in Seattle is both educational and fun! Plus, it’s free because it is run by the National park Service. Love that!

Being from California, my kids already know about the gold rush, so it was fun for them to learn a little more then what they learned in school. They enjoyed seeing the exhibits and also watching a movie onsite about Seattle’s part in the Klondike gold rush. This is a must-see when visiting Seattle with kids. It’s great to see your children learn history, and have fun while doing it. Plus, it’s free! Yay! You can learn more online here.

Things to do in Seattle with Kids:

Seattle Great Wheel

The Seattle Great Wheel is a lot of fun. It goes around roughly three times, and you can see a beautiful view of Seattle from the top. It is a bit pricey for what you get; so if it doesn’t fit your budget, it’s something you can skip. On the pier, there is also a carousel and a few boardwalk-style games which are great for keeping the kids busy. You can learn more about the Great Wheel online here.

Things to do in Seattle with Kids:

Bill Speidel’s Undergound Tour

Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour was so much fun! My kids loved learning about Seattle history and going underneath the sidewalks to explore Seattle’s past and present. Our tour guide was entertaining and kept our kids interested. They learned a lot about the local history and had fun while doing it! It’s the first thing they tell their friends about when talking about their trip to Seattle. This is a must-see!

With kids, I recommend going in the morning and getting in one of the first tours of the day. There will be less people in the group and you can see everything without sorting through a large group. It’s easier to be in a small group with kids too. This was our favorite activity during our trip. Be sure to check it out, it’s worth every dime! You can learn more online here.

Things to do in Seattle with Kids:

Seattle Space Needle

The Seattle Space Needle is an iconic monument to see while in Seattle. You can see all of Seattle from the top, and my kids thought it was really cool. If you have small children, keep in mind that the lines are long, so try to go when they open in the morning. Also, it can be pricey, so using the Seattle City Pass might be a good idea. You can find one online here.

Seattle also has a zoo, and a Museum of Flight. We missed those attractions on our trip, but I have heard they are good too.

The Seattle City Pass is a great, money saving option if you plan to see multiple locations on this list. You can learn more about it online here.

These were our favorite things to do in Seattle with kids during our recent trip. Check out our favorite, family-friendly restaurants here. If you have family-friendly recommendations, feel free to leave them in the comments below!

Thanks for stopping by, and safe travels!

Keeping sports in the family

Sports have always been an important part of my life, and my husband’s life. My entire childhood was consumed with playing sports. I ice-skated, took gymnastics, ran track, played volleyball and tennis, cheered in high school; and eventually ended up swimming at the national level and training over twenty-five hours per week in the hopes of getting to the Olympics someday. While my Olympic dreams were dashed by a shoulder injury my junior year of high school, my love for sports, and everything participating in sports taught me, made me who I am today. Sports teach valuable life skills which help child athletes become successful adults.

Our whole family enjoys a variety of sports. My husband grew up playing baseball, football, basketball, tennis, and soccer. Our kids play volleyball, baseball, football, cheerleading, tennis, soccer, and field hockey. We love to encourage sports in our family because sports do more than keep us healthy; they teach us to live better lives and be better people. Sports teach teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship, hard work, and how to achieve your goals. I love to share this with my kids.

Sports teach us to work hard, no matter what happens. If an injury holds you back from one dream, you can always go after another dream or goal. Once we reach our goals, we can make new ones and continue to strive for more. We should always want more; and sports teaches us that. It teaches us that hard work pays off, and the harder you work, the more you can achieve.  My husband and I worked hard in sports growing up, and we learned that teamwork and sportsmanship goes beyond the field; it is an essential skill in the real world; particularly the workplace. This is what we try to teach to our children.

We encourage our kids to participate in sports not only to learn how to work hard to achieve goals, but to learn a strong work ethic, teamwork, and sportsmanship. My oldest daughter is on her high school varsity cheer squad where she works hard to stay in shape, so she can lift and throw other girls in the air. Cheerleading requires hard work and teamwork, which will ultimately make her a better adult when she is ready to enter the world. My middle child loves to play volleyball where she learns to work hard to be a better player and learns how important both teamwork and sportsmanship are. My youngest child is a hard-working baseball player who has learned that the more he practices, the better he plays. Baseball also instills in him teamwork and sportsmanship. I love seeing my husband share his childhood sport with our son.

In addition to team sports, we teach our kids to live a healthy lifestyle. Staying healthy not only helps them stay strong for the sports they play, it helps their overall well-being. We love wearing Adidas footwear and clothing for a variety of sports as well as activities such as family hikes. Adidas has been a part of myself, and my husband’s sporting lives; and our children have been wearing Adidas shoes and apparel since they kicked or threw their first ball. We love sharing our love of sports with our kids, all while wearing Adidas.

Cool nights in Tahoe with SOMA

wearing: mix and match pajamas c/o SOMA Intimates, from left: paisley top / royal blue shorts / royal blue shirt / navy crop lace pants / navy tie front tank / paisley pants /

There is nothing like getting cozy after a fun day playing in the Lake Tahoe area. Our family heads up to Tahoe several times per year, and we are always on the go when we are there. We tend to wake up early and go outside to play; whether we are doing snow sports or summer sports, we like to be the early bird. Since we always start our days early, we tend to get back to the house in the late afternoon or early evening; ready to relax!

Since we have been out all day, we are usually tired. In addition to being tired, the evenings tend to be cool; even in the summer. Since Tahoe is in the mountains, the summer evenings are very cool nights. Nothing feels better after a day of play then getting cozy in pajamas!

I am in LOVE with SOMA Intimates new “Cool Nights” summer pajamas. They are extremely soft and perfect for cool summer evenings. Since the collection offers mix and match styles, my daughter’s and I can match without matching while we relax after being outside all day.

We enjoyed lounging in our SOMA “Cool Nights” pajamas after a fun day which included a three hour morning hike along the Truckee river, lunch in Tahoe City, visiting the museums in Tahoe City, and then driving to the west side to sit along the lake and relax. My whole family was so tired after our day of play, it felt incredible to put on our SOMA “Cool Nights” pajamas and relax on the sofa.

The fabulous thing about SOMA’s new summer collection is that it is mix and match. The collection offers three different sleeve lengths, and the option to pair them with shorts or cropped pajamas pants. I love that I can find the perfect combination for the weather. I can pair a tank with cropped pants, or a tee with shorts, or longer short sleeves with shorts; the options are endless!

My daughters love their SOMA pajamas just as much as I do. They love to mix and match the pieces, and wear a different combo every night. It’s so nice to see my girls enjoy SOMA as much as I do. The collection really transcends age, and reaches across all style personalities. Love that!

These are the perfect PJ’s for summer! You can check out the entire collection online at SOMA.com.
