Sports have always been an important part of my life, and my husband’s life. My entire childhood was consumed with playing sports. I ice-skated, took gymnastics, ran track, played volleyball and tennis, cheered in high school; and eventually ended up swimming at the national level and training over twenty-five hours per week in the hopes of getting to the Olympics someday. While my Olympic dreams were dashed by a shoulder injury my junior year of high school, my love for sports, and everything participating in sports taught me, made me who I am today. Sports teach valuable life skills which help child athletes become successful adults.

Our whole family enjoys a variety of sports. My husband grew up playing baseball, football, basketball, tennis, and soccer. Our kids play volleyball, baseball, football, cheerleading, tennis, soccer, and field hockey. We love to encourage sports in our family because sports do more than keep us healthy; they teach us to live better lives and be better people. Sports teach teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship, hard work, and how to achieve your goals. I love to share this with my kids.

Sports teach us to work hard, no matter what happens. If an injury holds you back from one dream, you can always go after another dream or goal. Once we reach our goals, we can make new ones and continue to strive for more. We should always want more; and sports teaches us that. It teaches us that hard work pays off, and the harder you work, the more you can achieve.  My husband and I worked hard in sports growing up, and we learned that teamwork and sportsmanship goes beyond the field; it is an essential skill in the real world; particularly the workplace. This is what we try to teach to our children.

We encourage our kids to participate in sports not only to learn how to work hard to achieve goals, but to learn a strong work ethic, teamwork, and sportsmanship. My oldest daughter is on her high school varsity cheer squad where she works hard to stay in shape, so she can lift and throw other girls in the air. Cheerleading requires hard work and teamwork, which will ultimately make her a better adult when she is ready to enter the world. My middle child loves to play volleyball where she learns to work hard to be a better player and learns how important both teamwork and sportsmanship are. My youngest child is a hard-working baseball player who has learned that the more he practices, the better he plays. Baseball also instills in him teamwork and sportsmanship. I love seeing my husband share his childhood sport with our son.

In addition to team sports, we teach our kids to live a healthy lifestyle. Staying healthy not only helps them stay strong for the sports they play, it helps their overall well-being. We love wearing Adidas footwear and clothing for a variety of sports as well as activities such as family hikes. Adidas has been a part of myself, and my husband’s sporting lives; and our children have been wearing Adidas shoes and apparel since they kicked or threw their first ball. We love sharing our love of sports with our kids, all while wearing Adidas.
