On the fifth day of fashion week, the temperature rose from single digits, to a warm and cozy 20-something. (Insert sarcastic tone) It was freezing; let’s be frank. I kept myself bundled up in layers and felt perfectly comfortable in this outfit on the fifth day.

I absolutely adore this skirt by Diane Von Furstenberg. It is part of her spring 2015 collection, so I am looking forward to wearing it more often this spring, and into the summer season.

This bracelet by Kendra Scott is a new favorite of mine. Since blue is my favorite color, and shades of blue are popular for the upcoming spring and summer seasons, I know this bracelet will be worn almost everyday; it already is being worn almost everyday! Kendra Scott also has other pastels for spring in her collection including pink and mint green. Love that!

I was a little disappointed in the color palette for the fall 2015 season. There was hardly any blue! Of course there was classic autumn navy on the runways, but not very much blue. So, I am definitely going to try and get my blue fill this spring and summer! What is your favorite color to wear?

Fall 2015 trends from the New York Fashion Week runways

The last model has walked off the runways in New York, leaving the fashion world with an entirely new set of trends to ponder for the upcoming fall/winter 2015/2016 season. The color palette has changed, hemlines have dipped, and vintage influences have crept into our future fall closets. Here are a few significant trends from the New York Fashion Week runways for fall 2015.

Fashion Trends

The dominant trends on the New York Fashion Week runways for fall 2015 were a nod to the school yard, and the 1970’s. Designers favored plaid, floral accents, midi and maxi skirt lengths, and wide leg trousers. Culottes made their back onto the runways after debuting for spring 2015; and jumpsuits also reappeared for the fall season. Jumpers with blouses underneath were a new look on the runways for fall; offering a fresh style for the cool weather season.

For evening occasions, look for full skirts, trains, lace details, and backless styles.

Handbags

The mini satchel, and the mini bag took a hiatus from the runways in New York for fall 2015. Designers opted for medium sized bags in neutral colors as well as matchy-matchy prints. Look for soft totes, structured medium satchels; black, black and more black.

Shoes

Gone are the days of the dainty shoe. Designers showed high heels booties in mixed media and color blocking. With 1970’s looks and menswear inspired ensembles on the runways, designers opted for heavy, industrial inspired shoes with lug soles, as well as classic Doc Martens.

Beauty

Blue nail polish is back! In addition to shades of medium and dark blue on the fingertips of models walking the catwalk in New York, designers showed nail hues in burgundy, beige, and dark hues. Also, big hair is a current street style trend which made its way onto the New York runway for fall 2015. Look for big hair, don’t care looks.

Accessory Details

With school-girl chic, and nods to the 1970’s on the runways for fall/winter 2015, designers showed details such as ties, suspenders, socks peeking out from loafers and boots; as well as gold-tone metals and accents.

Color Trends

Designers showed unexpected hues such as fuchsia and pastel pink. In addition to these feminines hues, many designers opted for traditional, dark autumnal hues in purple, teal, navy, mustard, and shades of brown.

For evening, designers showed black and red together with gold accents.

There you have it! It should be interesting to see which of these trends his the streets after walking the runways in New York. It will also be interesting to see which trends appear on the runways in London, Paris, and Milan for the fall 2015 season. Which trends do you like for fall 2015?

Desigual showed their fall/winter 2015 collection at New York Fashion Week on Thursday, February 12, 2015 in The Theater at Lincoln Center. The collection included bright, geometric patterns, playful textures, and multicolored patterns reflective of cultures from around the globe. Monsieur Christian Lacroix’s Desigual studio created a collection for fall 2015 which embodied the brand’s motto “La Vida es Chula” which means “life is cool.” Many cultures come together in Monsieur Lacroix’s Desigual studio, therefore, the fall 2015 collection reflects these crossroads.

On Desigual’s fall 2015 runway we see reflections of folk art crafts, lush landscapes, works of art from around the globe, Northern European history, African art, and embroidery from around the world. The collection “embodies the multiplicity of a woman, and women everywhere.”

I love how the collection came together. The prints and color palette offer a playful taste of the worlds’ artistic culture, and how it can be expressed through sartorial means.
