The last model has walked off the catwalk in New York for fall 2018, and the fashion world is left with a whole new set of trends to covet for the next cold weather season. While some trends from spring 2018 proved to have staying power into fall 2018, many others fell by the wayside. To replace them, new trends have emerged for fall 2018, and they are nothing short of fabulous.

There are so many hot trends for the fall 2018 season from New York Fashion Week, I could write a book! So, to streamline things, here are the top five trends for fall 2018 from the New York Fashion Week runways.

New York Fashion Week handbag trends fall 2018: small circle and box bags

Small bags dominated the runways for fall/winter 2018/2019. The most spotted type of runway handbags for the new cold weather season were small circle bags, and small box bags. These two styles also proved to be hot on the streets for spring 2018 at New York Fashion Week, so these are the two handbag styles to invest in now; just don’t wear them cross body! Over the shoulder, or hand-held please!

Ultra Violet may be the color of the year, and it did make an appearance on the runways, but the real color stars on the fall 2018 runways at New York Fashion Week were yellow, blue, and green. Look for bold shades of royal and midnight blue, mustard, soft sunshine, military green, and light forest green. Red is sitting happily in 4th place.

Gone are the days of basic long sleeves. Sleeves for fall 2018 are pumped up. Look for varying shapes of volume in sleeves and shoulders; as well as separated or partly detached sleeves. Sleeves and shoulders are your way to make a statement this fall.

Classic trench coats are all well and good, but for fall 2018 look for the redefined trench coat. Coats are belted with exaggerated lines, shoulders, and sleeves. Look for a statement making trench coat this fall!

While metallic handbags and clothing have faded into the background for fall 2018, metallic shoes are staying strong. Look for silver shoes and metallic autumn colors on footwear.

Of course, there are way more then five trends from the New York Fashion Week runways for the fall/winter 2018/2019 season. These just happen to be the five most noticeable trends from the runways. The decades of influence were the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. In addition to these trends, look for more purple, plaid, ponchos, open toe shoes, pointy toe shoes, ankle boots, small satchels, handheld handbags, berets, hooded outerwear, fur trimmed hoods, athleisure, urban influences, soft prints, ankle length skirts, full length trousers and pants (no more cropped), beadwork, brown and orange worn together, blue and purple worn together, natural makeup looks, sleek hairstyles, peplum, and more!

Street style handbags New York Fashion Week February 2018

It is one thing to spot trends on the runways at New York Fashion Week, it is another thing to spot what people are wearing on the runway designers want their handbags to be seen on; the street.

Since fashion week in February has a combination of winter weather, and guests wanting to rock the latest spring trends, the only thing people can really wear without worrying about ice on the sidewalk, or snow falling from the sky, is a handbag. The spring 2018 handbags were out in full force at New York Fashion Week fall 2018! Yes!

I took careful notes of what people were carrying when attending the shows at New York Fashion Week. The street style handbags from New York Fashion Week will dictate which handbag trends will dominate the spring season, and which designer bag will gain the coveted “IT” status of the season. I have to admit, I was a little surprised to see the handbag patterns on the street!

Didn’t we say something about the death of the mini bag? Weren’t they going away? Well, they are going away, unless they are shaped like a circle or a box, then, they are not going away. That’s right! The streets of New York Fashion Week have spoken. Small or mini circle bags, and box bags, are all the rage for spring 2018; just don’t wear them cross body, that’s so last year.

Of course, there is more to street style handbags then small circles and boxes; the fashion set was also spotted wearing the Gucci Dionysus, Gucci Marmont, Chloe Nile, Chanel Boy Bag (it’s making a resurgence!), and any style of Louis Vuitton. Is Louis going to have a moment? It is so very 1990s. . .speaking of the 1990s. . .

Oh GenerationX, I hope you kept your mini backpack! Unfortunately, mine is long gone. <sign> Mini backpacks were everywhere on the streets of New York Fashion Week. Look for mini backpacks this season in bright colors, metallic hues, and funky fabrications. Free up those hands girl and dance! Speaking of free hands. . .

American tourists in white tennis shoes will rejoice at the third biggest trend in street style handbags from New York Fashion Week. The fanny pack is back from the 1980s, and it is not your typical touristy, nylon fanny pack. Sometimes called “belt bags,” the fanny pack was everywhere at fashion week, and it was Gucci. Don’t even bother getting a different designer or brand; it’s Gucci, or look like a cheesy American tourist, your choice.

Can we circle back to Louis Vuitton? For guests who need more space in their handbags during fashion week, the two bags I spotted the most often were the Louis Vuitton Neverfull, and the good ol’ fashion week standby; the Givenchy Antigona. In general, workhorse fashion week bags offered two top handles, a medium size, a neutral hue, or a metallic color. The bright colors were reserved for the smaller bags such as the circles, boxes, and <gasp> fanny packs.

The most spotted bags in these categories were the Gucci fanny pack, the MCM box bag, Louis Vuitton Neverful, Givenchy Antigona, Gucci Dionysus, anything from the Gucci Marmont family, Brahmin Lane Melbourne, Chloe Pixie, Chloe Nile, and the Chanel Boy bag. Which IT bag is your favorite?

New York Fashion Week is underway, and this means the hottest new trends for the fall/winter 2018/2019 season are being shown to us! Of course, my favorite trend to know about ahead of time are the trends in colors.

Pantone has released their seasonal color report today, showing us the top ten colors for the fall 2018 season, as well as the top five neutral or “classic” hues we need to be wearing in the fall 2018 season, and in winter 2019!

Of course, we knew we would see the color of 2018 in the color palette for the next cold weather season; Ultra Violet. In addition to lavender, and ultra violet, designers are showing both a fall yellow hue, and a bright, cherry yellow shade. Yellow has been emerging over the past couple of seasons as an important color in fashion; this means it is time to start adding this happy hue to our wardrobes! If you don’t like to wear yellow, try a handbag or a pair of shoes!

My favorite colors from the palette are Ultra Violet, Nebulas Blue, and Quetzal Green. Which colors are you drawn towards?

Is anyone else glad to see that blush has finally dropped off the color palette? It’s a pretty color, but seemed to stick around too long; in my opinion.

Stay tuned! I am in New York attending fashion week, and will bring you runway coverage as the week progresses.

Thanks for stopping by!
