Spring is in the air! While it is still winter outside, many of us are looking at spring for our closets to brighten up our days. The easiest way to wear a little bit of spring, and cheerfulness right now, is with spring lipstick and spring nail polish.

Another way we are all updating our wardrobes is with grey handbags. Since grey is 50% of the color of 2021, a grey handbag is an easy way to modernize our wardrobes for 2021. I’m loving this workhorse cross body bag, which happens to be a classic IT bag, and this fabulous, soft satchel; a current IT bag.

The square toe is hotter than hot for spring, and these spring mules are perfect for early spring; and throughout the season. I love the sculpted, stacked heel on them too. Stay tuned-they are part of my spring shoe capsule coming to the blog later this month!

Puffy sleeves are huge this year! They were all over the runways for both the spring/summer 2021 and fall/winter 2021/22 seasons. This means a puffy sleeve top, or a dress, is a fabulous investment for the year. I love this black, long sleeve puffy sleeve top for transitioning from winter into spring. It will be great on cooler spring and summer nights when the fog rolls in too. Loving it!

Outdoor fitness is hot, and will continue to be from now into the summer. These running shoes are fabulous for running, walking, and working out. I use mine for all of them!

Fall 2021 color trends from Pantone and NYFW

Well, the fall looks bright! New York designers are looking towards a bright and cheery autumn season, which will stay bright and cheerful through the winter 2022 season. We should expect fun, lighthearted color combos on store shelves for fall 2021, which evoke feelings of happiness, hope, and exuberance. After all, by the time fall hits store shelves, the majority of us should be vaccinated, and this pandemic should be behind us. Fingers crossed!

There is noting like bright colors to lift one’s mood; especially yellow which is proven to lighten the mood. I’m looking forward to mixing light neutrals with bright hues when temperatures start to cool off in the autumn season. It will be a different feeling than the usually dark and somber fall season. We should all be cheerful and living the good life as things return to normal. Again, fingers crossed!

I think Fuchsia Fedora for all is a fabulous idea, and I also find myself drawn to Mykonos Blue, and Spring Lake. Those are definitely my three favorite colors from the fall 2021 palette. Now, let’s chat neutrals:

These have to be the lightest fall neutrals I have witnessed in my career. They look like spring colors! While olive is a traditional fall shade, this one is lighter; like a spring olive hue rather than an autumn color. I think it will be fun to see how designers use it on cool weather clothing. I love the light mood for fall!

Well, there you have it. Like spring, designers are keeping a cheery color palette for 2021, and defying traditional autumn hues. I love the happy and uplifting colors we are seeing for autumn, and I look forward to brightening cold winter days in something bright, like Fuchsia Fedora! What do you think?

Not packed for NYFW aka American Collections Calendar take two

You might be looking at the title of this post and asking, what in the world??? Yes, I said the same thing when I heard that New York Fashion Week, or should I say the CFDA, had renamed their calendar to the “American Collections Calendar.” Since many designers who show at New York Fashion Week actually come from various parts of the United States, the CFDA decided to rebrand the agenda and name the schedule of runway shows/presentations the “American Collections Calendar.” After all, designers no longer show all together, in one compact week. They show before and after the designated week; and then they trickle into the following month. This makes the schedule less of a week, and more of a season.

I have mixed feelings about the new name. The name “New York Fashion Week” doesn’t need to be literal. It has a historical vibe, and blends well with the other fashion runway events around the world; most of which use the (city name + fashion week) formula. It appears, for now, the event is still referred to as New York Fashion Week, but the schedule has taken a name change to be more inclusive to designers from throughout the United States, as well as those who show outside the traditional NYFW dates.

The American Collections Calendar shows designer shows scheduled February 2, 2021 through April 15, 2021. The bulk of the shows, which would traditionally be referred to as part of New York Fashion Week, will occur on February 15, 2021 through February 17, 2021. Since the shows are predominantly virtual this season, they have been consolidated into three days instead of the usual six or seven day calendar. That being said, there are a handful of shows a few days before and after those three, jam-packed days.

The fall/winter 2021 collections will be shown mostly virtually again this season, with the hopes of returning to more of an in-person, normal event in September 2021. This means the shows will, once again, be more accessible to fashion fans everywhere since they can be viewed online. Although many designers are sending out invitations for their virtual runway shows, the shows can still be viewed  Runway360. You can watch along with me again this year! Love that!
