Art for AIDS raises much needed funds for the UCSF AIDS Health Project

Art for AIDS took place Friday night at The Galleria at the San Francisco Design Center and attracted a large crowd ready to bid on amazing artwork in order to help raise money for the UCSF AIDS Health Project. The event started at 6pm and guests arrived within the fifteen minutes of the doors opening. By 6:15pm, the venue was packed with an enthusiastic and friendly crowd perusing the artwork which was up for bid.

Art for AIDS offered a generous buffet and hosted bar which helped keep the lively atmosphere alive. There were three main sections for the silent auction which included the “Red Section” for Mixed Media, the “Blue Section” for Photography and the “Purple Section” for paintings. Within the first half-hour of the event, the majority of silent auction items attracted multiple bidders and the bidding wars ensued.

The live auction kicked off with a once-in-lifetime live performance by Franc D’Ambrosio who thrilled the crowd with “Phantom of the Opera.” After his performance, the first live auction item was an oil and acrylic on canvas painted by the singer himself.

The live auction generated a lot of enthusiasm and items earned multiple bids, many of which went well over their expected value. This is good news for the UCSF AIDS Health project which directly benefits from the funds raised during the Art for AIDS event.

The UCSF AIDS Health Project works hard to provide emotional support and psychological support for HIV patients. The testing services and health services provided by the UCSF AIDS Health Project are invaluable to the community and rely largely on donated funds.

Bay Area Fashion Week features local and national designers while raising money to end hunger

Bay Area Fashion Week took place Saturday night at San Jose State University and raised much-needed funds for Second Harvest Food Bank and Mainitnons Sa Amerika. Both charities work hard to ensure everyone has a meal on their plate. 

The first annual Bay Area Fashion Week was a two hour, fashion and charity extravaganza which featured fashion from local designers such as LHC Couture and ahr.es.ihm as well as national designers from shops at Santana Row, Valley Fair Mall and the Great Mall of Milpitas.

Bay Area Fashion Week also featured celebrities including Miss World-Canada, Riza Santos, who was on hand to help raise money for the cause and model in the runway show. Comedian and Mix 106.5 DJ Sandy Stec hosted the event and opened with a comic routine that kept the crowd falling off of their chairs in laughter.

D&G makes its final walk down the runway for spring 2012 at Milan Fashion Week

Dolce & Gabbana sent their last D&G collection down the spring/summer 2012 runway during Milan Fashion Week yesterday, leaving tears in the eyes of Fashionistas everywhere. The D&G line, which is the bridge line to Dolce & Gabbana’s main collection, is a collection filled with fashion-forward, mainly casual attire which offers designer quality and design at moderate price points; $200+. The D&G collection has always been loved well by Fashionistas and although still expensive, has been one of the more attainable designer lines.

The spring 2012 collection was bittersweet as models walked the runway in vivid and colorful prints. Dolce & Gabbana created an amazing collection for spring 2012 yet the line gave off a wistful vibe as the fashion world knew it would be the last time the bridge line would be sent down the runway. Dolce & Gabbana announced at the runway show that they have decided to retire the D&G line in order to focus thier efforts on their main designer line. A moment of silence please.
