Fall 2012 fashion trends: shades of green

Green was one of the most important colors for the spring/summer 2012 season and the vibrant hue is showing no sign of slowing down for the fall/winter 2012/2013 season. While the spring/summer season gave Fashionistas varying shades of medium green and mint green, the fall season is offering up more shades of medium green, traditional autumn dark green, forest green and some military green.

Green for fall 2012 is an easy hue to wear since it blends well with fall’s navy trend, dark blue trend and works well with both brown and black neutral hues. Green also plays well with ivory, winter white and eggshell shades which are also part of the neutral fall 2012 color palette.

There are many ways to wear and incorporate green into one’s fall 2012 wardrobe. Green accessories are an easy way to add the color to your wardrobe without going out and buying several outfits or separate’s. Green handbags and shoes are all the rage for fall 2012 as well as green hued gemstones on jewelry such as jade, tsavorite garnet, some opals, green sapphire, malachite, tourmaline, emerald, peridot and chrysoprase.

Fall 2012 fashion trends: Shades of dark blue and navy

Neiman Marcus has declared Navy Blue the “new neutral” for the fall 2012 season. Here at Bay Area Fashionista, we could not agree more. Shades of blue, from vivid medium blue through to navy, were spotted on the runways in Milan, Paris, London and New York; and store buyers seem to have stocked their shelves with the hue for the fall season.

Blue and navy blue are considered pleasant colors and tend to look fabulous on every skin tone, and with every hair color imaginable. Blue and navy are also easy shades to match with other colors and neutral tones. Navy blue and blue are being shown on everything imaginable including shoes, handbags, clothing and jewelry. In fact, lapis jewelry has become immensely popular and is an easy way to invest in something classic which also fits perfectly into the dark blue trend for fall 2012.

The one thing to consider when shopping for blue or navy, or pulling out an accessory or garment from a previous season, is the shade of navy or blue. Try to stay away from extremely dark navy blues which are difficult to tell apart from black. The lighter shade of navy is what is hot for fall 2012. Also, make sure your garment or accessory is not obviously from the spring season. Stay away from anything with ropes or with a nautical feel for fall.

Black and white for spring 2012

The Black and white trend is huge for spring 2012. Designers from New York, Paris, Milan and London paired black with white on their spring 2012 runways and showed the neutral color combination on both classic garments as well as in color blocked “of-the-moment” ensembles. While wearing black and white is considered a classic combination, the two tone look is hotter than normal this season and provides the perfect contrast to the season’s bright colors and sweet pastels.

Black and white is popping up in every way imaginable for the spring 2012 season. Designers are showing black and white shoes, handbags, jewelry and of course apparel. Black and white ensembles can be worn alone, or they can be spiced up with a bright orange handbag or cobalt blue pumps.

No matter how black and white is worn, whether color blocked, alone or spiced up with one colorful item, the black with white trend is hot. So hot, that black and white was also spotted on a few fall runways, showing the world that this trend is here to stay through the year. Love that!
