Supima held their spring 2017 design challenge at New York Fashion Week on September 8, 2016 at the Skylight Clarkson in New York. Supima’s contest featured six emerging designers from around the United States who created their designs from raw, Supima cotton materials. It was incredible!
The emerging designers were Duston Jasso, Jiyeon Lee, Kara Michelle Kroeger, Jacob Blau, Jaqueline Zeyi Chen, and Jeffrey Taylor. The celebrity judges included Kyle Anderson, Moti Ankari, Ann Caruso, Malina Gilchrist, Avril Graham, Carmen Lilly, Julia Loomis, Federica Marchionni, Alicia Quarles, Cameron Silver, Mary Alice Stephenson, Lilliana Vasquez, and Katherine Zarella. The designer mentor was none other than the fabulous Bibhu Mohapatra. Love him!
I loved everything on the runway. It was amazing how the designers took raw Supima materials, and transformed them into stunning evening attire. The prints, texture, and silhouettes were beyond amazing. My favorite designs were from Jeffrey Taylor, and Jacob Blau. Jeffrey Taylor’s dresses were wearable, timeless, and simply perfect. Jacob Blau pushed the envelope and showed edgy designs which questioned what one wears for evening events. I am obsessed with his plaid coat featured in the photos above. Love!
Jeffrey Taylor from the Savannah College of Art and Design won the competition. Every single one of his pieces were perfect. I hope we can see his designs in stores such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue someday! I would buy them in a heartbeat!
