Muir Woods family hike

wearing: blue tee / backpack (old, also love this one) / black belt / jeans / nail polish / statement earrings / hiking boots (old, also love this pair) /

If you are local to the San Francisco Bay Area, there is a good chance you have visited Muir Woods at some point in your life. If not, what are you waiting for? People from around the world make it a point to visit Muir Woods when they travel to San Francisco, so definitely make sure it gets on your to do list!

Muir Woods is filled with old growth redwood trees, many of which have been around for hundreds and hundreds of years. There have also been historical events which occurred at Muir Woods such as when the UN met in San Francisco to get organized, they visited Muir Woods and even took a picture!

Since Muir Woods is such a popular destination, a reservation system has been put in place for visitors. I have to admit, I love the reservation system. I remember when you just showed up on a whim. The parking lot would be gridlock and there would be way too many people on the trails. With the reservation system, traffic is controlled, and the trails are not crowded. It really is better for the environment as well as the overall experience. Love it!

Speaking of the trails, there is a trail for every hiking level at Muir Woods. You can walk along the flat trail and learn about the history of the park, or you can wander onto one of the many trails which take your through the park. We found a trail which was moderately challenging and took two hours to complete.

You can learn more about Muir Woods and make reservations at GoMuirWoods.com. Be sure to print your tickets at home, there isn’t any cell service at Muir Woods.

I recommend getting an early morning reservation to beat the summer heat. This will clear up your afternoon so you can explore Marin County, or head back into the city to play tourist.

Enjoy your visit and also bring a water bottle, wear hiking boots, and watch for ticks.

Thanks for stopping by!

Summer capsule wardrobe 2024

summer outfit ideas capsule wardrobe

Summer capsule wardrobe from top left: black top / blue sweater / printed tee / striped shorts / black trousers / summer dress / black belt / silver hoops / golden hoops / striped dress / flare jeans /

My casual summer capsule wardrobe is assembled! This year, we are moving away from denim heavy capsules, despite the return of denim on denim looks. So, I decided to incorporate shorts this summer which are a bit dressier than my usual denim cut-offs. I am in love with these striped shorts! They elevate a casual look, offering a put together outfit which is still comfortable. Love that!

Summer dresses are also big in my capsule wardrobe this year. I love a lightweight, casual dress which helps keep you cool during the warm summer months.

For my summer capsule wardrobe, I pulled a few items from my spring capsule and lighted things up with short sleeves, summer dresses, and dressy shorts. These looks can be dressed up or down with footwear and handbags. Love!

Summer internship capsule wardrobe

what to wear to a summer internship
summer internship capsule wardrobe

College student summer internship capsule wardrobe from top left: blue blouse / navy blazer / classic black loafer / silver hoops / golf shirt / black tote / navy trousers /

Summer vacation is here! Do you have a college student heading off to an internship with a closet full of college tee’s, sweatshirts, pajama pants, sweatpants, jeans, and shorts? Yup, me too! This means your college student, and mine, will need a few office appropriate wardrobe staples to get through the summer. So, I put together a summer internship capsule wardrobe for my daughter, and yours!

The key part of a summer internship capsule wardrobe is to make everything mix and match, as well as not go out of style. This is important because your daughter can wear these items again next summer, and also when she starts her real job after graduation. They can also be worn for on campus career events during the school year.

I recommend one simple suit. Since it gets warm here in the summer, we opted for a summer suit in navy; not linen, just lighter weight than a wool suit. This way she can get away with wearing it during the school year for on campus career events. A navy suit can be mixed and matched with other pants and the trousers can be worn alone with a blouse for a business casual look. A suit can be broken up into multiple outfits, making it the base of the capsule wardrobe.

To keep things simple, we picked up two blouses and three golf shirts. This is a one-week wardrobe. All of the tops match the navy suit in shades of blue, green, and beige. This eliminates needing to think in the morning since everything matches. After all, college students are not typically morning people.

College students tend to live in sneakers and flip flops, so I would only invest in one pair of comfortable and classic shoes. We went with classic black loafers. She can wear these for years and they are comfortable. Perfect!

One useful work tote is ideal for a summer internship. It fits an iPad or notepad for note taking, snacks, and everything she will need for a day at work. If you have an extra tote to lend her, that’s the best way to go. If not, I would invest in a classic black work tote such as the one pictured. She will get a ton of use out of it both during summer internships and when she starts her career after graduation. It is the perfect investment bag for a college student with big goals!
