Exploring Boalsburg PA

This was out fifth day of our vacation, and we had a slow start. We decided to grab brunch instead of having breakfast and then lunch. We enjoyed a hearty brunch at The Original Waffle Shop where there is always a line to get in, but somehow, we got lucky and arrived slightly after the rush. Loved it!

After brunch, we took off in our rental car and headed over to Boalsburg. It is a historic village known as the birthplace of Memorial Day. This is an important holiday where we remember everyone who paid the ultimate price for our country. So, it was nice to be able to see the birthplace in person and get a little history lesson at the same time.

This statue commemorates the birth of Memorial Day as it memorializes the three women who started the holiday. The statue is located at the Boalsburg cemetery and offers a historical marker explaining the meaning of the statue and how Memorial Day got started. It is a must-see in Centre County!

Another must-see in Boalsburg is the museum! It has two main parts which include the mansion and also the Columbus Chapel. Apparently, the Boal family is descendant from Christopher Columbus! Isn’t that amazing?! They have a small museum on-site with the history and artifacts related to Christopher Columbus. In the off season, it is by appointment only, so definitely call before you go! That being said, you must go!

Do you like to hike? Mt Nittany is a fabulous hiking spot. Just make sure you have actual hiking boots, my sneakers were not right so we ended up not hiking. The trail is rocky so boots are a must. I’ll pack them in my suitcase for next time!

Lastly, be sure to enjoy dinner at Duffy’s Tavern. It was built in 1819 and has been in business for about two hundred years. It feels like you’ve been transported back in time when you dine there. Loved it! Be sure to check it out!

What I wore to Boalsburg:

Well, that’s it! Be sure to visit Boalsburg next time you are in Central Pennsylvania!

Harrisburg is the capitol of Pennsylvania, so we had to check it out! We explored the government buildings and historical architecture, as well as the beautiful waterfront. What a pretty city! We need to go back and check out the museums too.

After Harrisburg, we drove over to Hershey PA for dinner. I mean, who doesn’t want to eat dinner in a chocolate themed restaurant? I know I do! Love!

Before dinner, we went to the Hershey Museum and learned all about how Hershey started his chocolate empire and also the history of the company and chocolate itself. What an amazing museum! If you ever visit Pennsylvania, be sure to head over to the Hershey Museum. It is an amazing experience!

After the museum, we went to the Hershey company store to shop for, you guessed it, chocolate! Check out this “snack sized” Kit Kat!

We ended up purchasing a few different types of Hershey Kisses as well as some small samples of flavors we don’t normally see in stores. Then, we headed over to the restaurant for dinner, The Chocolatier.

I enjoyed a cotton candy soda, mushroom risotto, and we shared a chocolate dessert at the end of the night. It was really fun, and the food was yummy. I would definitely go back. Loved it!

So, next time you visit Pennsylvania, definitely check out Hershey, Hersheypark, The Chocolatier, and the museum! Love!

Thanks for stopping by,

Exploring Bellefonte PA

wearing: pink earrings / long sleeve top / winter coat / wide leg jeans / spring nail polish / east/west bag / sneakers /

So, I heard about this amazing Italian Cafe named Bonfatto’s located in Bellefonte. Since we had never visited the Centre County, county seat, we decided to explore Bellefonte for a day.

Bonfatto’s did not disappoint. We enjoyed perfectly made coffees and a delicious lunch. Mine was a latte and my daughter enjoyed a cappuccino. Next, we ordered lunch. We both enjoyed their Bolognese which came with a salad. The cheese in the salad was amazing! The whole food experience was 10/10. We also brought a few pastries from their shop back to the hotel to enjoy later that evening. This place was so good! We plan to go back for more yummy food! Love!

In addition to food, we decided to explore Bellefonte. We left our car by the cafe and walked into town. There was a beautiful monument commemorating all of the governors who came from Bellefonte, including one from California! We were excited to see our state represented on their monument! There are more governors on the other side of the monument, my photo only shows one side.

We continued into town only to discover everything was closed since it was Sunday. I always forget about this when I am traveling. Nevertheless, we gave ourselves a walking tour of the monuments, historical buildings and landmarks, as well as the natural views. What a beautiful place! We definitely plan to go back when everything is open, not on a Sunday!

So, if you love history, historical architecture, and would love to enjoy an Italian Cafe, go visit Bellefonte!

Thanks for stopping by!
