Kendra Scott’s winter 2016 collection “Mirror Mirror” is here! I am so excited about this jewelry collection. I was able to view it before it hit store shelves when I visited Kendra Scott’s showroom in New York during fashion week. It is so beautiful, I am so glad it is here to share!

The collection combines an ethereal vibe with an edgy flair, which translates into a fashion-forward, yet timeless, collection. Love that!

The Mirror Mirror collection offers a little something for everyone this winter season. There are delicate pieces in opals, iridescent pastels, and neutral druzy’s; as well as seasonless gold, silver, and rose gold. There are delicate pieces, chunky pieces, and pieces begging to be layered.

In addition to stand-alone pieces, Kendra Scott winter 2016 offers sets. These sets come in stackable rings, and small stud earrings. They are both perfect for the new trend towards layering rings, and layering earrings.

I am in love with the stud earring sets! As a GenXer, I still have my double piercings in my ears from the late 80’s, early 90’s. I took the earrings out of my second holes when I worked in the financial district in the mid to late 90’s, and having multiple earrings in one’s ear was against dress code. Ha! Remember office dress codes? I  used to wear a suit everyday! But I digress. . .

The stacked earring trend is back. It can be worn with multiple piercings in one’s ear, or it can be worn with ear crawlers, and ear cuffs. You don’t need all those holes anymore! Of course, since I have them. . .I am eyeing Kendra Scott’s new stud earring sets for winter 2016 because they are perfect for layering! I would love to wear them in my second holes.

I have already indulged in a few pieces from Kendra Scott’s winter 2016 collection, “Mirror Mirror.” I have more pieces on my wish list! Good thing Christmas is coming up, maybe Santa will bring them? A girl can wish right?

Betsey Johnson spring 2016 New York Fashion Week

Betsey Johnson sent her spring/summer 2016 collection down the New York Fashion Week runway on September 11, 2015. This was no ordinary Betsey Johnson spring 2016 collection, this was her 50th anniversary celebration collection; which was beyond any other runway performance at fashion week.

Although my photos are not very good since I was sitting towards the back, you can see there was fun to be had on the runway. Betsey Johnson featured segments on her runway which celebrated themes from decades throughout her career. The models walked down the right side of the runway, then back up the left, then they stepped onto a platform runway which was placed in the middle of the regular runway; and they walked down that, then stood in line dancing! It was unlike any runway show I have seen thus far.

When all of the models were dancing on the raised runway at the end of each segment, Betsey Johnson told a poem which related to the decade theme of the segment. The themes were playful, saucy, and downright fun! Isn’t that what Betsey Johnson is all about? FUN!

Throughout the decades, Betsey Johnson played with prints, color, bold accessories, and silhouettes. The spring 2016 collection evoked the correct vibe for each decade, yet offered something fresh and modern on each piece. This made the collection ideal to wear, while feeling a little bit of historical significance with each piece. This fusion between modernity and historical fashion is hard to achieve, of course, Betsey achieved it effortlessly. Love it!

Of course, to close the show, in true Betsey Johnson style, she came down to the end of the runway surrounded in large silver balloons which read “50.” At the end of the runway, Betsey herself did one of her signature cartwheels which had the crowd standing, cheering, and clapping on their feet. I have never been at a fashion show where people stand and cheer like they are at football game before. It is amazing how Betsey Johnson knows how to bring the FUN into fashion. Which is what fashion is really about. It is wearable art which expresses who you are; so why not be fun!

Nicole Miller sent her spring/summer 2016 collection down the New York Fashion Week runway on September 11, 2015. The collection was playful, edgy, and street art inspired. Loved it!

To compliment Nicole Miller’s spring 2016 runway collection’s edgy vibe, butter LONDON’s lead manicurist, Katie Jane Hughes, created a cutting-edge nail art design which worked perfectly; both complimenting and completing the collection.  According to Katie Jane Hughes, “I created this bold nail look to play off of the street art inspired clothing in the collection. Black nails and edgy details are going to be a trend for spring. Spring beauty this season isn’t about playing by the rules.”

The result was amazing. The nails offered a graphic, splatter-effect with a pop of color which mimicked bold street art and graffiti found throughout Nicole Miller’s spring 2016 collection.

Since this nail look was so fabulous, Katie Jane Hughes and butter LONDON have shared with us the backstage secret to re-creating Nicole Miller’s spring 2016 runway nail look at home! Here are the amazing tips, using nail polish from butter LONDON:

Designer: Nicole Miller

Lead Manicurist: Katie Jane Hughes

The Scoop: The graphic, splatter-effect nail art featured a pop of color that mimics the bold street art and graffiti patterns found throughout the collection.

The Design – here’s how Katie created the look:

  1. Apply two coats Nail Lacquer in Cotton Buds.
  2. Dip a bobby pin into Nail Lacquer in Union Jack Black. Position the bobby pin over the nail and blow through the middle to create a splatter effect on each nail.
  3. With a new bobby pin, repeat the process with Nail Lacquer in Easy Peasy (NEW – launching in April ‘16) on various nails on both hands.
  4. Lastly, apply one coat of Hardwear P.D. Quick Topcoat to create a high-shine finish.

How fabulous is that! To shop everything you need to re-create butter LONDON’s nail art look on the Nicole Miller spring/summer 2016 runway, please scroll through the photos below and click on a photo for more information.
