I don’t often wear mini dresses. In fact, I shy away from hemlines above my knee. I like to portray a certain sense of modesty when I dress; and hemlines above the knee are a bit on the racy side for me. Another reason I shy away from high hemlines, is the way my legs look! I feel like my legs are out of shape, not tan, and really should be covered up. So why did I choose this dress you ask? Let’s discuss.

Raise your hand if you remember “The Brady Bunch.” It was one of my favorite re-runs when I was a kid. I loved the early ’70’s, late 60’s styles, and the funny situations the kids always got into; sometimes the parents too! And Alice! Oh she was fabulous. That household would have fallen apart with out her!

The girls from “The Brady Bunch” always wore mini dresses, mini skirt, or flared pants. With the 1970s, and 1960s inspiration designers have favored over the past several seasons, many of the styles remind me of the funny episodes I enjoyed as a kid from the show. But that’s not all!

Last year, my Mother remarried. My Father passed away when I was a baby, so for my entire life, it was always my Mom and me! We were a team; us against the world! Then, in my adult life, when everything seemed set for life, my Mom shakes it all up and marries a man with four adult kids my age. FOUR KIDS! I grew up an only child, now there are other kids around? Um . . kay.

Not that I am complaining, I always dreamed about having a sibling. It was quite lonely being an only child. I also grew up in an neighborhood that did not have a lot of kids, so I always had to make plans to see my friends. Having siblings, would have been a ton of fun. I watch my kids play together, and it is the most beautiful thing in the world.

Now that my family has turned into a real-life Brady Bunch, wearing a style or two which remind me of the show, seems fitting. I chose to wear this dress, not as a move towards higher hemlines in my wardrobe, but as a one-off to remind me of how happy the kids on “The Brady Bunch” were, and how happy we can all be when we get used to our new-found Brady Bunch lives.

Now about those legs which need to hit the gym, and that un-tan . . . um, yeah. Got some work to do before summer!

XOXO

Cathy

Floral maxi dress for spring

Spring is here! Yay! The spring season is my favorite time of year to wear maxi skirts, maxi dresses, and anything flowing! So when I spotted this flowing, red floral maxi dress for spring, I knew it had to be in my wardrobe!

I love this little dress. Not only was it under $100, it can be worn casually, or dressed up for a luncheon, a daytime wedding (as a guest of course), or worn to a graduation. It is the perfect floral maxi dress for spring!

If you are looking for a versatile floral  maxi dress for spring, this is a great option! If you decide to purchase this maxi dress, keep in mind the flutter sleeves are wide so you need a thin tank top or camisole underneath to keep things modest. The dress also runs on the smaller size, so if you are between sizes, go up. I usually wear a 6 or 8 depending upon the cut of a dress, so I went with the medium in this dress, and it fit perfectly.

Since platform shoes are making a resurgence, and maxi dresses tend to be on the long side for my 5’4″ frame, I knew I needed a pair of 1970s inspired platforms for the spring and summer seasons. When I saw these cool beige platforms by Seychelles I was thrilled! They work perfectly with my red floral maxi dress, and they look amazing with this season’s cropped jeans, cropped pants, wide leg pants, flares, and maxi skirts. Plus, they were under $120. How fabulous is that!

If you are looking for a comfortable pair of platforms which are easy to walk in, then this is the pair for you. There is a full size run in stock as of today online here; and they also come in a fun floral print. Since the price is right, I am thinking of adding the floral pair to my wardrobe. Love!

One of my favorite things to wear when the weather starts to warm up is a maxi skirt, or dress! Every spring season, I look for a fabulous maxi dress to add to my wardrobe. This fun, maxi wrap dress from Shabby Apple fit the bill for spring 2016!

With the 1970s trend in full swing for spring, this Shabby Apply maxi wrap dress fits into the trend perfectly. Wrap dresses are very ’70s, and this print has a vintage flair to it. I love how this geometric print fits in perfectly with the architectural/geometric trend we saw on the spring 2016 runways in New York. I feel so runway-ready in this dress!

Since the colors, and the pattern, stand on their own, I decided to go understated with my accessories. These Kendra Scott earrings, and matching necklace, from the spring 2016 collection have a geometric look, and blend in with the dress. They are great for wearing with this Shabby Apple maxi wrap dress, and for everyday wear!

This Shabby Apple maxi wrap dress was a little bit on the long side for my 5’4″ frame, so I instantly knew I would pair it with my favorite, old stand-by pair of Prada platform sandals. They are from the 2009 runway collection, and are a great investment pair of black shoes. I love how they work with the dress. For a cute pair of black platform sandals under $100, please click here.

I am looking forward to wearing my new Shabby Apple maxi wrap dress this spring; and also in the summer months! It is a great dress for daytime; and it can be dressed up, or down, depending upon which handbag, or shoes, are paired with it. I love versatility!

If you are ordering the Shabby Apply maxi wrap dress online, look at the sizing carefully. I normally wear a 6 or 8, so in this dress I got an 8. The 8 is a little bit big, I think a 6 would have been better. So if you are between sizes like me, go with the smaller size. If you are always a straight size, then go with your true size.

This is my first piece from Shabby Apple and I love it! I am looking forward to adding more Shabby Apple pieces to my wardrobe in the future. You can find this dress and more at ShabbyApple.com
