Spring 2012 beauty trends: Pastel powders versus the dark lip

Beauty is taking on a natural yet colorful look for the warm, spring 2012 season. Colorful, yet pastel shades of green, orange and more are taking over the faces of Fashionistas everywhere and adding a soft, understated pop of color to an otherwise natural, glowing face. There is also one other dominant beauty trend for the new, warm weather season; the dark lip.

Colorful yet natural: Eyes, cheeks and lips are being shown with natural and light applications of pastel hues; giving color a new life in the beauty world. Chanel is showing shades of creamy orange for spring 2012 in the form of soft eye shadow and sheer lipsticks which add the slightest sheen of color in the quietest of ways. Many designers are showing pale shades of orange, red, pink and even green.

Understated smoky eye: Another look from the runways has been to combine a soft smoky eye with either sheer, barely detectable lip stick or a dark, almost vamp lip which is suitable for evening occasions.

The dark lip: Dark lips graced runways in Milan, New York and London and were dramatic when shown with summery whites and pale neutrals. This look was often paired with light eye makeup, or soft smoky eyes.

Pastel and soft colors for spring work perfectly with all of spring’s trends; making it easy to invest in a small amount of make-up and wear it with everything. Pastel eyeshadows, blushes and sheer lipsticks are the perfect way to not overpower bright and bold colors this spring, while also staying soft when worn with pastels. A dark lip will instantly spice up the look for heading out into the night.

The biggest challenge is finding the perfect hue for your overall wardrobe and that matches your skin-tone. Look for shades of soft green, orange and pink. And remember, if the colors of the season look funny on your skin, don’t be a fashion victim. Seek out neutrals shades and wait for the new colors of summer.

Spring 2012 nail polish trends: the IT Chanel shade is in

Move over Chanel Peridot and Rouge Carat, Chanel’s spring 2012 nail polish colors have hit store shelves and just like every season, the three new shades, April, May and June are flying off of store shelves. While we revealed April, May and June by Chanel earlier in the season, the “IT” color of spring 2012 has been identified and it is sure to send Fashionistas to the nearest beauty counter-stat!

The “IT” color of spring 2012 is Chanel’s June. The creamy, vivid peach color is a softer yet saturated shade of orange; reminiscent of an orange creamsicle. With Pantone’s Tangerine Tango being the “IT” color of 2012, it is only natural that Fashionistas would flock to Chanel June for their nail color. The color offers a creamy yet bright shade which blends well with spring 2012’s overall color palette of Tangerine, bright yellow, pink, cobalt blue, apple green and purple; while working with Paris’s answer to a spring color palette which is a mix of pastels.

Chanel June is an interesting shade of creamy orange. When the color is set against shade of pink, it takes on a pinkish-orange tone which appears to take on a dark pastel shade. When worn with orange, Chanel June takes on a more orange-tone hue which appears slightly brighter than pastel and ventures into brighter pastures. June by Chanel is definitely a versatile shade of orange which can be worn easily with spring 2012’s bright colors, pastels, floral prints and contemporary prints; basically the color works with all trends! Love that!

The second most sought after shade from Chanel’s spring 2012 nail polish collection is April. Chanel’s April is a shade of red which seems as if it has a combination of fuchsia and purple infused into the polish. The cool shade of red blends well with spring 2012’s color palette; except when worn with shades of orange, which it slightly clashes with.

Lastly, if red and orange are not your thing, May is a cool shade of pink which works well with spring’s color trends and offer s feminine and sweet color choice.

So the verdict is in. To have the ultimate, up-to-the-minute shade of nail polish gracing your fingertips, run, don’t walk to the nearest Chanel Boutique, Neiman  Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom or Macy’s and pick up a bottle of Chanel April nail polish for spring 2012. To achieve the ultimate color saturation, we recommend using three coats.

Happy shopping, and stay fabulous

Sojourn Beauty products are a Hollywood and Fashionista favorite

Sojourn Beauty has a professional line of hair-care products which are all the rage with the Hollywood set. Since celebrities get paid to look fabulous, it is only natural that the rest of us look to see which beauty products they are using to keep their star shining. When we learned that Sojourn Beauty products are not only used by celebrities at home, but also used on set for films and shows such as Pan Am, Happy Ending, Whitney, Vampire Diaries and One Tree Hill, we knew we had to try the collection.

We decided to test out the “Smooth” hair care collection by Sojourn since here in the Bay Area we can easily fall victim to foggy weather which makes our hair frizzy and fluff in the wrong places. After using the shampoo and conditioner for four days straight, our hair was manageable and frizzy-free; love it!

Since the shampoo and conditioner alone were able to smooth our hair, we dedicated to try out the “Serum Smooth” while blow drying our hair. Once again, smooth and shiny results! The leave-in detangler also worked like a charm when we tried it. We tested the detangler on fine, blond hair that tangles and frizzes one minute after being combed. Again, we were impressed! Her hair was tangle free and it did not frizzy back up; as it normally does on a daily basis.

The verdict is in! Five out of five stars for Sojourn Beauty’s Smooth collection. The hair care line is pH balanced with a range of 4.5-5.5 which is based on positive hair chemistry. Sojourn Beauty is also eco-conscious since the packaging is 100% biodegradable, there are no artificial colors and it is sulfate-free, gluten-free, formaldehyde-free, paraben-free and contains Keratin Cashmere protein. Fabulous!
