winter 2014

The pointed toe reigns supreme for fall 2013

Platforms are out; flat soled pointed toes are in. It is a fact. Fall 2013 is all about the pointed toe pump and platforms have no place in the fall season. Pointed toes are being shown everywhere from flats to pumps to even boots! Almond toes, round toes and square toes may grace a few sparse store shelves, but that does not mean they should walk the street.

The pointed toe is everywhere for fall 2013. This classic toe style is being shown on every runway and street trend imaginable for the fall 2013 season. Designers are showing pointed toes in classic, solid colors and animal prints. In addition to solids and prints, designers have added on to their pointed toe flats, pumps and boots with studs, crystals, spikes, zippers and chains. Pointed toe pumps, flats and boots are also being shown color blocked; a continuing trend from the runway for fall 2013.

If you do not already own a pair of pointed toe pumps, flats or boots; there is one style you should invest in for the fall 2013 season. The ultimate investment shoe for fall 2013 is the black, pointed toe pump. Since pointed toes and classic, ladylike pumps are projected into 2014, a classic black pair will give you your money’s worth and be the pair of shoes you find yourself reaching for every morning. I recommend this pair.

When it comes to pointed toe flats, these are the ultimate flat shoe style for the fall 2013 season. One thing to note with pointed toe flats, they are difficult to walk in! You may find yourself kicking up your foot a little more than normal when you are walking in pointed toe flats to overcompensate for the pointed toe.

Do not fall fashion victim! Pointed toe flats can be an easy way to fall prey to fashion. If you are like me and cannot walk in pointed toe flats, skip them! A classic pair of ballet flats will get you through the season and keep your feet happy. When shopping for pointed toe pumps and boots, try on a half size up. This will give you more room in the toe and a comfortable fit which will allow you to wear pointy toes all day long. Love that!

I found a few fabulous pointed toe flats, pumps and boots for fall 2013 from around the web and assembled them into this article. Hope you love them! Happy shopping, and stay fabulous

Top ten trends from the fall 2013 runways

New York, Paris, Milan and London have sent their last models down the fashion week runways for the fall/winter 2013/2014 season. Now that the four most important fashion weeks have come to an end, we are left with a flurry of new and continuing trends to look forward to, and covet, for the upcoming cool weather season.

Here are the top ten trends from the runways to watch for in fall 2013. Let’s see if they make it to the street!

1)      The small handbag: Gone are the days of the oversized handbag. Small shoulder bags, daytime clutches, evening clutches and satchels are hot for fall.

2)      Soft fabrics: Structured silhouettes made from soft fabrications such as velvet, cozy knits and silks are on trend for fall. Ditch the starch; it’s all about movement this season.

3)      Structured handbags: Although fabric is soft and flowing, handbags are stiffer than stiff. Look for this contrast when assembling your outfits. A structured handbag with a soft, flowing outfit is hot off the runway.

4)      The flat or “single-sole” shoe: Bye-bye platforms! Although a handful of designers are sticking to the stripper pump mantra, platforms are out. Look for flat, single soled shoes with a 1”-3” heel. Your feet will thank you and you will look fashion-forward. Love that!

5)      Black is the new black: No mystery here, black is back and no color on Earth can replace it.

6)      Below-the-knee: Ah, the ever-changing hemline! For fall 2013, look for hemlines which are below the knee. Hoochie dresses are out. Lady-like is in.

7)      Prints: This trend is continuing! Look for dresses, jeans, denim and suiting with prints.

8)      Single breasted coats and jackets: Fall 2013 is all about one row of buttons. Look for single breasted coats and jackets.

9)      Layers: Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are accustomed to dressing in layers. After all, who knows when the fog will roll in (or out) and surprise us! Apparently the rest of the world got the memo, layers are in. Thankfully we already know how to rock this trend. Please clap for the Bay Area.

10)   Autumn hues: Can it be? Yes it can! Traditional fall colors are hot for the autumn season! When has this happened in recent history?! Look for rich shades of burgundy, dark mustard, olive green, forest green, (any green), navy, dark blue, (any blue), black with white, black with black, chocolate brown, dark brown hues, deep purples and orange.

11)   Leather: OK, we couldn’t keep it to ten trends, so here is a bonus trend! Leather is still hot. Look for skirts, pants, jackets, coats, shirts and more in both real and faux leather.

There you have it! The top ten trends (ahem-eleven) from New York, Milan, Paris and London. Now, it should be interesting to see which of these trends make it from the runways, to store shelves, and then to the streets! Only time will tell

How to get the Dolce & Gabbana beauty look from the fall 2013 runway at home

Dolce & Gabbana sent their fall/winter 2013/2014 collection down the Milan Fashion Week runway on February 24, 2013 and gave Fashionistas everywhere something to covet for the upcoming cool weather season. The designing duo took their inspiration from the mosaic of Monreale which was brought to life by Creative Advisor Pat McGrath.

To create the perfect beauty look which complimented the apparel and accessories on the runway, Pat McGrath combined nude tones with dark, provocative accents which resulted in a stunning beauty look for Dolce & Gabbana’s collection.

Here is how to get the look:

The Face

Flawless Base: Apply a mixture of Perfect Luminous and Perfect Matte Liquid Foundations using a softFoundation Brush. Use a small amount of both foundations and apply to the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Blend from the central point of the face outward until the foundations are blended seamlessly from the hairline to the jaw.

Conceal: To seal the flawless base, use the Perfect Matte Concealer which will add extra coverage and achieve an illuminated, natural look.

Perfect it!: To finish the face, apply Powder Foundation focusing on the forehead.

The Eyes:

Eye shadow: Start with applying Dolce & Gabbana eye shadow in Desert.

Line the eyes: Line the eyes with Black eyeliner for a deep, mysterious look. For the runway, more depth was added to the eyes with the application of Black Intense glam liner on top of the lash line.

Eyelashes: For the full eyelash look on the runway, use two layers of Intense Eyes mascara

Lips:

To recreate the lips from the Dolce & Gabbana runway, start with the lipliner in Ruby and them combine both the Ultra and Amethyst lipsticks for the perfect, sophisticated “straight-from-the-Milan-runway” look.

Nails:

Dolce & Gabbana showed neutral nails on the Milan Fashion Week runway for fall 2013 with the use of theirNude nail polish.

*Special THANK YOU to Dolce & Gabbana for providing these fabulous, hot-from-the-Milan-runway beauty tips. Now we can all look like we walked straight off the Milan runway and onto city streets! Love that!
