Happy National Nail Polish Day 2018! Since nail polish is one of my favorite things on earth, National Nail Polish Day has to be one of my favorite national days of the year!
I love the idea of being able to celebrate nail polish! It’s such an easy way to fit into the latest trends without spending a ton of money. Nail polish also helps make you look put together when you are just schlepping around in yoga pants. It also always fits! Just like handbags and shoes; if you yo-yo in weight like me, you don’t have to worry about nail polish, handbags, or shoes not fitting-they always fit! Love that!
In honor of National Nail Polish Day, I thought I would share with you my favorite nail colors du jour. Since it is summer season in nail polish land, these colors are almost all summer shades. If course, I am sharing a few others too!
Raise your hand if you remember wearing everything rainbow as a kid? My hand is so far up! When I was little, rainbows were everywhere. I had a rainbow tee-shirt I used to wear all the time with blue track shorts. I remember one of my teachers had sandals which resembled modern-day Tevo’s. They had two fabric straps with a rainbow pattern. All of the kids in our class loved her shoes and always wanted to wear them, after all, rainbows were all the rage!
There is something inherently 1970s about rainbows. They remind me of long, straight hair and acoustic guitar. Rainbows bring me back to a time when hippies were everywhere, and colors were celebrated. Of course, I did grow up in Marin, so there may have been a disproportionate amount of hippies running around. haha
Rainbows also evoke a feeling of life before wireless phones, life before remote controls, life before power windows in the car, life before cell phone, and life before wireless everything. They are quite nostalgic!
Back when rainbows were in style, if the phone rang, we had to run to it because there wasn’t an answering machine. If you were tired, you still had to stand if you answered the phone in the kitchen because there wasn’t any place to sit down, and the phone was hard wired into the wall. Wireless phones did not exist!
We only had twelve television stations with cable. That’s right, only twelve! If you wanted to change the channel, you had to stand up and turn the dial. That’s right, turn the dial! There weren’t any buttons, only two dials; one for the stations and one for UHF. The main dial went up to thirteen, you know, in case the powers that be added a station past twelve. Since we had cable, we never used the UHF dial. I’m not sure what it did, but I do know you needed rabbit ears to use it. Pop quiz; do you know what rabbit ears are?
On the car door, inside the car, there was a crank for opening and closing the windows. There was a gas crisis when I was in pre-school, so we had to wait in line to get gas for the car; and sometimes the gas stations ran out of gas, which meant you were basically out of luck-and gas!
There was a huge drought, and I still remember the huge pipe that went across the Richmond-San Rafael bridge. It carried water over the bay to help out the East Bay which was shorter on water then we were. Water rationing was so severe, we ate off paper plates and used paper cups to drink. We had an insert in the bathtub so that baths used less water. It was crazier then any drought the bay area has had since!
In the days of rainbow fashion, everyone drove a really big car. In fact, almost all the moms drove a giant station wagon with wooden side panels. My mom was an outlier with her BMW 320i. It was tiny in comparison, and we got a little bit of teasing for not driving an American car. Oh yes, even driving Basic Marin Wheels at that time was not the norm; like it is now in Marin! Haha
So while the world was not automatic, and American cars were king, we were all running around wearing rainbows. Fast forward to modern day, and I have to search for an American car on the road; but I see rainbows everywhere! How can you not?! Everyone has some form of rainbow on their person for summer 2018. Whether it’s rainbow striped dresses, an article of clothing, a pair of shoes, a handbag, or a piece of jewelry; rainbows are dominating the landscape. It’s the 1970s trend that has not seen daylight since, well, the 1970s! Welcome back!
I really want to wear the rainbow trend this season. The only hesitation I have is that rainbows are a memory for me. They bring me back to a simpler time. Rainbows are a favorite childhood sartorial memory for me, so to think of wearing them again seems strange, almost costume-like to me. While I would normally think this is a trend to start small on, I am leaning towards getting a skirt or dress with rainbow stripes for the summer season. Why not go all in?

Last week, I was invited to attend an event hosted by Brahmin at the Presidio Social Club. So what do you wear to a handbag event in San Francisco? A handbag made by Brahmin of course! You can see my bag of the night placed carefully on the passenger seat of my car above. I wore my favorite denim dress and brought a pale grey pashmina with me just in case the fog showed up and froze me to death.
My outfit turned out to be perfect because the fog never came in! Imagine that?! The event started with a cocktail hour outside on the back patio of the Presidio Social Club. The deck was so pretty! I wish I took more pictures, but I was having so much fun I forgot to snap photos!
The restaurant passed appetizers, which were amazing, and I met a few new bloggers, a writer for the style section of The Chronicle, and the Brahmin team. Everyone was so nice, and so much fun to talk to!
The amazing bartender pictured above gave a drink demonstration, and then the restaurant passed around mini-drinks for us to taste. I tried to stay away from the mixed drinks since I don’t drink very much, and I knew I would be driving back to the south bay later that evening; but they looked good!
The table settings were so cute, and there were place cards at all of the seats. I was seated close to a few of my blogger friends, so that worked out well! The ladies I met on the patio were at a different table, but I am so glad I got to meet them at the beginning of the night, I definitely made some new friends. I met a few new ladies at my table too, so it was a great opportunity to meet new people.
The Presidio Social Club prides itself on farm to table cuisine. The chef has his own farm and much of the food raised and grown on it is served at the restaurant. I enjoyed a vegan soup to start, followed by an amazing swordfish dish. The dessert was fabulous too. If you are ever in the city, definitely enjoy a meal at the Presidio Social Club, the food is to-die-for! Plus, they have a parking lot! That’s golden for us suburbanites coming into the city with our cars!
My seat was on the corner of the table, so sometimes it was hard to hear people talking further down the table. That’s OK though, because this was the view from my seat. Do you see that black satchel? It is now number one on my wish list. I was staring at it all night long; and it is so chic and beautiful in person. I need one in my life! I wish this was a better photo so you could really see how beautiful it was. Alas, I only had my iPhone that night, so my photos are not as good as they could be.
Now, onto the summer 2018 collection by Brahmin! The collection is beautiful, hands-down beautiful. The brown hue in the collection is rich, and will easily flow from summer into fall. It is also dark enough to be worn in lieu of black. I would love to get my hands on a bag from the collection in brown! For summer, Brahmin also has on-trend styles which include a belt bag, a small backpack which is great for travel, various tote bags which will work for the office, the beach, or day to day summer life. The famous circle bag, known as the Lane Melbourne, is also being shown in a few new colors for the summer season. There are also basketweave leathers, and smooth leathers which compliment the predominately stamped croc collection. All of the summer fabrications are very pretty in person. You will love it!
You can view the entire summer 2018 collection online here. I curated my favorites from the Brahmin summer 2018 collection and placed them in the shopping widget below for you to see. Which bag is your favorite?
Thanks for stopping by!
