Have you ever wondered how to wear nautical stripes in the fall? Or perhaps, during any season? When I first spotted this dress from eShakti, I instantly fell in love! My only concern was that it had nautical stripes! How could I rock this in the fall? Would my accessories play well with it? As soon as I started playing around with my fall accessories, I realized you can wear nautical stripes any time of year! They don’t need espadrilles or boat shoes, this classic look can be paired with fall colors, and fabrications. Love that!

I changed the neckline to a v-neck, picked out flattering sleeves, left the length; and voila! I ended up with a really flattering, nautical stripes dress which transcends seasons.

I am a petite on the bottom, and regular size on top. This makes dresses too long, or jumpsuits ill-fitting. With eShakti, I can shorten the hem if I need to, or adjust a full piece. Love that!

The cooler weather is finally starting to arrive! This means we all need a fabulous winter coat! When I shop for my winter coat, I always look for something which is both fabulous and classic. My coat needs to integrate seamlessly into my wardrobe without clashing. Nothing is more frustrating then reaching for a coat on a cold winter day, and it looks horrible with your outfit!

Last minute pirate costume for Halloween

It’s entirely possible my kids really loved the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie this summer. So much so, that they decided our whole family would dress up as pirates for Halloween; except for my teenager who is going to be a Pusheen.

This is the first time we have all coordinated our costumes; minus my teenager. It’s been really fun putting pirate costumes together, so much so that I had to make a last minute pirate costume for myself! I went to Affordable Treasures in Los Gatos and picked up this hat, these pants, and this sword. If you’re interested in dressing as a last minute pirate too, I linked to the pants above, and a similar sword, and similar hat.

A pirate costume is really easy to make. You can use any black or stripe pants you might already own, black boots, a black tee (which I’m sure you own), gold hoops earrings (if you don’t own a pair-grab this pair, they are so lightweight and amazing!), and a black vest. My vest is from last year but I managed to find it online here. The only “big ticket” item you need to complete the look is that hat. The sword is really inexpensive.

My cute little nine-year-old son took these photos. He did a pretty good job! Instead of “say cheese!” he kept saying “say arrrrrrrrrh!” while he was snapping the photos. I think you can see the amusement in my face. haha
