The platform versus the flat sole: which will take over next year?

As designers send their fall collections down the runways for fall 2012, shoe fans everywhere are watching the sole of every pump and bootie that walks the catwalk. The flat sole is appearing to be dominating half of the runways, while the platform dominates the other half. Which one is it?

Platforms crept into style over the past five years, and just when forecasters thoughts the platform had run its’ course back in 2010, the style came back stronger, higher and more popular than before. The flat soled pumps which graced the fall 2009 and spring 2010 runways barely appeared on store shelves and women flocked to the highest platforms they could balance and shuffle down the street in.

The outcome for the fall 2010 runways? The platform dominated; and has been doing so ever since. What is it about the platform that is so alluring? Is it the added height? Perhaps platforms allow for a more artistic shoe? Is there a sense of strength from the added height off the ground? Perhaps. . .

It will be interesting to see what store buyers stock their shelves with this summer when fall 2012 begins to arrive at retailers worldwide. And when the flat soled pump is displayed prominently alongside a bigger than life platform pump, which one will the consumer reach for? Which one will you reach for?

Spring pumps to fall into

Now that Pantone has released the official color report for fall 2012, and the autumn runways are underway, Fashionistas can start making educated buying decisions when it comes to items that can be worn now and into the fall season. One of the biggest spring trends is the solid colored pump. The solid colored pump is an easy way to incorporate fall colors into a spring wardrobe since the solid colored pump trend is continuing into fall 2012.

Since color is an important trend, when shopping for spring pumps it is important to make wise color choices. By purchasing colors for spring which are part of the fall color palette, a savvy-shopper can save money on shoes by not having to purchase new pumps for the fall season! Love it!

We love the fall color palette which contains many shades that can be found on store shelves this season. Our favorite colors to invest in for the spring and fall seasons? We love bright blue, green, rose and Tangerine. The perfect neutral is the pale grey as it plays well with spring’s bright colors, blends easily with pastels and is one of the hottest neutral hues on the fall 2012 runways. Love that!

We found pumps in every one of Pantone’s fall color palette from the current spring collections around the web and assembled them into the Polyvore set below. Hope you love it! Happy shopping and stay fabulous

Bright pumps for spring 2012

The pump is one of the most classic and flattering shoes on the market for women. The high heel elevates us and adds height while giving the appearance of a slimmer figure; love that! Every season designers show versions of the pump, adding to the fact that the shoe style is a classic. For spring 2012 the pump gets bright and is shown with both a pointed toe and round. In addition to going bright this spring, pumps are being shown with both flat soles and platforms; giving consumers a wide variety of heights to choose from.

While many shoe styles this season are complicated and artsy, the pump is being shown in either solid colors or color blocking. The solid colored pump is proving to be the most popular among consumers as the style flies off store shelves in a variety of hues. Solid colored pumps are being shown in the color of the season, orange, as well as bright pink, cobalt blue, bright green, canary yellow and even in neon hues.

One of the fabulous things about the solid colored bright pump is that it is an easy way to update one’s wardrobe. Instead of buying a wide variety of clothing in bright colors for spring, a Fashionista can easily add a pair of bright pumps to an otherwise neutral ensemble and voila! She is instantly on-trend for spring with a bright and bold color.

Thankfully there are no rules when it comes to heel height or sole. Bright pumps are hot in two inch heels as well as five inch. Platforms and flat soles are the choice of the Fashionista, and there is no wrong answer. Our feet are thankful for this trend J
