I love soft, cotton maxi dresses in the warm summer months. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we have been experiencing a heat wave which is taking temperatures up into the 90’s. Since those are normally July temperatures, I have been pulling out my summer wardrobe and enjoying the heat!

This dress by Soft Joie is comfortable and airy; perfect for a hot summer day. I also envision wearing it to the beach as a swimsuit cover-up; or even a summer pool party!

What are your favorite types of clothing for hot weather?

The past couple of weeks here in the San Francisco Bay Area have been beautiful. Temperatures have been in the high 60’s and low 70’s; which is extremely unusual for January. Unfortunately, with beautiful spring-like weather in January there is a dark side. The trees are confused so we are starting to see cherry blossoms, plum blossoms and Magnolias. In addition to confused vegetation, we have had absolutely no rain for months! The last time the San Francisco Bay Area endured this type of weather was 1977-1979. At that time we experienced a severe drought which required residents to ration their water use, in some cases, using extreme measures to do so.

I was a very small child in the late 1970’s and all I remember about the drought was eating off of paper plates and drinking from paper cups. There was a huge pipe on the Richmond- San Rafael bridge which carried water across the bay and I used to marvel at its’ huge size when we crossed the bridge. I remember a lot of dead lawns and an increase in popularity of the “rock garden.” Do you remember rock garden’s? They were a collection of different colors of rocks arranged in a pattern separated by thin wood panels in people’s front yards. They remained in place throughout the 1980’s until people finally realized they were terrible to look at and replaced them with plants.

Due to the current drought, I am afraid what we experienced in the late 1970’s will soon be reality again here in the Bay Area. In the meantime, the only thing we can do is conserve water and enjoy the sunshine! That being said, I have been boxing up my boots and heavy clothing, moving them to the back of the closet, and bringing out my spring wardrobe! Why not!? If there are cherry blossoms everywhere, I might as well dress for spring!

These new pumps from Chelsea Paris are soft and extremely comfortable. I cannot wait to pair them with other looks throughout the spring season. Are you experiencing unusual weather where you live too?

Graphic prints for fall 2013

graphic prints fall 2013 by bayareafashionista on Polyvore

Graphic prints were huge on the fall/winter 2013 runways in New York, Paris, Milan and London. Although many of the graphic prints favored by designers were shown in black/white, there was also an array of colored prints on the runways which are spicing up the streets this autumn season.

Graphic print are being shown on everything imaginable including dresses, tops, pants, skirts and even jackets. As the color blocking trend fades into the background, graphic prints are rising up to take center stage in the trend arena. These intricate prints also dominated the runways for  spring/summer 2014. in New York, Paris, Milan and London. This is a trend on the upswing!

For the fall 2013 season, look to add at least one graphic print to your wardrobe. If you are feeling bold, try a dress and make the trend the focal point of your ensemble. If you are feeling a little shy about this “notice me” trend, try pairing a scarf with an all-black outfit for a chic and understated version of the look.

Personally I love this trend on dresses and skirts. I am definitely on the hunt for the perfect graphic print dress! What do you think of this trend? How do you plan to wear it? Are you already rockin’ it?

I found a few fabulous graphic print pieces around the web and assembled them into the shopping widget below. Hope you love them! Happy shopping, and stay fabulous 😉
