SFO Museum has a new exhibit in B Gates in the American Airlines terminal! If you love opera, this is an amazing opportunity to see a few SF Opera costumes up close and personal. The intricate details on the costumes is indescribable; and these photos do not do them justice. You must see them in person. I mean, what better excuse do you need to plan a vacation?
We all arrive at the airport so early these days, especially if we anticipate a long wait at TSA. It is so nice to know the SFO Museum has displays around the airport that we can enjoy, and often learn from, while we wait for our flight. I mean, why sit at the gate when you are about to sit on a plane for several hours? The walking is nice!
Whether or not you love opera, you will appreciate the beautiful details on the costumes, as well as the historical lesson about the San Francisco Opera! If you are visiting San Francisco, be sure to attend a SF Opera performance, you will enjoy it!

How beautiful are these textiles?! I am in love! A few weeks ago, I flew in and out of SFO. If you have ever flown in and out of SFO, you may already know that our airport has an amazing museum program where they rotate special exhibits throughout the terminals. I have to admit, I normally walk past the majority of the exhibits when I am at the airport. I tend to focus on getting to my gate, or if I am arriving, I focus on getting to my ride or baggage claim. This last time was different.
Instead of traveling with my entire family, or alone for business, I was only with my now college-age daughter. We arrived early for our red eye flight, so my eyes began to wander as we walked towards our gate. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I spotted the beautiful textiles on display in the SFO Museum “From Pineapple to Pina” exhibit. Wow! This was in an airport? What???
I quickly gravitated towards the exhibit, much to the confusion of my daughter. She wasn’t aware of the SFO Museum since I usually walked right past it. I am so glad we stopped this time! The textiles are absolutely amazing. Can you believe these delicate and intricate fabrics are handmade and woven out of pineapple leaves thread? It really is mind-blowing.
Next time you take a trip through SFO, arrive a little bit early and give yourself time to enjoy the exhibits throughout the airport. You never know what magical exhibit you might find! You can learn more about the SFO Museum and this exhibit at SFOMuseum.org.
Art meets tech at the new Beyond Van Gogh, immersive experience in San Jose! I was thrilled when Beyond Van Gogh invited me to attend their press preview party last Thursday; one day before the event’s grand opening. It was amazing to be able to view the new exhibit, and to take photos, in order to share the event with you. If you are local, I hope you want to go!
I don’t want to give away too much information, because then you won’t be surprised when you attend the event. So, I will give you a brief overview!
The “Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” is currently being held at the San Jose Convention Center in downtown San Jose. It’s an amazing walk-through and experience you won’t want to miss! The exhibit begins with an educational walk-through which details Van Gogh’s life and experiences. This is an important, educational moment in the exhibit, so make sure you read it all!
After reading about Van Gogh’s life, inspiration, and experiences, you will be guided into an immersive room which walks you through his paintings and life works. His artwork is grouped by theme, and using technology, the paintings fade in and out, and immerse you inside of them! It really is quite an amazing experience!
My husband and I chose to stand, pause, and wander through the area. If you prefer to sit, there are benches around the room, and some attendees sat on the ground and really felt themselves immersed into the art. This truly is an incredible fusion of art and tech. My husband even commented that he would love to see other artists works’ in this way. I agree!
It is also a great way to introduce Van Gogh to children, who may otherwise bore at a traditional museum. The immersive experience is fun for kids; as we witnessed several children enjoying themselves during the event. I immediately regretted not bringing my kids. This is a great exhibit for families!
Well, I don’t want to give away too much. I would love for you to attend “Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” yourself! The event starts Friday, September 24, 2021 and runs through November 14, 2021. They have daytime and evenings hours, so you can choose if you want to do a family outing, or date night! Love that!
