The rise of the flat sole

Over the course of 2011 and 2012, we have discussed the possible demise of the platform sole. As fashion moves into 2013, designers and Fashionista’s on the street have rediscovered the flat sole shoe and have started to push their platforms towards the back of the closet. This is not to say that the platform is not relevant; it still has its’ place in fashion. The platform is just slowly fading and starting to hang out in the shadow of the new “IT” shoe in town; the flat sole.

Shoes have been reaching for new heights over the past several years and designers have been having fun being creative with platform soles. As garments begin to be more lighthearted, and consumers begin to tire of the sky-high platform, the sole of the shoe has become more understated; as not to compete with the rise of “anything-but-understated” apparel.

Prints, neon hues and bright colors are hot right now, and will continue to reign supreme as we move in 2013. This being said, the last thing a properly dressed Fashionista wants to do is have her shoes compete with her dress. This brings us to the flat soled shoe. A pretty, pointed toe pump in a solid, bright color looks perfect and fresh for the spring 2013 season when paired with a beautiful, floral, A-line dress. Somehow the thought of a multi-colored platform shoe paired with a sweet floral frock does not seem proper; wouldn’t you agree?

This does not mean all platforms must be banished from our closets, it just means as we move into 2013, look for a balance of soles in your wardrobe and invest in flatter soles rather than sky-high heels. Carrie Bradshaw and her collection of Manolo Blahnik shoes will be proud J

Goodbye 2012 and to all of the trends we are happy to leave behind

Today is the last day of 2012, and as move into 2013, we can cheer and jump for joy because there are a few trends we are happy to say will be “so last year.” So let us take a few moments to say goodbye to the tired trends from 2012, and while we are at it, let us say hello to the new, fabulous trends we are looking forward to in 2013!

Bye-Bye 2012!

Platforms: The sky-high, ankle-breaking platform is over. While there may still be some on store shelves, and from a few designers who didn’t get the memo, tall platforms are done, kaput.

Orange: “Tangerine Tango” was the color of 2012, but this fruity hue has run its’ course. Leave orange for the fruit bowl. Buh-bye.

Gigantic Jewels: Big, over-the-top jewelry is so over. These big baubles do not work well with 2013’s prints. Move them to the back of the jewelry box. Done!

Fascinators: Our fascination with the British Royals’ taste for over-embellished headbands has faded. Store your fascinator for a future Halloween costume when you decide to dress up as a Royal wedding guest.

Hello 2013!

Flat-Soled shoes: The soles of the shoe have come back down to Earth. Now, we will not have to worry about breaking our ankles. Thank the Lord!

Pointed toe shoes: Pointed toe pumps, high heels and flats are HOT for 2013. If your shoes will not hurt someone when you kick them, they are not pointy enough. ‘Nuff said.

Studs: Rocker-Chic is continuing to be huge, and in 2013, designers have gone wild for studs. Look for them on garments, bracelets, shoes, handbags and more. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to rewind that AC/DC cassette tape before you give it back to your BFF

Prints: Prints and patterns, patterns and prints! Look for florals, ikat, stripes, checker boards, plaid, painterly designs and anything you can think of printed on fabric. Be a walking art piece.

Bright colors: Bright colors are still hot in 2013, so stay away from black and look for bright hues in shades of blue, green, yellow, pink and red. Don’t forget to pack your sunglasses, it is going to be a bright year.

Pastels: The yin to the bright color trends’ yang. Soft shades of blue, green, yellow, peach and pink are just right for 2013. This is the Paris look, so brush up on your French. D’accord!

Dainty Jewelry: Sweet charms, thin chains, small earrings and thin bracelets are all the rage in 2013. They can be stacked together for a personal look or worn alone to compliment, not compete with, 2013’s print trend. Kisses!
Have a Happy New Year, stay safe, and of course, stay fabulous

Hot street trend: the painted handbag

Painted handbags have peeked into style every few years over the past two decades. Designers such as Louis Vuitton and Fendi have presented painterly, or graffiti-inspired designs to consumers on handbags, shoes and even apparel in the past few years. For winter 2013, resort 2013 and spring 2013, the painted handbag has taken on a soft and artistic vibe making it popular on the street.

While hardly noticeable on the runway, the painted handbag has exploded on the streets of fashionables locales such as Paris, Milan, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. This edgy handbag style is proving to blend well with the current color trends, prints and patterns which are well-loved by Fashionistas everywhere.

The painted handbag tends to be small or medium in size. Fashion-savvy women are choosing painted handbags for 2013 in the form of clutches, shoulder bags and small satchels. We found a few painterly handbags from around the web and assembled them into this article. What do you think of this trend? Happy shopping, and stay fabulous
