Fall 2015 trends from the New York Fashion Week runways

The last model has walked off the runways in New York, leaving the fashion world with an entirely new set of trends to ponder for the upcoming fall/winter 2015/2016 season. The color palette has changed, hemlines have dipped, and vintage influences have crept into our future fall closets. Here are a few significant trends from the New York Fashion Week runways for fall 2015.

Fashion Trends

The dominant trends on the New York Fashion Week runways for fall 2015 were a nod to the school yard, and the 1970’s. Designers favored plaid, floral accents, midi and maxi skirt lengths, and wide leg trousers. Culottes made their back onto the runways after debuting for spring 2015; and jumpsuits also reappeared for the fall season. Jumpers with blouses underneath were a new look on the runways for fall; offering a fresh style for the cool weather season.

For evening occasions, look for full skirts, trains, lace details, and backless styles.

Handbags

The mini satchel, and the mini bag took a hiatus from the runways in New York for fall 2015. Designers opted for medium sized bags in neutral colors as well as matchy-matchy prints. Look for soft totes, structured medium satchels; black, black and more black.

Shoes

Gone are the days of the dainty shoe. Designers showed high heels booties in mixed media and color blocking. With 1970’s looks and menswear inspired ensembles on the runways, designers opted for heavy, industrial inspired shoes with lug soles, as well as classic Doc Martens.

Beauty

Blue nail polish is back! In addition to shades of medium and dark blue on the fingertips of models walking the catwalk in New York, designers showed nail hues in burgundy, beige, and dark hues. Also, big hair is a current street style trend which made its way onto the New York runway for fall 2015. Look for big hair, don’t care looks.

Accessory Details

With school-girl chic, and nods to the 1970’s on the runways for fall/winter 2015, designers showed details such as ties, suspenders, socks peeking out from loafers and boots; as well as gold-tone metals and accents.

Color Trends

Designers showed unexpected hues such as fuchsia and pastel pink. In addition to these feminines hues, many designers opted for traditional, dark autumnal hues in purple, teal, navy, mustard, and shades of brown.

For evening, designers showed black and red together with gold accents.

There you have it! It should be interesting to see which of these trends his the streets after walking the runways in New York. It will also be interesting to see which trends appear on the runways in London, Paris, and Milan for the fall 2015 season. Which trends do you like for fall 2015?

Spring 2015 wish list

Spring 2015 is on the horizon which means this is the perfect time to shop for the upcoming warm weather season! As styles shift towards a 1970’s vintage vibe, I find myself drawn towards accessories and make-up; perhaps because this is quickest way to update one’s wardrobe!

Since I already own flares and trouser jeans, I feel like my casual wardrobe can transition into the new season. What I really need are shoes, a handbag or two, and rose hued make-up! (Beauty spoiler: Rose scents and hues are hot for the spring season!) I also want to find a few knee length a-line skirts with a true 1970’s vintage look. I may also look for one of DVF’s famous wrap dresses to add to my wardrobe. After all, what screams 1970’s more than DVF’s iconic wrap dress!

Although the accessories on my wish list are not all a nod towards the 1970’s, they are on trend for the season and would work with my current wardrobe.

Also on my radar. Have you heard of Charlotte Tilsbury Beach Sticks, pictured above? They sound amazing. Charlotte Tilsbury’s Beach Sticks can be used on both your lips and cheeks. They offer a dewy, beach look. Definitely on my wish list! You can see a demonstration video here.

What is on your radar and wish list for the spring 2015 season?

One of the big handbag trends for the past several seasons has been the drawstring handbag. For spring 2015, designers have gone full steam ahead and created several versions of the drawstring handbag and bucket bag for the warm weather season. This is definitely the “IT” handbag style of the spring 2015 season; as well as the summer 2015 season.

Drawstring bags began to gain popularity when Mansur Gavriel introduced their simple version a few seasons ago. The drawstring bucket bag designed by Mansur Gavriel was moderately priced and came in a variety of colors with contrasting interiors. The handbag was so popular that it sold out within minutes of being introduced. This led to the current craze. As Fashionistas and handbag lovers everywhere went crazy trying to get their hands on a Mansur Gavriel bucket bag, other designers saw the trend and capitalized on it by introducing their own versions of this classic, casual handbag style.

Now that spring 2015 is here, designers and handbag brands have launched varieties of drawstring bags and buckets bags for the warm weather season. Drawstring bucket bags can be found in solid colors, vegan fabrications, bi-color styles and quilted. Designers are also showing drawstring bucket bags both in minimalist styles and embellished styles. There is definitely a style for everyone when it comes to bucket bags this season!

Since drawstring bags are casual in nature, this is an easy handbag trend to get behind for the spring 2015 season. You will find yourself reaching for this handbag almost everyday. Bucket bags are also roomy, which allows you carry everything you need, and more!

I found a few fabulous drawstring bags and buckets bags around the web and assembled them into the shopping widget below. I hope you love them ! Happy shopping, and stay fabulous 😉
